The #1 Tip For IM Newbies

If you could give only one tip to somebody who is just starting out with internet marketing or would like to learn more about it, what would it be?

Internet marketing is not for everyone, but if you are someone who is highly motivated by wanting success, financial freedom, and a fun job then it is definitely something you should look into.

If you are always wondering "what can I do to make extra money" and you spend a majority of your time on the internet, then you should try to turn that time into something productive like Internet Marketing.

My #1 Tip - Create a plan for your online success and do NOT give up on it.

I personally feel that in order to be successful online, you should try all kinds of online marketing and find that one method which fits your lifestyle.

The idea however should always be to start outsourcing the mundane tasks so you can expand your business quickly.

As a newb myself, I will say the concentration on one route untill you become successful in it before you start trying to branch out is probably great advice. It is too easy to get distracted by the latest brand new shiny method. Pick a route, make a plan and stick with it until you see some return

Don't go into IM with the mentality that you will be able to acheive greatness within a year... Prepare to fail and then prepare to fail some more, only then you can learn the lessons needed to succeed and learn them you MUST. Having goals and a plan is essential to success. Don't go at it blind, find the path you want to go down and stick to it.

I hear what your saying, preparing yourself to fail can make it more bearable so that you can be ready to learn from that failure.

But lets not make it seem as though you will fail, you just have to be prepared for it just in case you do.

A Lot of Great Advice Here.

In my opinion this is one of the best tips - for newbies and or current struggling internet marketers.

Sometimes you just have to write your plans on paper first. Decide exactly what you want, what you have to offer, and how you want to proceed. A business plan that lays the stone path out for you so that you know exactly what steps to take before you start.

Sometimes jumping right in just doesn't work out. I learned this the hard way.

This is my first post on this forum. I decided to stop reading and start posting, I hope everyone will find value in what I have to say.

      Hey everyone,

      Important advices above.

Let me to mention, there is something that people who want to succeed cannot afford to ignore. I think about the self-motivation. Self-motivation is crucial, if you wish to achieve success in your life. And you need to know yourself well, you should to know the ways how to motivate yourself.

What did Andrew Carnegie say? "People who are unable to motivate themselves must be content with mediocrity, no matter how impressive their other talents."

      Why self-motivation is important?

The diversity of your life produces new and more newer situations always, where you need to stand your's ground. You should have to be capable to maintain difficulties, must be able to hold your spirit excessive, regardless of how discuraging the situation is. Those that are discuraged in though instances are sure to lose earlier than achieving their dreams.

      How do you motivate yourself?

As seen in my life, a trigger you care about can be a highly effective source of motivation for you. This trigger can encourege you to provide your best even in a difficult situation. It might probably make you do things that you seem impossible earlier.

When I started my offline business in 1990, I wrote that main trigger onto a piece of paper and put it in my wallet. In the course of times, when I encountered such difficulty what seemed to stop me, I re-read that paper. It always gave strength to me to continue. And, I think, this little tool can help someone else as well.

      Many successes,

      Sandor

I totally agree, I first started out pumped with ideas of making it quick and then I saw no results, guess what, my motivation dropped fast. So advice to anyone that is new to this. Please create a vision book or board and focus only on opportunities to create your wealth and not focus on the I WANTS. You can't succeed without taking positive action with self betterment. Today is NOW ceased to make your tomorrow more closely to greater possibilities. Keep going because that is where you deserve to be.

This can definitely be a great motivator. I also use sticky notes and put a goal tracker on my phone that pops up with a daily notification to remind me to stick to business and keep pushing.

Anyone heard about Jim Carrey and his story? When he got to Hollywood to pursue his acting career, he wrote a check to himself for $10 million and post-dated it for 10 years with the hopes to cash it by then. Looks like that little motivator served him well.

As they all say, if you stick to your guns and never give up on your dreams, no matter how big or small and no matter how much you go through to get there, you'll eventually make it all become a reality

Yeah I would agree as it is in List building that you would be able to take off with the earnings. Just be sure that you do take care of your list. Do not just send promotions after promotions as you may saturate your list. Remember to send them something of value and build up a relationship with them. Selling is the easy part once you get your credibility and a relation with your list members up.

As good of advice as a lot of the stuff up there is, I think it's really missing the most crucial part in ANYTHING. And that is develop a successful mindset.

