Question about Paypal Disputes

I had someone raise a dispute on me today because they purchased one of my backlink services and even though I sent them reports of the work, they are pissed that Site Explorer hasn't indexed their links yet.

They aren't even claiming that I did not deliver the service or anything, they are just pissed about the links not being indexed yet and don't want to listen to me saying that sometimes it takes a while for Site Explorer to update it...

I even explained how Site Explorer claims I have thousands of links pointing to one of my niche sites that I had rented for 1 month and haven't had pointing to me for about 4 months now.

So... their backlink service was completed, I followed through with my end of the deal. Site Explorer WILL index their links eventually and I have no control over that.

So, if I escalate the dispute will it automatically close it in my favor?

Has anyone else dealt with a similar situation?

  • Hi Matt,

I might be wrong about this, it's late and I'm tired, but I think that Paypal's TOS says that they only protect 'physical products.'

If that is the case, you can probably fight it and win.

BUT... sometimes it makes sense to just issue the refund and move on. Calcuate your time value of money and decide if the time you need to spend settling it exceeds the value of the monetary gain. If it doesn't, just issue the refund and move on. It will mean a lot less aggravation for you.

  • That's good advice Marcus.

I honestly would have refunded them by now but they came at me with such a bad attitude and cussing at me about it and telling me I am fill of BS... so, I hate to give them their money back all the while they get to keep those links.

    • Hey Matt,

uh... you still know all the links, right? Why not just develop some 'competition' and blow them away?

There's more than one way to skin a cat ya know?

  • Good Luck! Over my years of selling products and services online I think I'm like 1 for 30 on winning PayPal disputes. I need to use another service! lol

They don't care if you don't have something physical. Just give your side of things very clearly and all you can do is hope they understand even if the client has no idea what is going on!

I usually just let them go now days because it is such a waste of time trying to explain that a user did get something or set up a subscription themselves and that their account wasn't stolen. It gets annoying but it's not the end of the world.

    • Paypal does the same to me and I also agree that when it comes to Paypal, it's better to just forget about it.
  • i had one dispute/unresolved issue today decided in MY favor, the funds which were on hold went into MY account.

This was the first time this happened..usually i am always on the losing side
