Does THIS type of video "captivate you" and "sell the product" well?

Hey guys,

Just doing a little "market research" here, and was wondering what you all think of the video in the link below (it's only 2 min long). Does it "grab your attention", and make you more interested in learning more about the product? Or even want to buy it? (provided you had any interest in that niche to begin with)...

Custom Facebook Pages

For the record I have zero affiliation with this product, and don't even have any interest in it. But that style of video does "captivate" me, to an extent.

Just curious what kind of effect it has on the public at large, as I may incorporate this style of video in a future project.

I think I got a little nauseous with the "shake" in the topography. I felt like I was back in the Navy and the first time I got deployed. Whew. I like topography, they are very easy to do in After Effects, but this is a bit much.

It looks professional and all that, but I find that when every word is on the screen and being spoken at the same time, the audio and the visual are fighting each other in my brain. I have trouble just following and understanding the message. So for me, bullet points and pictures = good; every word on screen = bad.

I didn't like the 'shaky' effect either, but the video's not bad....

better than most I've seen, but could actually be shorter. I would have liked to see some quick examples of the Facebook pages they do, and they probably could have started the 'call to action' earlier in the video.

Way too long for a squeeze page offering a business service.

It is flashy, but not smooth so no, it doesn't sell the product well. If they can't shoot a working video, how can they build me a high-quality FB page?

The content wasn't bad, but I had to look away with all of the "shaking." Some of it was innovative -the screens splitting vertical and horizontal wording, etc., but I would say to balance it to ease the readers' eyes. I also agree the call to action could have been sooner.

I would assume that you are talking merely about the aesthetics of the video.

A company that views Facebook as the new or fresh marketing avenue for their company would appreciate the modern design elements and style of the video.

I would think that it would be appealing to a company in need of Facebook services as long as they heard and understood the message.

    My thoughts:

    • The voice actor is solid
    • The video is not harsh or hard to watch
    • The shaky effect is distracting
    • Too much use of text
    • The techniques used became repetitive quickly
    Hope that helps!

Like 99% of the videos of this type I run across, I didn't make it to the end.

      1. I don't like autoplay, and unless I have a reason to watch the video, I click away immediately.

      2. That herky-jerky style gives me a headache, especially when the voiceover is going for high-energy and ends up with over-caffeinated.

That said, if my testing said they worked in a market I wanted to be in, I'd use them without hesitation. I just wouldn't watch them myself...

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Interesting. Although I probably would have done a few things differently, I do like the overall style of the video. But that might just be me looking at it from my "video geek" perspective , and not my "typical consumer" perspective.

I have a feeling the average consumer might like this style of video a little better than the average marketer would. It's a relatively easy style of video to produce, so I might have to do a little testing and find out.

I like this type of videos. This particular one is informative, innovative but a bit too long for a squeeze page offering a business service! It's only my opinion and I'd love to know how it's converting.

I've made more than a few like this and I like kinetic typography, but the shaky bit got old quick. Also it took 20 seconds to load and it was way too long. I didn't watch until the end. It was no real "hook" to the writing that sucked me in. Of course I make commercials and videos for a living, the average viewer may love it, which I often find to be the case. Work that I consider blah, I have had clients go nuts over and work that I have poured my soul into have been rejected for lesser videos. Eye of the beholder yah?

The video takes to long to get to the benefits of what a fanpage provides and even when it gets there you have to filter them from all the other text flying across the screen while listening to the voice --(which in my opinion is too caffeinated--good one Mr. McCabe )

Overall it's trying too hard and needs to focus a bit more. Also ,I'm not a fan for video sans controls.

I know its popular in IM circles but don't know how it tests in other markets.

I'm in this camp. You can't please everyone, so you just gotta do what looks professional and gets results. The shaky thing annoyed me after a couple minutes, but it wasn't too off-putting. Voice-over was excellent and overall the effect of the video was of a professional offer. Good stuff.

I do prefer to have some personal contact and emotion, which it did not.

You are not going to get the type of poll results that will help you in this forum. You are asking marketers what they think about a piece of marketing. That is not the way to find out if that particular marketing is any good.

Ad agencies use focus groups made up of people that are not in the business to test their campaigns. They could easily ask everybody in the office to come in and take a look, but the result would be opinions from a bunch of people that have seen it all, have set feelings about certain types of advertising, and are probably not interested in the product being pitched in the first place.

With that being said, I believe that most people in this forum will trash the squeeze page in question, but most small business owners looking for answers on how to market on FaceBook would be intrigued.

Excellent point, Brian. I agree 100%. Just thought I'd get a little "preliminary" feedback before I do some "real" testing.

I liked the video. It is fast paced, good voice over and seems informative, even though I didn't bother to listen to every word of it since I am not interested in the offer.

If I see a similar video to a product/service I am interested in, I would probably watch the whole thing to get the information. When I watch a video, I like a bit more visuals (graphics etc.) but that could be just me.

Check out some of the slide show style videos in IM niche, you will get the answer. (In short, Yes it is)

Did not like the video. As a former broadcaster and production guy, I can say with certainty, cuts too quickly from shot to shot and different framing is not good video production. The rule of thumb is 3 seconds per shot. That said, anything right now is way ahead of the curve in terms of generating traffic. Google purchase of You-tube was similar to the purchase of Manhattan for twenty four dollars worth of beads.