You see, a lot of the same stuff gets said on this forum over and over. Money is in the list, never give up, set goals, pick one thing and focus on it, etc. ALL incredibly good advice, but it does not fix the real problem that most people struggle with. Without the right mindset, most of these tips are useless. Take losing weight/getting healthy for example. You can give that person all these great tips. Eat smaller meals more frequently. Eat 30 grams of protein within 30 minutes of waking up. Get at least 8 hours of continuous sleep. Drink lots of water. Do high impact interval training instead of normal cardio. Etc, etc. But if that person doesn't have the right mindset, they will not change a thing about their situation. The methods are right there in front of their face but they don't know how to properly apply them because they simply don't have the right mindset to begin with.

A good successful mindset includes a few things. You don't believe in failure, only results. Those results don't make you think negative thoughts about yourself or what you're doing. Eliminate your limiting beliefs. There are so many limiting beliefs people have and they aren't even aware of how damaging these beliefs are. Recognize them, eliminate them, and replace them with positive empowering beliefs. And one of the most important parts of a successful mindset is to develop a BURNING PASSION for what you're doing. If you don't have a strong passion, you won't make it through the difficult parts. You must know what you will get out of all of this. You must know deep down in your heart what success will mean for your life, and it must be HUGE. Conversely you must know what it will mean if you don't succeed, how bad it will make you feel and how much worse of a situation you will have for yourself.

If you're just starting out, my advice is to not read another internet marketing related thing until you work on your mindset. Go get one of Tony Robbins books, or someone like him, and focus on your inner strength of mind first. Then come back and kill it in internet marketing. Because on this side of the tracks, success is the only option, and it is inevitable for anyone with the right mindset.

Ignore most of the stuff you read in threads like this.

    - If your plan is wrong and you 'stick with it' and 'never give up' you will fail
    - If you Fail fast and often then you will be a failure, why not skip that part?

Seriously it comes down to DOING the RIGHT things.

DOING (many people struggle with this because it involves energy)
RIGHT THINGS (your strategy should work and you can eliminate failure when you follow the right path).

I have been self employed for 10 years and I firmly believe in setting goals, writing them down on paper or on a white board. Sticking to your plan/goals. Staying dedicated to the plan of action. If possible separate your work space and research and learn about what you are planning on accomplishing. Try to become an expert if you can on your market/niche/genre and attack it and move fast. If you are passionate about what you do that will also greatly help you.

I have to agree with eljeffe77, keyword research is very important. In addition I think a thorough understanding of the competition for keywords is vital. So many people dive into IM and don't understand why they do not get traffic to their site, when they have decided to compete against formidable opponents, not realizing that page 20 of Google is useless.

I totally agree that Internet Marketing is not for everyone, since there are more and more people who wanted to use Internet Marketing as their way of earning some money, but quit after a week or month of trying.
I always inform my friends, and even acquaintances that Internet Marketing is NOT an instant money earning method. Yes, they can hear or read some articles that some people are earning around 4 to 5 digits per month. But they attained that amount because of hard work and persistency to the work that they are into. Some of those who are earning that much in the Internet Marketing business took them probably almost a year or more than a year to attain success.
My # 1 tip is to have a plan, focus on the plan and take action of the plan. Everything should be according to plan to prevent information overload and the tendency to be distracted by other ideas or concepts. Focus on your plan and stick to it, with this, it will minimize the infiltration of new ideas which claims to earn more money than what you do. Most people are persuaded with these kind of claims, which will eventually, these people will try or attempt to try the new concept, disrupting what you are working it. And finally, take action to your plan. Your plan will not materialize if no action is to be done. Action is needed to gain results.

I will agree with those who say that you should stick into one thing and duplicate it when you get successful on it. It will also save you a lot of money.

Again 2 people agreed on the concept thay says: If you stick to a wrong idea and not quit it, that means you will fail forever. This also seems true to me but I did not see people commenting on it.

My number one tip is to find someone who is already making a sufficient income and have them train you. When I didn't know how to build muscle and spent a majority of my time trying to do so myself, I never got anywhere. As soon as I got a personal trainer who was certified for muscle training, my physical results literally exploded. Sure, we had to slow down on my training, but I realize patience and following instructions that are proven to work usually help people achieve their goals.

I definitely agree that when you are spending much of your time on the internet then try using it in a productive way. And also in this field as far as I can say about my experience as a newbie, it is very much challenging and that is right the more information the more it overloads you so focusing on one thing works best for me. And also at the same time learning from previous mistakes. Also with this kind of business competition gets tougher and tougher which makes it more fun and exciting. Being passionate and happy about what you're doing can really go a long way.

My #1 Tip for IM Newbies is:

You need to DO with passion.

