Pages on a subdomain?

If I used subdomains on my site (for example blog.mydomain.com or freeshizzle.mydomain.com) would the individual pages on those subdomains help rank for my main domain?

I'm limited with WordPress to either free themes or the one I bought before I knew what I actually needed. It's workable, I'm tweaking some CSS as I can figure out what elements to tweak, but I'd like the visual appearance of different "segments" of my site to look different. Having it all on one wordpress installation doesn't allow for that (then again, maybe I just don't know how).

Any thoughts on this? Thank you very much for any input

You can never really know for sure how Google works, but it seems that subdomains will help your main page rank like any other page within your website. They do not, however, count as off-page network. It is a matter of preference whether you chose blog.domain.com or domain.com/blog

    Hi
If you want your main domain to get ranked you must definitely use a sub directory not sub-domain as sub domains are considered as completely different domain in terms of search engine. sub domains have their own page rank.
    here sub directory means http://yourdomain.com/subdirectory.

See one of my site for example : Vestige Online
I give websites in sub domains to clients for free.

      Awesome, Thanks so much everyone!

I had read 2 of the three links you posted Debbie, but hasn't come to a clear conclusion really. The middle link cleared it up, as did your reply Rayur.

It's clear I must do subdirectories!

Given that then.. What is a good wordpress theme that will allow for each page to appear unique if I so desire? I am not sure if I understand correctly, but it seems ProfitsTheme does that, according to the sales page.

I'm strapped for cash atm so working with what I have, i will just settle for all pages / segments looking the same For Now. But I would like to get a better idea of what to buy when the funds come clear for reinvestment.

I like ProfitsTheme because it does MLM sites and seems to be able to have unique pages throughout a domain. I rarely see anyone talking about it though, always OptimizePress.

      Any more thoughts?

Thanks again! You guys rock <3

It is always a big problem if we ask questions before understanding what we want... and how the tool in our hand (in this case WP) works.

To be honest, your question doesn't make sense. At all.

You don't have to buy anything to set up the structure of your URLs in a blog.

    example.com - your blog
    example.com/my-confused-questions-goes-here/ <== this is a WP Page
example.com/questions/my-confused-questions-goes-here/ <== this is a Page having as parent the "Questions" Page

Can you explain what do you desire as "unique" in a WP Page?

If you are referring to different look for different Pages - the answer is Page templates.

The WP online documentation, the Codex has all the answers you need. No need to spend money, just some time to learn:

Thank you for the link to the Codex Istvan.

I will read over it in the morning, pinning it now. By unique I simply meant, different colors, headers, etc. For example, on my main info pages, one color / header scheme. On blog section, another. In my training section, another.

I will check through the codex for answers to that in the morning.

I apologize that my question makes no sense to you. That is a problem with many of us who are just beginning, and lack the experience, knowledge of our elders. I feel... quite often... that it is a touch and go thing asking questions on the warrior forum.

Often times even framing the question is 3/4 of the battle. If one frames it wrong.. the response can be rather biting. Or more confusing.

At any rate, my brain is certainly done for the night, so I'll dig into that codex when my son takes his nap tomorrow! Thanks Istvan and all who helped.

I only use subdomain for different niche, i.e. health.myblog.com
afaik overly adding subdomains can somewhat decrease your TLD in Search engine's eyes.

You can get unique looking pages in any theme - but you have to program them yourself or hire someone to (I don't know of any theme that does this automatically).

Here is a link about how to make category pages different. The same principle applies to posts, pages, and any other part of wordpress.
