I'm putting a few names together and I check with network solutions for availability. Of course I want to get a keyword in the name. I was wondering if anyone knows if: Will Google rank site differently if the url has hyphens.
For example - makemoneyonline.com vs. make-money-online.com
Thanks for any advice.

    I have read in places that google will not rank website with a hyphen but not for sure though. I guess if you can get authority link from high PR pages, you should be ok I guess.

      Google will rank a site with a hyphen. I have one ranked in the top of Google for it's keyword which is the site name (with hyphen).

      That said, I prefer domain names without hyphens. Can you see yourself saying to someone or sharing on Youtube...

      visit my site at "xxx dash xxx dash xxx site dot com/net/org or whatever"?

    Google slightly favors hyphens because keywords are easier to pinpoint, but for practical purposes and to make it easier for people to remember and type in, I never use hyphens in any of my domains.

    The best thing is to research and find out how websites with hyphens are ranking using seoquake.That way you will 100% sure.
    Lemmi try also and will revert to you.

    You're going to find a lot of conflicting answers to your question, because Google doesn't always rank everyone the same way. Basically, you're going to be graded on a curve against your competitors. Sometimes hypens hurt...sometimes hypens help.

    Pros:
    makes keywords easier to determine;
    makes url easier to read (and thus a better User Experience in the eyes of the algorithm)

    Cons:
    not an exact match for searches

      Thanks Moccinter, I kinda figured the same. In the end it likely comes down to original content.
