How are you preparing (IM Wise) for 2012??

I don't know if any of you warriors watch those youtube videos that are speaking of what is going to "befall" us in 2012, but i find these videos somewhat interesting, especially with 2012 now around the corner.

What, if any, things are you guys doing IM/business wise to prepare for the 2012 scare??

Is anyone in the "2012" niche, creating youtube vids, etc?

I never worry about Chicken Little events...

The only concern for 2012 is whether I will survive the end of the world on Dec 21st... LOL

Of course I am kidding, because I don't believe in any Chicken Little events...

Some book that we cannot discuss here says something about how, "No man can known the future."

I have been on this earth long enough to know that is probably true.

      lol...

This looks like a department store thread. It's only September and they are already hanging up the Christmas decorations.

      I'm more focussed on 2011.

      Call me old fashioned.

My mom did that... we didn't buy toilet paper for 8 years. I kept asking her why she thought we needed so much if the world was going to end... I remember saying "Mommy, if the world is going to end, doesn't that mean we won't need toilets and our toilet paper is going to get destroyed too?" She also got sooo much canned spinach. That was our dinner vegetable for around two years. I still remember just sitting and looking at her after midnight and asking if I still had to keep all of the toilet paper in my bedroom.

It's hard to take anybody seriously if they buy into that whole 2012 thing. Interesting though, I watched this special on History Channel about the 2012 predictions, and it turns out that even the Mayan descendents who live in South/Central America and practice the same rituals and believe in the same beliefs, don't even think the world is going to end in 2012. They do think something will happen but they think of it more as a new beginning, but far from "the end of the world." (And before someone points it out, yes this is my first post)

From what i saw its some consciousness change/shift..not really the "end" at all, but some kind of new "age" or beginning? I wonder if i will see a boost in my serps..lol

So I'm in the "nothing" camp.

There are all sorts of predictions for 2012 from the Myans to the freaks.

In the end if the world crashes I have a little property out in the country where I can go with my friends and grow our own food and keep away from the cities.

Well if the world ends in December 2012, I don't exactly think there's much you can do with IM to save yourself.

Backlinks aren't going to protect your house from a giant asteroid hitting the earth.
High CTRs on your Facebook ads won't protect you from invading aliens.
A sweet deal on a media buy won't hold back the floods or fires destroying your neighbor's house.

I wouldn't let that idea be a reason that I would feel some "paranoia" behind my mind, since I always believe that no one can determine what will happen in the future.
So for me, I will still be trying to learn more about the IM business, and improve on how I am performing at present. Read and read more articles and posts from successful people on how they had overcome challenges and earned what most of us will say, I hope I can earn that much also.
Hmmmm, the 2012 predictions really gives a stir to the public as I have read in some magazines that some people from other countries have been preparing for that day to come. Some of them are already storing foods and materials needed for that dreaded day to come.
Just keep on doing what we are doing at present, we just have to wait and see when that time comes.

Off the top of my head, here are a few times the world was supposed to end: 999, 1891, 1991, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2007, and 2010. And many more I am overlooking.

      We survived all those.

If you want to profit from the hoopla, the smart thing to do would be to build a real business around survivalism. You can take advantage of any predicted end-of-the-world date, but don't hype it too much yourself. You want to get sales off the worried, while at the same time not destroying your own credibility afterwards, when nothing happens.

Look at 1991-1999, which was a long stretch. Sure, you could have played on the end of the world coming in 1999 when 1992 rolled around, but that would have been 7 years away, and people tend to wait until the last minute. So, you would likely have struggled in sales for most of those 7 years.

Instead, if you build a site on survivalism, there are so many things you can do. It's an evergreen niche if you play your cards right. No matter what happens in the world of end of the world prophecies, there are always genuine threats that people should prepare for, such as earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes, floods, fire, industrial accidents, plane crashes, war, etc.

I'm so glad I'm not one of them.

Where I live, preparation for disasters/emergencies is simply prudent. Having a bug-out bag, 3-day emergency kit, and more is simply part of being prepared.

Look at the tv and see people in the wake of Hurricane Irene. Maybe they didn't suffer damage, but some communities are completely cut off from the rest of the world right now. Having a stash of supplies certainly would be a benefit to them.

Even in a best-case (relatively speaking) scenario, it normally takes up to 72 hours for federal help to arrive with aid. (Hence the suggestion for a 72-hour kit for everyone.)

I don't use fear-mongering on my sites. I preach a message of preparedness.

It just so happens that a lot of my readers ARE concerned about 2012, so I will, of course, address that in my marketing efforts.

No fears about 2012 - the fact that the Mayan calendar author ran out of ink is not a great concern to me.

2013 however is a different story.

There is actually a legitimate concern that there might be a repeat of a phenomena known as the Carrington Event sometime soon, most likely in the Spring of 2013. This event was a "mass coronal discharge" from the sun that occurred in September of 1859 (in fact today is the anniversary of it), it was named after the astronomer who first observed it. It caused a huge electromagnetic burst that resulted in auroras that were seen as far south as Hawaii and it also destroyed a number of telegraph machines - some even caught fire! Also, some telegraph operators disconnected their batteries and were still able to transmit, using the electricity induced in the wires from this huge solar discharge.

It was the most powerful solar "event" ever recorded.

The Sun is on an 11-year cycle, marked alternately by high sunspot and high coronal discharge activity (discharges frequently occur during low sunspot activity). Some NASA astronomers have predicted the upcoming low sunspot period (which we are actually already in now) of the current cycle could cause a similar event to occur.

There is a lot more technology now then there was in 1859, our communication satellites, terrestrial microwave system, power grid and even our computers would be severely damaged by a repeat of such an event. It is being taken seriously enough that communications and power companies are already making preparations for it.

So 2012? No worries here. But for 2013 I'm digging my steel-lined bunker and putting my cherished LINUX workstation inside it.

And of course the mandatory aluminum foil hat!

I Think it is a matter of belief. If enough people believe it is going to happen then it most likely IS going to happen according to law of attraction. So stop believing that and nothing is going to happen. Its going to be my wifes 26 th birthday on dec21 2012 and i dont want it to be screwed;-)

The Delta Quadrant - didn't you know that's a rough place?

      Seriously, though -

I live on the East Coast where hurricanes are fairly common (not necessarily direct hits, but coming close enough to require evacuation).

Some years are quiet. Other years I've had to evacuate 4 or 5 times in a matter of 2 months. It sucks.

Plus I live in an area where flooding is an issue, and we get some pretty nasty thunderstorms all summer long. It's always good to have a bag you can grab and go if you need to.
