Larry Flynt and "Hustler" Ask For Government Bailout Money!

What a great marketing ploy!

"Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis and Hustler magazine
publisher Larry Flynt have said they will petition Congress
for financial aid along the lines of what the Big Three
auto makers are getting.

Francis said that he and Flynt are asking for $5 billion,
and that they have sent letters to Treasury Secretary Henry
Paulson, Congress and their local Congressman, Henry Waxman
(D-Calif.) with the proposal. Rep. Waxman's office did not
immediately respond to a request for comment."

Adult Entertainment Industry Wants a Bailout - FOXBusiness.com

Do you think they actually hope to get the money, or is this
just another way for Flynt to manipulate and use the media
for his own gain?

Larry Flynt is not only a modern day PT Barnum....he puts his money where is mouth is.

He exploits the press like the pro he is...while always making a much bigger point in the process---- usually at the expense of the US Government whom he's never backed down from. I love it!

I can assure you Larry has more money then he can count......and he's got big WAVOS! Anyone who has dug a thorn in the side of Uncle Sam all these years is either crazy or brave....Larry might be both.

A free speech libertarian who has managed to once again expose the blatant hypocrites who make up the Senate and Congress...as they write checks to every chump who couldn't make his industry work. Losers!

Larry's point is obvious....if Congress wants to use tax payer money to bail out losers then they should do it for every one! He's got a point.

Why should the car industry, wall street, and the rest of the mooches get a handout...while successful, rich pornographers get nothing because they're penalized for actually having the brains to run a successful business???

I think Larry Flynt......is spot on as usual.

      For the record.....

Larry's greatest stunt was offering up a million dollars for anyone who could provide proof of having slept with a married member of congress.

It led to the resignation of more then one busted scumbag on Capital Hill caught with his pants down--literally! Loved it. Especially when it always seems to be the same self righteous ones.....who preach morality. Funny how that works.

Thanks Larry....for once again taking out the trash and keeping it real.

Another great example of a PR genious.

I believe the Tax Payers would see a much better ROI if the 'bailout loans' that are supposed to be paid back, are put in the hands of proper business owners that turn a profit, not those whose specialty is driving a business into the ground and filing for bankrupcy.

I know it's a publicity stunt, but shit, I would gladly put my tax dollars into the hands of a successful business owner(s), compared to a business that is going bankrupt.

I saw this earlier and thought it was hilarious! Larry Flynt is quite the showman. But, I don't think the adult industry is in any serious danger. In fact, porn is one of the few almost recession-proof businesses. I've been quietly plotting how I can profit from it myself, even going so far as to buy a niche "adult" domain name (though I haven't put anything on it yet, but I've looked into some related affiliate programs in the adult industry). I figure, even when all the other money dries up, you can always make some cash in porn!

Good for Flynt for bringing our attention to this "serious" problem!

I think Larry Flint has taught more people to be self sufficient than the all the educational institutions put together. It's safe to say more people are holding their own because of his help than anything any polititions have done.

They should give him the bailout money. Hell, other than Larry Craig and Barney Frank half of them have probably been giving him money for years...

About $6,700 each if you divide it by 300 million.

Better idea would be to stop handing money out period. That stuff doesn't grow on trees you know, though some think it grows on printing presses.

I saw this piece yesterday which says it all about the US Government bailouts. Basically, the US governmenet does not have any real money to pay for the bailouts, but have to borrow more and more, rather like a ponzi scheme.

Things have the potential to get much worse!

"In layman's terms, there are three general types of debt: good, bad, and catastrophic.

An example of good debt would be borrowing money to double the size of a cash crop like corn. By borrowing money, you grow valuable produce to sell, and make enough to service your debt and profit from it. You have used debt to create wealth.

An example of bad debt is to buy something now that you would've had to save for later. If you absolutely have to be the first one in the office with the iphone nano, you can put that on your credit card and impress all of your co-workers. This is bad debt however, because you are going to have to pay interest on the money you borrowed.

