One big website, or several smaller ones?

Hi there,

I think this is a good question not only because I don't know what the answer is (haha!) but because possibly other newer IMs may be wondering the same thing.

For the purposes of overall success with affiliate marketing (looking for the money makers here) and assuming I am doing everything correct SEO wise, Backlinking, article uniqueness, etc is it better to have one website (say per niche) with as much content as you can create for it (in a well laid out, easy to navigate manner) or is it better to say split this content into possibly 3 or 4 sub-niches (<<< Is that a term?) if that's a possibility with the content you have produced...

Reason why I am asking is because I'm torn whether to:

Build Niche websites with lets say 5 pages of nicely laid out content (say 800+ word articles on each page with the point I'm making/Problem I'm solving) and include links to a squeeze page where they can opt-in to my mailing list, Or even offer up something right there within the article and have an opt-in form that redirects viewers to an affiliate product (Less clicks that way may be better??)

OR

Do I build one blog/website with all the article and content I create for the Niche and affiliate offers for the Niche accessible from this one blog/site?

OR

Do I create single page websites with say one rich in content article on each one (I guess maybe like reviews), and build a lot of them??

You can grill me every which way on this one if you want, I am really interested in hearing what the Warriors have to say about it, because I decided two weeks ago when I quit my job that Internet marketing is where my heart is at, I'm not a total newbie to internet marketing, but when it comes to making money at it.... I am newb guilty.

Thanks for reading! Please PM me if you are willing to help me out, outside of this thread.

I personally target both and build both types of websites. Anyways even big websites start from small ones before becoming big.

But the benefit of keeping small websites to supplement your main websites is that in case your big sites somehow lose traffic due to any reason or if the niche dies down then you would still not be facing online bankruptcy. And till the time your big websites do well you can also grow your small websites to that level. Think for the future and only big or small websites might not work out well. As I always say, diversify and diversify even more with time. If you plan to make a living and move ahead as a webmaster then diversify as much as you can and try to grow everywhere. Not only online but diversify offline too to grow a business.

    Hi Tye,

My experience has been that having multiple, smaller websites is the much better way to go. Putting everything into one website would dilute the overall feel the websites would have separately.

If you are really looking at making a career of internet marketing and want to make the big bucks, you should look into one of two things: Product Creation or Market Your Services to Companies.

Affiliate Marketing allows you to make a few bucks, even enough to live off of... but the way all the "Guru's" have all the ClickBank sales that they show is from selling their own products that affiliates push.

Best of luck in your internet marketing adventure! There's going to be some ups and downs, but just remember to keep on executing on the ideas you come up with!

Thanks guys, Yeah I do know that things need to be diversified (multiple streams of income right!), so that makes a lot of sense... I think I am going to start by writing about a niche directly related to a couple of affiliate products, and than I'm going to put into action the traffic generation techniques I have learned over the last two weeks.... during all this I think it'll be good to keep a blog of what I've learned about IMing and everything new I'm learning.

Also Warrior Ben thanks for the Free mobile website template, I just dl'd it and will check it out, looked pretty interesting.

I just focus on one website, but I am competing for a number of new long tail keyword phrases every day, with the numerous blog posts I write.

Well just one site will do for me. Specialize in one site means that you have more time of being quality wise instead of being quantity that might disrupt your potential to make good content and products regarding that niche. For me, I focus on health blogs since I love doing all sorts of crazy stuff related to health.

If you're only doing adsense, it doesn't really matter. The more important is the traffic per site.

And of course, if Big G get offended, it doesn't really matter whether you have big or small sites. They just close your account, no questions asked.