If you are promoting something that makes you bounce out of bed in the morning, glad to be of service to others, it makes the journey pleasurable, worthwhile, and longer lasting.

Someone once asked me for advice. She was working in a less than desirable partnership, quite frustrated and disillusioned with online business. As her online friend, I witnessed her struggle and wanted to help.

She has quoted me many times in saying, "Passion is what drives you. It gets you up in the morning and keeps you awake at nights. DO with passion and you will bear witness to success over failure."

She followed my advice and left the partnership to start her own E-Book Design business and loved every minute of it. Sadly, she passed away back in November of 2008, but I will always remember the SUCCESS that followed her as a result of her passion to help others.

I wish the same for you!

I found the above incredibly inspirational. It is the same rule that applies beyond the realms of internet marketing and in the real world. If you do a job you hate, you are never going to progress and move up in that profession. However if you are passionate about the job you do, you will go above and beyond naturally and will succeed as a result, without making a large conscious effort, and this will often lead to greater success in the form of a pay rise or promotion.

So I agree with you completely. Passion is incredibly important. If you are not passionate about an internet venture you are persueing you will not be able to keep it up for long. Soon you will stop answering customer questions and general service will drop, not because you are poor at delivering, its just because you don't have the passion and drive to do so anymore.

Also I am sorry to hear about your friend. Thanks again for the great post.

      Sonny.

    1. Find something that's working for you and stick with it until it doesn't work anymore. 2. Don't go WSO hopping. Buy an WSO, implement it; master it, dominate it.

    Oh, that's two isn't it?

To save yourself a lot of headache and hassle...before you start any project...get your head in the game.

We've been programmed to think that making money online is hard. That it has to be a struggle.

Instead, take a different approach from the very beginning. Program yourself to think that everything you do to make money online is easy. Do not consider any of it as hard or as a struggle.

The moment you begin to view this new career of yours differently, choosing your next move will be easy.

So, here' s an affirmation I like to use:

"Everything about internet marketing is unbelievably easy. My limiting thoughts stop now. I am now in the field of infinite possibilities."

Right it down. Read again and again.

My tip: Change your thoughts if you are full of fear and negativity.

as someone who's definitely 'made it', being online fulltime since the late 90s, running dozens of sites in various niches:

    a) become a genuine expert in something you're passionate about, for which there's a high market demand

    b) become proficient in graphics design and video production, site design, copywriting, and sales skills (that will take you many years)

    c) expect to take at least 8-16 hour days for many years to become successful.

    d) make sure your customers' needs are always placed first, and you're always genuinely there to help with with fast, accurate, friendly, professional help. your business must be in service of THEM, not about how to make you wealthy.

i just had yet another winning launch this weekend. the price of becoming successful is persistence and an insanely hard workaholic genius approach.

forget social media and affiliate programs. become a true expert and work your butt off in service of those who are in your marketplace, your customers, with deep, specific, authentically helpful products and services. expect the price you pay will be years of very very very hard work. And stop all that cheapie-how do i make money fast with (insert name of site or latest gurus' bs-launch here). That's not how people add value and build businesses online.

I stopped posting here years ago, because the tenor of posts had migrated towards 'latest technique for ___', which is still what many threads are about. There's more to it. Become a authentic expert who really helps people FIRST, and then employ the marketing techniques in service of who you are, and have become. I decimate my competitors who are marketers-first and experts-second, because they have no depth. And customers can smell the difference.

and study people like Brian Tracy, for work ethic, time management and productivity ideas.

That's the truth. Most never make it because they don't put in years of hard focused specific genuine expert work in service of customers. They look for shortcuts, and invariably fail. You should probably print this post out and put it near your monitor. It's accurate.

For newbies, I would recommend avoiding ANALYSIS PARALYSIS... there is no such thing as a perfect thing so don't keep on looking for the best or the ultimate Internet Marketing Blueprint. Just take action and while you are accomplishing something, you can always make improvements. If you let yourself be caught up in analysis paralysis, you can look after 1 year and you can still be on the same position. Simply avoid it. I have been there, done that. Just get in the game and you will learn faster when you are inside!

    My tip
Make sure if you find something that you have never really heard discussed on the board, mainly by accident you just stumble across it, and it REALLY WORKS WELL for getting traffic or ranking higher

    keep it to yourself

People share all kinds of stuff on boards, but dont go being a chef that gives your secret recipe away, thats plain dumb

we all have little secrets we keep and there is nothing wrong with that. I sometimes share mine with my best friends but none of us post these on the board.
