  • I am not very sure about this, but when I had to transfer an already purchased domain of mine( purchased from some other registrar) to my host, all i had to was to change the name servers of the domain to the ones provided by my present host.

You can try to do that and see if it works for you. I hope it helps.

Yahoo does not make it easy to transfer domains. Never buy domains through Yahoo. You have to call some company from Australia and I don't remember what else you had to do, but it sure was a hassle. The owner of the domain needs to call yahoo customer service (what a joke aaaaaaagh) or I think there are instructions somewhere on yahoo. He needs to click on help and search for how to transfer a domain then follow the instructions-if they are there.

You might want to contact Yahoo first. I tried to change hosts for a domain registered on Yahoo in the past and they wouldn't do it. I don't know that Yahoo allows domains to be switched, but I could be wrong.

They have to. Its illegal for them not to.

    Here are the steps:

    1. First have the seller unlock the domain in their account at Yahoo. Make sure they do this first.

    2. Then you initiate the transfer at your godaddy account.

    3. The seller will have to verify the transfer via verification emails sent to them.

This will take a few days for the entire transaction.

If I pay the seller via PayPal (verified business), and if he don't unlock it or response then? I don't know him. He is from USA and I am from Bangladesh.

Any idea of security for the payment?

In general, doing a registrar transfer is a pain in the you know what. Changing the nameservers ONLY changes the host and does not change where the domain is registered, please keep that in mind.

I used to work at a major registrar, here are the proper steps:

    1. Make sure your domain is unlocked

    2. Be sure to acquire the Auth Info code (sometimes called the EPP code) from the current registrar which in this case is Yahoo (which is a reseller for Melbourne IT)

    3. Be sure you have access to the administrative contact e-mail address listed on the public whois record for the domain. If you don't know where to find the whois information, simply go to a site like who.is or dnsgoodies.com If there is a privacy setting turned on for the domain name, be sure to turn it off as most privacy services do not correctly allow the e-mails to get through.

    4. Once all of those things have been done, initiate the transfer at the new registrar (in this case GoDaddy)

    5. Once you initiate a registrar transfer, an e-mail will automatically be sent to the Administrative Contact e-mail address listed on the public whois profile. It can only be sent to the this e-mail address, which is the e-mail address listed AT THE TIME THE TRANSFER WAS INITIATED in accordance with ICANN guidelines. If this e-mail address is wrong, you will have to cancel your transfer and start over. This e-mail contains a confirmation key that you require along with the auth info code in order to confirm the transfer to the new registrar.

    6. Once you have the auth info code and the confirmation key, you must confirm the transfer of the domain name at your new registrar (in this case GoDaddy)

    7. Once confirmed, the transfer will be complete within 5-7 days in accordance to ICANN guidelines.

    Hope this is helpful.

    Best Regards,
    James
