Storing Passwords For All A Million Sites We Have Accounts With..

I was just curious as to what Warriors use to keep track of their passwords. It's kind of a tough question because you really shouldn't use the same password for every site , because you never know who has access to your information.

I originally was using Sxipper , a free plugin for firefox, but the more I relied on it the more I couldn't do anything when I was away from my laptop. Then I though about trying keepass, another free software database thing.

It's just overwhelming sometimes, and extremely frustrating when your trying to post something somewhere and can't remember your account password.

Try roboform... you could sync data b/w comps using a network connection or hard drive or some mechanism to transfer files!

I have roboform 2 go. You load it onto a flash drive so you can take it with you to any computer. It remembers all of you login info for any site. It can also fill out forms with one click. Its an awesome tool and I think it's about $40 or so.

From my initial look at Roboform, it seems that its not cross-platform. I run a winbox and a macbook, and have some distros of linux as well. Not having linux support is understandable, but apple's market share is going up every day now.

That's a shame, because it looks quite nice. Thanks for the tips guys.

I found a FREE internet based solution which means you don't need to bring anything with you at anytime

Not only does it work on both PC's and Macs, but you can install a widget on your Mac and it's super easy to access

It creates super ridiculously complex passwords, the only thing you do have to do is to remember the master password that you choose.

If you own a PC or a MAc and you are away from your computer you can get *instant* access to any of your passwords with internet access.

All you have to do is go to their website.

Just choose your master password and type in your parameter like warriorforum

I've been using it for about 4 weeks now and like it more and more every day.

OK, the suspense is over, the answer is here:
        Hashapass

I hope you like it too

That site hasn't been updated since 2002 and neither has their software. what happens if they decide to stop working on the project, take their site down, etc.

Another vote for Roboform here. I also use it to store my site info as separate profiles. Makes it way easier to submit to directories or social sites.

I tried Roboform and it is handy BUT I deleted it because I just hate having to constantly deal with it's popups and stuff when I go to sites. What good is it not having to enter passwords when Roboform is constantly asking you to enter a password?

Wish there was something better out there...

You can turn off the pop up in Roboform Options - Autosave - Uncheck "Offer to Save Logins "
And also my vote goes for Roboform - or if you have more than one computer - Roboform TO Go . I have both versions and couldn't live without it.

I bought 3 licenses to Roboform + the Palm version. Love, love, love it.

I don't even remember how I managed all this crap in the past. For site where I have multiple accounts it's a blessing. (I'm looking at you, Google.)

I use KeePass. It is open source, free, small, very secure and leaves no footprint when running it.

I installed it on a USB pen drive (any size will work - KeePass is something like 500KB). That way I can take my password database with me and use it on any computer. It also has an "autotype" feature that bypasses the keyboard buffer and the clipboard, defeating keylogging trojans. It creates secure, random passwords for you. It is really simple when you actually take a look at it.

I only have to remember one password - the Master Password for the KeePass database. Everything else is managed for me automatically. It works with all kinds of programs (not just browsers) and I have never had the slightest trouble with it. It also uses a very secure encryption algorithm to protect your password database (unlike the built-in password managers in IE or Firefox).

Drawback: it only does password management. Roboform Pro can also help to automate the filling out of forms, like affiliate applications. KeePass doesn't do any of that.

                    Best Regards, Georgetta

Just put all usernames and passwords into one text file. Put a
shortcut to the text file on your desktop.

Copy and paste to your heart's content.

            Eric,

You were probably dealing with the timeout password in RoboForm. After a certain period of inactivity, RoboForm will ask you to re-enter the master password to access all your passcards. You can adjust that. Anyways, RoboForm, no doubt.

The other option is to creatre a set of rules for any site you have to log in to.

For example, using the first letter of the site name in lower case, then the 1st three digits from your license plate number, followed by the 4th letter in the site name (upper case), followed by your day and month of birth, BUT using the shift key.

For the Warrior Forum, it might look like this...

              w391R!)@$

It doesn't matter what rules you choose as long as it's the same set of rules each time. Some site WILL have the same password, but most will not. You could add an additional rule to take care of site names that start with vowels, and those that start with vowels.

Once you have the system down, it will be easy to create new passwords, and recall old ones. It doesn't take too long to get the hang of it either.

              Just a thought.

              ~Michael

im using two moleskin notebooks and a pen. i carry one notebook always in my pocket, and the other gets updated weekly and stored at a safe location. also, the second one is the only place where my email-accesses are written down, so i can recover passwords if the one i carry with me gets stolen.

    Yeah, Roboform.

And get the Roboform2Go option. There's a sync issue (they have another piece of software for that, but i think there's an easier manual way that I've just been too lazy to test); on the whole, though, extremely useful.

But... make sure you print out your full log-in list regularly and keep that hardcopy in a safe place.
