Selling your on information product on amazon

hey guys, although successful in marketing online ive never ever sold anything on amazon besides an income from its affiliate programs

now..I was wondering how does one go about actually selling THEIR on info product on amazon

e.g. "How to play a better game of gold - 5 dvds"

because it seems your product needs to be registered and have an identifiable barcode...

now perhaps am slightly dumb here..but can we do that for brand new products we create ourselves...vs big name products such as movie dvds, music etc which have there IISDN numbers or whatever they are called?

If you are selling ebooks there is obviously no need for barcodes but for shipping physical products you are going to need one.

My uncle wrote a book on accounting and it was $380 for 5 bar codes. Think he got a deal for buying 5+.

hmm interesting, dunno why I had the perception that we must do...

is anyone willing to share an example...doesnt have to be your product, but any?...I just wondered because typically the sales copy / layout doesnt look appealing on amazon...and I thought that may be to do with something that people whom are looking for the specific product will know about it anyway as its some kinda official well known products (hence I thought being registered) - dunno if ya all are with me so far lol...

I don't know about DVDs and such, but Createspace belongs to Amazon. It is for self-publishers. It assigns a SBN if you don't have one. I have a credit repair book that sells pretty well on Amazon. It comes up on the second page when searching for "credit repair." They've done a really good job of setting it up so that people can look inside.

I usually make about $100 per month from this book. My best day ever was in May, when they sold 30 copies, and I made $285. You can check it out at this link.

Thanks Curt....interesting, so just looking at your book now buddy, and its interesting, am total newbie when it comes to selling on amazon,..so did you need a SBN for your book?

secondly was it just a case of creating your product and then people searching it via the keywords in the title of book? - similar to ebay...plus proper categorisation presumbly?

You don't need a barcode for an ebook. There's nothing to scan. Barcodes are for physical products.

You do need an ISBN number to sell a book on Amazon. And I agree with Curt that going through CreateSpace is a great option for self-publishers.

Bill Myers has a series of DVDs on selling DVDs. His Marketing How-to DVDs might help you as it does have some information on selling through Amazon. (And he does sell DVDs through Amazon, so he knows what he's talking about.)

They gave me an ISBN. I've done nothing in regards to promotion. I promote the same book with a different name at one of my sites for quite a bit more money. So, I just leave my book on Amazon alone.

        • im sure we all here on the forum appreciate the importance of a good sales letter /copywriting...

but am confused how we can really do this in amazon as all the 'product descriptions' are very bland and seem text format only...

so how are we really going to be able to sell / pitch a custom product we are trying to bring to market and sell effectively on amazon?

I'll come to your salesletter in a moment but I wanted to clarify a few points mentioned by others.

Books (paperback) - Use Createspace.com - they will assign a ISBN and a barcode for your book and will also provide you with a template so that your graphic designer can keep all text and images off the barcode and ISBN corner on the back cover.

DVD/CD Cases (for DVDs and CDs) to sell on Amazon - Use Kunaki who will create the barcode and even shrinkwrap the DVDs (a must for Amazon) and ship your orders to Amazon.

If you really want to know how to do all of that well - without running into problems, you can do no better than join BMyers.com at only $9.95/m and find a lot of free information as well as "how to" DVDs on just this topic. Bill ships 10,000 DVDs/m at a time to Amazon where he sells his DVDs.

As for your sales letter on Amazon. You are right, apart from text, author "about me" type of thing, there are limitation. However, you should set up your own blog and sell your book and/or DVDs from you site, as well or, if you'd prefer not to handle any of that, simply have your graphic designer create banners for your DVDs and books (including Kindle) and when your prospects click on the banners, they'll be directed to Amazon from where they can purchase your goods.

For the best marketing strategies, etc, read John Locke's book on marketing your books. Even cheaper way of learning how he has become a bestseller on Amazon, go to his site: JohnLocke.com and see what and how he does things.

              Good luck

              James

                  My pleasure.

Just noticed your location - I'm a fellow-Brit - so a word of caution re Kunaki. They would be great if your target market is US or, at any rate, not exclusive to UK. Kunaki would NOT be great for automatic replication and fulfilment if you are asking them to ship your products to Amazon.co.uk The shipping costs would be prohibitively expensive for you.

If you intend covering both UK and abroad, then use Kunaki for the overseas customers and Amazon.com and find a replication and/or fulfilment company near you to ship your DVDs, etc, to Amazon.co.uk for your UK customers. If the latter is not possible (can't find a fulfilment company that's reasonably priced), then let Kunaki handle your Amazon.com consignments and set up a simple sales page on your own site and sell direct to your UK customers.

Here are a couple of links (not affiliate) I found whilst Googling - the first one boasted offices in Glasgow but its head office is in Kent but the second one is based in Glasgow

CD Duplication, DVD Duplication, CD Replication
                  http://www.easymultimedia.co.uk/

Many of them will also do fulfilment - ask. If you draw a blank, PM me and I'll suggest one or two that I and others have used used. BTW, I'm based near London.

You need to sign up for an account with createspace.com, which is an Amazon company. Here you can upload your pdf and self bublish your book. You can design a cover for your book using their templates or you can upload one of your own. You will be assigned an ISBN number for free. Once published, the book will be sold on demand, which means that you do not keep stock. They print one only when someone orders.

Lulu.com gives you an ISBN free and puts your books on Amazon (as well as Lulu's own market place).

You don't actually need a barcode (just the ISBN numbers will do) but Lulu supply one as a graphic you can put on your cover artwork.

Basically you upload the book to Lulu, select the option that says you want you book available on Amazon and 6 weeks later it is.

It costs more to get your own ISBN.

ok I think I know what I gotta do now..

last question..how does one go about selling their product on amazon for good conversion ratio...

because the dull paragraph of 'product description' doesn't do a product justice surely?!
