What is all this SPAM from UPS?

Is it just me, or is everyone getting massive amounts of SPAM supposedly from UPS?

The messages all come from Info with a number or Support with a number, and they all say my package was shipped and I should get it within three days and my tracking is attached. Yet there is no attachment. Not that I would open it if there was.

I usually get them in a string of ten or more email at a time and then nothing for a while and then again I get a batch.

Just wondering if anyone knows of anything in regards to this feeble attempt at SPAM. I would have expected to see a virus in the attachment but there is no attachment.

I have been getting that for months, though lately there have been less. Also FedEx and IRS. They land in my Spam folder, and I never click on them. They all claim to have attachments.

Not from UPS in a while but have gotten some allegedly from FedEx to one of my Yahoo email addresses.

It's not an email I use when I order things so I'd never open those to that or my non-order email address.

One time I *was* expecting something from UPS that did arrive to my ordering email address but it ended up being one of those fake ones. When I opened it, it looked odd but because I was expecting something I blew it off. So I clicked on what I thought was the tracking link to see that it wasn't really valid.

I of course immediately ran my virus scans & nothing happened. Monitored all my accounts & changed passwords.

Yes, I forgot about the IRS and FedEx ones. I have not seen that many of them recently though.

The last week I've been getting the UPS spam emails too. At least a couple a day. The first one nearly had me fooled because i'd recently ordered a couple of things off ebay.

No doubt it's a trojan or something

As a general rule, it is never a good idea to open an attachment in an email, especially ones that contain executable files, unless you are expecting such a file from someone.

The spammers will also try to disguise their real urls by using anchor text in their links that make it appear the emails are from a known and usually reputable company company such as UPS, IRS, or Paypal. I always mouse over the link first to see real url and if it's not, I close out the email and delete it.

I assume the attachments would contain a virus, has anyone done a scan.

I did my best to track down the details on a russian sending 10-20 work at home emails a day, all linking to domains he owns, I reported the domains and IP to to the associated folks.

If they kept it down to 1 spam a day. they wouldn't incite people to take action so quick.

I open one up last year because I was expecting a Fedex package. It set off all the bells and whistles in my computer and was quarenteened. Also look out for DHL besides the others listed here.

Do not open !!!!! Just delete

Yes I have received some from Fedex and UPS.

This was actually first reported in 2008, though it never really disappeared and now is once again circulating. It may even be more active during the holiday season where people are usually expecting packages and makes it more likely for them to open email immediately and click on whatever.

Well like the basic SOP NEVER carelessly click and remember to update your antivirus software often, and back up your hard drive regularly.
