Experienced Warriors, Is This a Good Idea?

Hello,

I changed the main page for blogflippingfool dot com to a plain squeeze page. On the bottom is a link to the original sales page. Is this a stupid move? I was thinking about putting a video above the fold. Could anyone take a look and give some feedback? Too amateurish, too plain, bad headline? I am looking for some ideas.

    Well,

I would run a test by running one version for two weeks, and the other for two weeks and compare the results. Which everyone pulls better wins!!

    TomG,

It's way too generic for my taste... it didn't give me any specific reason to join.

I know millions are being made online... and I have seen a thousand of these 'I'll teach you how to do it' type of offers.

What makes your free report different than all the rest?

If you gave a good quick description of what you teach, (Flipping Blogs) I would be more interested in joining to see the free report.

To be honest, I liked your original home page much better than this simple squeeze page.

If I were you, I would simply add your 'Free Report' optin box to your original homepage, above the fold, instead of seperating the two squeeze page/sales page.

Your original sales page has all the info needed to decide whether or not to join your list, try your free report, and then decide whether or not to purchase.

If you have your heart set on seperating the two, I would basically make a 'clone' of your sales page, remove the purchase links, and add the opt in free report (above the fold, and at the bottom where the buy now button usually is)

Hope that helps you out some.

I don't know what benefits you should list because I don't know what you're actually offering (without reading the report it'd be hard to say).

As a potential subscriber myself I wouldn't sign up without knowing what I'm going to learn from your report. And as someone who's on alot of different lists already (as most of your subscribers will be) I don't hand over my email address lightly so you'll need to put your copywriting skills to work (or someone elses).

I like the idea of using a squeeze page, but as Jared said, it's too generic.

Here's an example of one that I think is good: Building a List With Value - List Building Truths

Maybe a video squeeze page where I talk about blog flipping and tell them that the free ebook will show them the program in action on a live example.

I really like the idea of a video squeeze page... here are 2 examples I just found real quick that I like:

            Hi,

I agree with alot that has been said already above.

Personally, I would get rid of the millions has been made line to spammy and not specific.

Do some research on (USP) unique selling proposition. What is it that makes your course unique.

            Uniqueness is what sales!!!

Something like "Discover how to flip blog and make money in just 24 hours . . . fast!"

But don't try and guess what your USP is, ask your previous customers.

Ask your customers you already sold to what is it about your system it is that they like and what convinced them to buy . . . and then put that into your headline. That is your USP.

            Later,
            Terry

              Hi,

              Another thing I forgot.

Are you giving away the ebook to build your list? I'm guessing you are. I didn't notice you mentioning your newsletter on the page.

So, on the button or right below it I would say "click here to get your free ebook and free subscribtion to my making money in 24 hours newsletter."

              Terry

That's good feedback Jared. So you think I should put the opt-in right after the first two statements before my "story section"? Then put it at the end? Thanks.

    Anarchy,

Are you saying that you want the squeeze page to be a blog? Or are you saying that the original sales page needs an explanation of what blogs are? The idea of the sales page being a blog is an interesting one. No, I did not put this on CB yet, I am trying to setup RAP so I can give affiliates a cut of the video upsell and membership site.

I think you need to make the squeeze page a bit more grabbing.

Many people out there don't like giving their email addresses away, so if your page made it hard not to ignore - then a squeeze page would be a great way of building your list.

However it is VITAL you make the squeeze page compelling and appealling (a well made video could do this -- and I highly recommend fellow warrior Chris Willows services over at killersalesvideo.com) otherwise you could end up losing a whole load of traffic.

    Hope this helps,

    Daniel

Get rid of that link at the bottom... it's leaking traffic, maybe not leaking it off-site, but it is certainly giving them extra action steps away from opt-in.. and have the video above the fold.. problem solved

    Peace

Right, getting people to build and sell websites if they've never done anything online is probably not the best idea, thanks.

I will first try with a video I create to see if people find me and my message appealing or offensive

So you are saying squeeze ok without site link and with video? OR Fix main page up with video and use opt-in above fold and at bottom so people can get a sample if they are on the fence?

Shockingly, the very plain and rudimentary opt-in page I put up as a placeholder on my main domain seems to be outperforming my original sales page with the floating popup opt-in box. Now I have to qualify this by saying that traffic coming from the WF seems to be unaffected. Traffic from PPG Google seems to like this better and classified ads on other forums also like this plain page better. Either it is a fluke, or the sample is too small. I wonder if video on a plain squeeze page will be even better. I am working on that to try and deploy it tomorrow.

I hope that others share your view. I will now work on the video on the sales page. BTW, I cannot believe how much time it took to get 38 seconds of video right! You would really laugh at the outtakes

Yeah, I share the view (calm and collective). Sometimes I watch a video and if it's too in yer face - I click off. HOWEVER, IF you were to do it again, I would perhaps add a little more excitement to what you're offering (perhaps a smile here and there?)

Regarding the outtakes... I here ya bud - I put a video series together a while back and I think I ended up having over 2 hours of footage of me messing my lines up! Hilarious when you watch yourself (cringing sometimes too)

Yes to the cringing, I don't like seeing myself on video, maybe others like it. I see what you guys are saying, I was just trying to be conversational and not obnoxious. Perhaps I can kick it up a notch without the "BAM!" I don't want to be the next Oxi Clean guy (US joke).

Exactly, I like the laid back approach and it really works for you...especially if that is your personality. I'd just like to see a little bit more enthusiasm.
