Thanks for the link. This is an excellent opportunity for everyone that has been afraid of PPC (mostly due to the number of people that say it is dangerous, but have never taken the time to run a campaign cautiously) to actually go out, start a campaign with a small daily spending limit, test, optimize and learn how truly powerful PPC is.

Thanks guys .. I found out myself from google's website..

But question on the credit - it says

Get your $250 credit. In your AdWords account, fill out your "Billing Preferences" under the "My Account" tab. Enter your coupon code exactly as it appears on your mailer. Click "Save and Activate."

So is there another email with the coupon code before filling out your billing information ??

Thanks.. Not sure I like that trade off though.. I give them all my billing information (Bank account, I don't use credit cards, this is why I am 100% debt free) then wait days to get a credit in my mail..

I would think a credit would be to get you to try their services, not commit to paying for the services first...

    Hi Guys,

I hate to rain on your parade but many Google promo codes are unique and only one time use.

In this case you need to have a unique promo code sent out by google on the mailer they mention on that page in order to qualify.

Google will ask you to enter your promo code when you get to the billing step of the account setup process.

Quick question! With the expiry of that promotion being 1/31/2009. Do you know if that's just to apply for your promo code? I'm assuming that you would not have to spend the whole $250. by that expiry date. Any idea on how long Google would allow you to carry on that credit before it's totally spent? Thanks for any info regarding that...

Dave that is on the billing form you fill out, it says the promo must be spent before the deadline date.. So in this case, correct.. You must spend all $250 before the 31st.

To me I am not going to bother wasting my time, if they gave me a credit to try their service then I would be more opt to do so...

For those that really want to do this and are complaining about a credit card, google does do direct payments from your checking or savings account..

          James,

Thanks for that clarification. Agree, trying and testing things at a slower pace would be nice. Good to know that Google will be helping us spend more money so quickly after that $250 credit is all used up...

Hopefully they'll be good to us with a nice ROI!

$250 in free ad credits from mighty Google isn't anything to sneeze at.

You should take a look at Google's Site Placement Ad Program.

    - You select what sites you want your ads placed on.

    - You can purchase displays of your text ad for as little 0.25 per thousand impressions.

Is that 1 million impressions for a free $250?

If your ctr moves at only 2.5% that would be...

25k free visitors!! ( correct me if I'm wrong )

Tip: Some folks are locating cheap traffic first and then locating fast selling affiliate products for the cheap traffic and making a killing.

    Hope This Helps!!

    TL

Ps. Of course your CTR could be higher or lower and the ad placements could cost more than 0.25 per thousand impressions.

PPs. There is cheap and expensive software to help you locate cheap but profitable niches in the system fast.

Here's a link regarding finding sites through google's system for free.

      Josh,

Google mails you a unique code for the credit that can be entered after you sign up and select your billing preferences. You don't need to spend a dime (other than the $5 activation fee) to use this. You simply wait for the code to arrive via regular mail, plug it and wait until its credited to your account. Select Pre-Pay billing and voila, your capped and have $250 at your disposal. Hope this cleared up some confusion out there.

        Wow, thank you so much!
But one question, where can I see that the $250 have been added?
I signed up for an account but it just looks like a new account and I can't find any balance in it.
But wow this is so cool if I can get it to work!

Edit: NVM, thank you Eric Stanley, I saw your post and it helped me, I just wish you could pick the postpay billing and still use the 250 dollars, but well it doesn't matter that much.

You can select Post-pay billing. I just stated select pre-pay if you do not want to spend over the $250. If you do, then post pay is the way to go

From Google's terms: "Promotional credit must be applied to a new AdWords account within 15 days of creating the account and is valid only for new Google AdWords customers with self-managed signup accounts."

Doe this mean you have to spend the $250 in 15 days?

Thanks Dave. Which means the campaign has to be planned out in advance of signing up otherwise there is the danger of simply pouring the $250 down the drain.

Actually, you'd only be pouring the $5 activation fee down the drain really....

The way I look at it, why not? I don't mind risking $5 to have an extra $245 to "test" Adwords with

The Jan 31st is the expiration date of the offer, so you must apply AND submit the $250 coupon before the Jan 31st.

I had a $50 coupon and i used it in a $1 a day campain long time ago for 50 days for one of my friends and it last after the expiration day of the coupon.

Beware that Google can detect you guys if u used another credit card with same Name and same IP address.

Personally, I think after a few registrations with the same address, Google will be paying you a No can do visit... Especially, since this offer is through direct mail. Unless of course you're currently living at atleast 5 different address with unique IP addresses etc... Just my opinion...

Hate to rain on anyone's parade, but I do not think it is likely anyone "just signing up" will get a code mailed to them.

Here is the main official help thread at google
      ht tp: /w w w.google.com/support/forum/p/AdWords/thread?tid=20da168f7d04e844&hl=en&fid=20da168f7d04 e8440004618152517f98

      Note this part:
      1) A very limited offer was sent through the United States Postal Service (USPS) to a selected sub-set of AdWords advertisers. Only advertisers who received the mailer through the USPS were eligible for promotional offer. It was not announced elsewhere by Google

      2) I do not personally know how this sub-set of advertisers was selected. However, this offer was not made available to all AdWords advertisers, nor was it intended to be.

      3) The mailer, sent through the USPS mail, contained the URL that has been posted here, and in multiple other threads on this forum.

      4) The URL was also evidently posted by quite a number of people (who are not associated with Google) on their blogs, etc. - and made to appear as if it were an open offer available to all advertisers. As mentioned above, this is not the case.

      5) The resulting confusion is clearly upsetting to those posting in this forum. Unauthorized folks who wrote about this offer have inadvertently created a situation in which entirely unreasonable expectation were set for a lot of folks who read about an offer that was in fact not available to them. You would also be correct if you guessed that the situation was not considered as ideal by the folks here at Google who sent the very limited mailer to a particular set of advertisers.
I was looking into signing up and where I mght find the mailer code (etc), and came to the above. If it winds up working out differently, let people know. Tia and good luck.
