Question to all you Amazon sitebuilders out there

I have a question for you. Do you mention Amazon in your copy when doing a review of a product?

I am wondering if mentioning Amazon is going to have your visitors just opening another browser window and going directly to Amazon without bothering to read the rest of your review and clicking thru from your link. I might be getting a little over paranoid about this but Amazon makes it hard enough with only 24 hour cookies even if someone does click through from our site links.

    Hi,
Nice question. I suggest you to set up the review page with and without the "Amazon" thing and monitor the traffic via "Google Analytics". This will help you to understand the scenario really well. Hope this helps...

      Hey,

The only time I mention Amazon in my site is when I link:

Find The Best Prices On Amazon.com

      or

      Read More Reviews on Amazon.com

Of course those two sentences would be hyperlinked using my affiliate link.

I mention Amazon in multiple contexts i.e. "Find the best price on Amazon", "top rated by Amazon customers".

In my experience, getting them is what matters. Sure your review needs to look and read well, but getting them to Amazon is what matters - you won't convert them nearly as well as they do.

I always mention Amazon in every product review I carry out and why hide the fact that, they're a good company who have built up an excellent reputation are the biggest online retailer in the world and are 15th most visited website on the planet. People trust this company and therefore I want to let people know where they're going when they click any of my links.

Im the same as the guys above.

If you think about it people are lazy, so why would they go to the trouble of opening another browser window then type in Amazon.com, then do a search for the product to try and find it, when they can just click your hyperlinked text link directly to Amazon.

Most laypeople don't know it is an affiliate link anyway, so really there would be no reason to open another browser window.

    Kickin it on Amazon

Amazon is only a store. Are you reviewing the store or the product?

Of course, you should reveal your affiliate relationship on your site.

Yes, of course I am reviewing products on my site that are sold on Amazon then linking to Amazon with my affiliate links. I'd be interested in knowing how you, how people are showing their Amazon associate status on their sites... fine print at the bottom of everypage.... on one page like the Terms of Service page or other.... in the margin... what are people doing with regard to this?

Looks like I have been doing the same as most that have commented here. Thanks guys... it's all great, interesting educational stuff. I am experimenting at the moment as I have a number of sites... so am curious to how others are doing it. One site is getting a lot of hits and some sales... the others not so much. The site getting the most sales is the oldest so that may be a contributing factor and does have a really good Google ranking.

The site designs are all similar but there were some small differences in how I had used "Amazon" in my reviews and in association with links to the Amazon site itself so was beginning to wonder if that was affecting click throughs or not.

+1 for this request... Even I'd like to know some responses (or best practices) on this one. Thanks

On all my amazon sites I let the visitors know that the product is available on amazon. With my links I tell them that they are going to amazon. Amazon has a strong reputation and people trust them, so I don't believe it hurts one bit to mention them.

    Sometimes yes, and sometimes no.

If I mention Amazon outright, it's usually only once, very quickly, and without linking the text.

That's just my preference and it seems as though it doesn't hurt me. I don't really split test the 'mentioning Amazon' test. Maybe I should.

No, I do not mention anything, I just put an amazon banner in the article.

Whenever I mention Amazon I like it to be right next to a link so that they dont open a new window and go there without taking my affiliate link.

e.g. CLICK HERE for the best price on Amazon.com
CLICK HERE to read the Amazon customer reviews etc

...I always try to be honest as well.

I don't say CLICK HERE for the best price online if I know the product can be found elsewhere for cheaper. I say CLICK here for the best price available at Amazon.
