Help: What Happens If I change my Blog's Focus?

I presently have a blog which is rather old. Probably more than a year, and draws some good traffic. I, however, want to focus on "Money Making Niche". Right now, it is based on how to set-up, run and operate businesses.

It is too broad and I am directly pitting myself against businessknowhow.com, entrepreneur.com, etc, which I have no intention to.

I know there are a lot of blogs on that niche , but I this blog has been invested on already. There is some content there, all I need to do is to add more and probably sell some products off click bank; I'll need to give it some focus.

Any ideas on what angle I could take to give it a twist?

Bottomline : I want to use this blog to sell some click bank products.

You could combine the two to make it more specific and give it that twist.

How to set up and run a business to make money. And it just so happens that they will need the products you recommend.

You could also have a few transitional posts where you switch from one method to the other.

Framing some of the new posts to reflect the previos focus can help too.

    All the best,
    Michael

Changing the focus of a blog isn't that much trouble, I've done it a few times. My product review blog in my sig is an example of one that's been through several phases.

What I've done is change the blog title and description to emphasize the new keywords and then go and get anchored links for those keywords. For example, if I was switching from a 2005 theme of "how to make money flipping houses" to a 2009 theme of "how to short sale your house" I'd change my keywords on my site, publish several articles on the new topic so that all the recent posts reflect the new keywords and then go and get links with the new keywords.

Within a few days, Google should start giving you some authority on the new keywords, especially related long tails. As you get more related content and more links your site will begin to rise in search results, peak, drop back a little and eventually settle into a new spot in a few months. With any luck, you'll even retain authority on your old content as well.
