Unsubscribing from email lists

I always look at the reviews and when a product comes up that people don't like they always say that they're going to unsubscribe from the email list of the person who promoted that product. I find this ridiculous. They're internet marketers, that's what they do. You can't really think that there's someone who won't ever promote a product you don't agree with?

I went through this when I sold hearing aids. I would get tons of emails from people whose lives have been changed for the better after purchasing my products. I would also get a few from people that were unsatisfied. I could wallow in self pity for not helping everybody or I could refund those that I couldn't help and bask in the great feeling of knowing that I helped the majority.

This is not even worth a minute of thought. I used to get wired up when somebody would reply to an email with what you described. I would email them back explaining why I thought the product was a good tool for this reason or that and that not everybody on my list will have a solid use for it.... but then I smartened up.

There are much more productive ways to spend my time. I could be teaching my dogs a new trick or simply watch paint dry.

You will never please everybody on your mailing list. You do what you can to provide as much value as possible, even when suggesting a product. If somebody gets nasty with you, do you really want them on your list, soaking up your wisdom for free?

I just continue to promote the quality products that I support. If you are out to try and please everyone then you will fail terribly. There will always be concerns such as this, but just stick to what you know best and you will have loyal subscribers.

I have a list that I only send out newsletters to. I lead them to my website for more information which contains my ads. If I marketed to them they would unsub. I have several lists and my others are for promotion etc.

I have two dogs. One is a beagle and the other is a king charles cavalier. This information is about as relevant to the conversation as yours.

I mean this in the most loving way.

I have no problem when people unsub, in general. You're on my list because you wanted something that I was giving away or you bought something from me, but maybe after a while you feel that you are just getting way too much email. It can be a distraction. I get it... not a problem and no hard feelings. Come on back if you change your mind.

On the other hand, when someone gets abusive and tells me that I "suck"? I do take it personally.

Once you've had a list for a while, you realize that you will, at best, develop a good relationship with only a small percentage who like you and like what you write about and recommend. The rest will fall off. That's as it should be. The key, I think, is not to begrudge those who leave or change your ways in response. If you feel good about what you write and the offers you send, keep on keepin' on. And keep adding new list members. Over time that core group that is on the same wavelength and digs you will grow and the money will grow along with.

I might give someone the benefit of the doubt if they promote one sketchy product but after that I usually unsubscribe.

When it comes to promoting products I do my best to make sure it's only something I bought myself or have used or at least got a review copy of...

So, I rarely get emails complaining about what I promote and If I do I simply use the link at the bottom of the email and unsubscribe them myself

I know what I promote is quality - if they don't like it - I'm sorry, but everyone else does...

I always encourage people who don't want to be on my list to unsubscribe. I always make it very clear at the bottom of the email how they got on my list and make it very easy and clear how they can unsubscribe...

I mean - when most of us are happy to get 10% opens - why worry about the 0.01% who don't like us...

If they don't like what I promote and want to unsubscribe I encourage it - that's the same advice I follow myself and have said this on more than one of my webinars :p

When marketing to mass audiences you just have to keep trucking - when you have the majority thanking you and your happy with it - let it be

    Just my 0.02

You have to build a bit of a thick skin when using an email list.

I couldn't tell you how many people have thanked me for the emails I send to people but every once in a while I'll get an email from someone fairly irate. It burns but you just have to take everything with a grain of salt - you can learn a lot from people that complain because at least you'll hear from them than the people that are pissed off and leave the list without any sort of feedback.

You can't please everyone. If they're going unsubscribe, our list is cleaner to those who are willing to listen or buy from us only. it's a matter of natural selection.

talking about unsubscribe, I recently unsubscribe from a marketer who boomed my inbox with 5 - 6 emails a day, everyday! He's freaking nuts!!! I understand if a marketer sends me offer thru' inbox, but this one had obviously crossed the line.

Understand what you're getting at but I think some of the reason for unsubscribing are because the product promoted were pretty much crap. The classic example flying round are the Clickbank products created by strippers who are now internet millionaires.

If you don't trust the product recommendations from the emails or marketer X how can you trust the marketing advice in the emails of marketer X?

I personally feel that if we try our best to give the best content and we recommend the good products, the majority of the subscribers will be happy. But as some warriors have mention, we cannot satisfy everyone but we should be glad when the majority of the subscribers are still willing to read the email.

Keep on bringing new stream of subscribers to the list so that the business will still be functioning