Catastrophic debt on the other hand, is when debt is used to pay debt. This is usually the third or fourth step into bankruptcy for irresponsible individuals. An example of this would be going to a pay-day loan center to pay off credit card debt. In this case you are not only paying interest on the original bad debt (credit+interest), but you now have to pay off the new debt as well. (credit+interest+interest2) this is known as the credit death spiral.

Right now the United States is taking the catastrophic debt route to "save the economy". Essentially, Bernanke and Paulson are running a ponzi scheme that dwarfs that of Bernie Madoff. They are paying off investors with the money of new investors. The fed is trying to cover all of the bad debt that has built up over the last decade with more debt. This is logically identical to treating an alcoholic with a bottle of vodka. Due to the nature of the interest being accrued, and the false increase in GDP that was funded by this debt, we are locked into the spiral. Unless the gross domestic product outpaces the rate of compound interest it is only a matter of time before the system collapses."

I am getting much more worried about the US government response so far than the actual recession. I know Bernanke is a student of the Great Depression that he is desparately trying to prevent. But what he and others are doing could well set the stage for hyperinflation down the road and full-scale economic collapse. It just will not be long before China, Japan and others pull the plug.

As a virologist in my previous working life, I can tell you that there are many infectious diseases where the germ does not cause much damage but it is the body's response to it that causes the damage.

Exactly, borrowing out money to failing companies. The gov aint going to see any of this gov funded money repaid. I can vote for the auto makers at least.

They've been doing below belt business for years. They will continue doing below belt business. China is were the PROFITS are at.

Costs for manufactoring an auto in the USA is too high. Better just to fed up and admit it, move everything over seas to China.

It's the sad truth. We could see a far worse outcome to just throw more money away.

            Hi,

Yes I chuckled as I heard this on the radio news this morning in the UK - what made it funnier was the 'nothing-unusual-here' way in which it was delivered - surrounded by normal boring news stories, with no tongue-in-cheekness or chuckles afterwards. But I was listening to radio4 which is a bit stuffy.

This line in particular tickled me -

"People are too depressed to be sexually active," Flynt said in the press release. "This is very unhealthy as a nation. Americans can do without cars and such but they cannot do without sex."
So dry it nearly sucked the tea out of my mug.

They followed with a story about how our Mr. Brown is about to solve all of our problems by firing up the printing-press again and throwing some more fresh green about while the Bank Of England abolishes interest. Absolutely genius...

It's taxpayers' money, so it wouldn't be a "handout" -- we'd just be getting back some of our own money.

And where does it grow if not on printing presses? Paper money has no intrinsic reality -- it's just pieces of paper.

As someone with a beautiful wife - and an incredibly beautiful, lovely, and smart daughter, - I think that Larry Flint and Joe Francis are the absolute - bottom of the pond - scum of the earth. They exploit people in their weakest moments for profit, and I guarantee you that they've ruined a great many lives and relationships between the 2 of them.

It is true - that we all make our own decisions. But there are times in peoples' lives when they are most vulnerable to suggestion. Many of us have been in dire situations, where we may have taken money from people like Joe Francis, only to completely regret it later.

My point is - people that prey on other people in their weekest moments, should also be held accountable.

Would you let your Grandmother w/ alzheimers buy a plastic ring for $10K from a door to door jewelry salesman? Would'nt you say that the salesman should take most of that blame? Your Grandmother is after all an adult.

PS - Anyone with an 18 year old daughter knows that most of them don't think with an adult mindset.

Ignoring what I quoted, and my point, tells me you understood me.

The "standing up for my daughter against evil manipulators" is a very pretty sentence. It has nothing to do with what I said, but hey, it's pretty.

Ironic too, when you place the "standing up for" bit, together with the "18 year old daughter not thinking with an adult mindset" bit.

Gotta give the guy credit for being a marketing genius, pond scum sucking aside. His point is well taken at face value that solid business decisions endure, the exact opposite of how to qualify for a bailout.

On it's face, his businesses wouldn't qualify unless he turned into a bank holding company.

Larry just wants to get his "Money Shot" across the media. Great advertising ploy.

This all fits in with Obama's recovery plan. The money could be justified by the fact that if Flynt got the bailout money, think of all the out of work pretty girls he would be helping. And the added benefit is you would be stimulating more than just the economy! :p
