$1.99/1st year Yahoo Domain Name

INTERNET MARKETING

Yahoo is offering domain name for $1.99 for the 1st year. Renewal is $34.95/year. Was wondering if I could signup for $1.99 and before the 1st year expires transfer and renew with other cheaper domain name registrars. Will I have problems doing so?

What an informative post. NOT!

Rather than just trash a company, at least give some good and valid reasons,
preferably from your own personal experience and not just hearsay.

Or godaddy for that matter in my opinion hehe..

1) They call me and annoy me
2) They email me constantly
3) Someone breaks into your site and spams people you can have your domain held hostage.
4) Bob Parsons is an arrogant ass... lol

I like enom they don't bother me...just let me register my domains and leave me alone lol....

if yahoo is letting .com to get register for 1.99/year and next year $ 34 something .. well that has to be tricky ... that you can't transfer , Yahoo is a billion $ company , they would have thought about this minor detail first before launching such offer..

but $ 34/year in such competitive market , doesn't make much logic ..

Here is a reason to not use Yahoo...

If you have a domain that you want to let go and not renew your out of luck. Yahoo will register the domain for another term and then bill you for it. If you don't pay them then they will continue to bill you and close your yahoo account.

Also, you have to make completely sure that if you want to transfer a domain before it expires that you do so or you will end up paying $39 ( or whatever the fee is now) just to renew the domain plus the transfer fee whereever you want to move the domain to.

I know all of this from experience because I had a few domains with Yahoo that I got for the $1.99 for first year and was going to transfer them to my regular domain registrar but either decided to let the domain go or forgot to transfer before it was up for renewal.

I've put out around $300 just to renew or transfer a handfull of domains since Yahoo raised their prices.

  yeah I agree.....forget about the Yahoo $1.99
  I did buy couple years ago but had hell getting the domain names
  as Yahoo registered them through an Austrailian registrar and I basically had no control...
  I was directed back to Yahoo when I approached the registrar...

This sounds accurate. I can see Yahoo doing this. I personally use 1and1 to register my domains. Aside form being $6.99, all domains (excluding .us) come with free privacy for life.

I bought a 1.99 domain name from Yahoo several years ago and transferred it before it came up for renewal with no problems. They may have changed their TOS, so check it out first.

  I have used the Yahoo domains and transfered them without problem. To avoid getting slammed with $34 I used the PayPal SINGLE USE virtual card to buy them.
  
  I know that people here have some adversity with godaddy buy I find that their customer support is incredible and prices reasonable (Just always use a coupon).

I have kind of thought that Yahoo didn't want to be in the domain game anymore by raising their prices that high. I mean $34.95 a year doesn't even make sense...I remember back in like 1996 paying $72 a year though. But as far as transferring I don't see why you couldn't. You probably should read their TOS real well though to make sure there isn't a catch.
