What is Bum marketing?

That is the term for Article Marketing. It is called "bum" b/c you are so poor that you cannot afford your own website and so you use article directories to put articles with your affiliate links in it

It can be done by most people, but there will always be those who don't REALLY want help.

Instead, they make all kinds of posts asking for help. Then they get that help...and then make another post about how no one will help them.

So, they decide to start contacting people on Skype asking for help - expecting to get it all for free, but they don't REALLY want that help. They just want easy solutions handed to them.

In other words, all YOU need to know is that Bum Marketing DOES work, just about ANYBODY can do it...but it TAKES WORK, so you may want to pass on it.

I've noticed in this forum that ...

(i) people using the expression "Bum Marketing" are doing so with two distinctly different meanings;

(ii) their incidence is about 50/50;

(iii) both groups think that "they're right" and that others using the phrase differently from them are "wrong".

It's worth knowing this, because it helps to interpret what would otherwise be many instances of people talking at cross-purposes.

Half the people discussing this are referring to "direct-linking only" (i.e. not having a site at all, not even a one-page blog, in-between the article and the intended promotion/hoplink/whatever), and the other half are referring to directing the traffic to their own little site (with/without trying to build a list there).

The "original" version of Bum Marketing, from Travis (who invented the term and often posts here, and may well see this thread and reply himself, by the way ), I think, referred to "no website" and "using direct-linking". I think we can all agree that, to put it mildly, that was certainly a lot easier 5 years ago than it is now. (Not because of any prohibitions on direct-linking: those are easily circumvented by redirecting the link through a redirected domain-name, of course).

It depends what you're selling/promoting, though: clearly one's far more likely to be successful with it for CPA offers than for selling Clickbank products, say.

Having your own website (even if it's a one-page blog) is so easy, these days, that it's difficult to see much "advantage" in not building an asset-based business, rather than simply doing a constant "rinse-and-repeat" and depending on other people's sites for your traffic. So in that sense, the question's now become a little "academic", perhaps. It doesn't matter whether the original version of "bum marketing" without a website does still work, because nobody much would want to do it that way anyway: you don't need to put yourself under that sort of disadvantage any more when you can have your own little site in an hour without spending a penny on it.

Sid, I find it remarkable that one of the greatest research tools ever invented in the last 100 years, is at your finger tips and yet you continue to restrict your one line questions to the WF.

The knowledge contained there won't cost you a dime and will be extensive. Many free reports and articles out there to fill your head with knowledge. Oh yeah I forgot one other place and it's called the search function here on the WF.
You will be able to find 100's of answers about "Bum Marketing".

Then you can copy and paste these answers into your own tickle file and store it on your hard drive. And then all you have to do is actually start doing the work.

Oh you guys are so insightful... I never new there was a product / author who invented that term for their product branding.... Surprisingly, the term has gained wider meanings like I have seen people were using it to refer to Article Marketing

It's a reference to homeless bums since it's supposedly so easy any bum could do it.

Bum marketing is marketing that can be done without any investment, so essentially a bum could walk into a public library and start making money

It usually consists of article and video marketing for affiliate products

Bum Marketing is what I first tried. 1) find a Clickbank product, 2) write an article, 3) watch the money roll in.

Some how in theory it works but somehow in reality it didn't. The good thing was it was a free download and also putting it into practice was free!!!!

This is another term for article marketing. It's the cost-free way of marketing which could possibly make sales if done correctly. Although I would advist that you don't send traffic straight to an offer when your doing it. I would develop a web 2.0 site like squidoo lens or hub page and then I would send traffic through bum marketing and on my web 2.0 page I would lead them to an affiliate offer. You have to have a patient mind when it comes to dealing with prospects.

It was suppose to be super easy. Yeah, even a homeless could do "bum" marketing using "his" computer from the public library, but it not the reality that we see.

The guy in the photo looks like "jobless joe"; he is always talking about how he was a pow in nam. A cop told me that "jobless joe" was never in any military service.

I think the misconception is that you can be a "BUM" and still make money.

But in reality you have to work your "BUM" off to see success.

"Bum marketing" is not article marketing. Bum Marketing, simply put, is just using free methods to make money online, including article marketing. That's it. Besides article marketing, you can use videos, social networking sites, blogging, posting offers on free ad sites, etc. Using only free methods to make money online is Bum Marketing.

Also, I don't think that Bum Marketing is really hard. It just requires a lot of a person's time, more so than someone who is investing money into their marketing endeavors when starting off. But with patients and tenacity, I think that a person can succeed.

The idea with bum marketing is, if want to start earning money online but you have little to no start up capitol, you can use Bum Marketing to start you off. Then when you start to earn money online from you efforts, you then invest that money back into your business.

Bum Marketing consists of submitting original pieces of content to websites reviewing products or services. When visitors click on an affiliate link in the author's biography and make a purchase, a handsome commission can be made on that sale.

You could probably give it a new spin. Make some videos of female celebritys with the sexiest bums rated from 1 to 10 then monetize them with a CPA offer. Traffic would be quite high I imagine.
