Default Wordpresss them 20/11 clean simple and can be made to look real nice.

Sometimes clean simple with less bells and whistles works best and the 20/11 is spot on.

it depends of course what sort of site you want to use it for.

    Kickin it on Amazon

is the only theme I use, it's great for creating websites, you can use it for clients sites and it has 40 odd child themes that come with the theme itself.

It's the most versitile theme I've seen for wordpress.

My favourite theme has to be FlexSqueeze because it is so easy to use. The latest version, v1.5, is absolutely awesome. It even has squeeze, sales pages, built into it. The best thing is you can get it to do almost anything you want without having to know CSS or PHP.

Depends. If I want a pre-designed theme, I like StudioPress themes. If I need to do some serious customization, Builder and Catalyst are good. These are generally my preferences, but I do sometimes use other themes as well. It all depends on purpose of site and what I need.

If you think Flexibility is good you should see what Ryan has done with FlexSqueeze. His latest version V1.5 has so many features it is unbelievable.

    Nobody picked Thesis? ....really?

It's by far the most ass-kickenest, easy-to-edit, versatile and functional theme I've ever used. You can make it look like virtually anything and the open hooks functionality means you don't need to mess with template files.

If you don't mind code, the Genesis Framework (Studiopress) rules. More hooks, more filters, and a very clean stable core. I can get more accomplished with less code and avoid the need for many plugins.

In the absence of studio press, my vote goes to either starting from scratch, or building off a simplistic vanillaish theme. I prefer themes that have been around the block with a fair share of revisions.

Twentyten, inLine, Coraline, Cutline, Toolbox, and Magazine Basic come to mind.

If I don't plan on customizing, then I probblay have no long-term plans for the site and I just search for whatever--and do that search as fast as I can.

There's also an update on that timthumb.php security flaw for Woo Themes here plus you can download the fixed timthumb.php if you don't use a Woo theme

I have to add my vote to the others who have recommended the "Weaver 2.2" theme (different from "2010 Weaver"... and NO, I'm not connected with the theme in any way. Although I do think it has a cool name!). This is an awesome theme for someone like me, who has little knowledge of CSS, php and most any other coding language.

This theme is point-and-click, super simple to use; very flexible and easy to customize. In fact, you can customize a lot of settings just by clicking checkboxes. It comes with 24 pre-made sub-themes. You can create additional widgets and put them anywhere you want them. The basic theme is free, but if you upgrade to the "plus" version, you get a lot more customization options including an accordion slider you can insert anywhere you want. The "plus" version also lets you easily float images and content over the header. I used to use Atahualpa because of all the customizations it offered. But I like Weaver 2.2 better because it is MUCH EASIER for me to tweak and get the look I want.

Personally, I like the Pagelines Pro DEV version them from Pagelines.com

Main reason: Drag and drop functionality, which makes is super easy to create so many different designs - even if you are a newbie.

The DEV version of the Pagelines Pro theme allows me to remove that annoying icon from the bottom of my blog. Any theme that requires it there, (even if you paid for the theme) is not worth my time or money.

It also saves me from having a purchase OptimizePress -- as Pagelines arrives with a splash page template, perfect for sales letters.

They have an outstanding forum support system that is amazing, for lack of a better term. If I have a snag in my design, I can browse through the thousands of responses over there and most times, answer my own question.

If I need additional help, it is a simple post away and about an hour wait for the answer. You just cannot beat it!

They have various levels of the theme to fit any budget.

    1. Pagelines FREE
    2. Pagelines Pro (extra versatility, but the icon remains, pointing to their web site)
    3. Pagelines Pro DEV (grants me the power to remove the icon and provides me with forum software to integrate into Wordpress and the theme.)

    I absolutely love it!
