I am looking to start a membership site but am unsure which is the best script to use.
I want to be able to:
  • Offer limited access without joining.
  • Free initial membership.
  • Paid upgrade option in the future.
  • Paypal integration.
  • Autoresponder integration.

Which is the best script offering these facilities at the lowest possible cost.
Standalone or through Wordpress

  • There are a LOT of membershipsite scripts that can do that..

    You could use:
    - Wishlist member (plugin)
    - Profits theme (theme, obviously)
    - Optimizepress (not sure if this one can do that all!)

Just google it and you'll find them
  • I'm looking for pretty much the same thing, just with wordpress support if possible.

    • One more thing that I forgot to add in the initial post.

I would also like the members to be able to pose questions and supply answers for other members questions.
  • Wishlist member plugin for wordpress is probably the best investment you will ever make if your looking at making full blown membership sites. You will not regret the investment let me assure you

    • I'll look into it thanks. I always wanted a wordpress membership site.
  • Hi,

So you're looking for a membership script self-hosted on your own web server.

Before you decide and follow any recommendation you see here, please make a comparison.

There are 3 Best In The Market WP Membership Plugins :

    1. S2Member ( s2member.com )
    2. YourMembers ( yourmembers.co.uk )
    3. DigitalAccessPass ( digitalaccesspass.com )

Once you've compared all these 3 above and seen their features, then start to check out others. You'll definitely be coming back to the 3 again.
  • Woo themes/elegant themes + Wishlist Membership plugin is the best combo
  • It depends on how detailed you want the system to be..

    For example:

OfficeAutoPilot.com allows you to run a membership site in wordpress, take payments, do email marketing and customer management. It's a full system, but can be expensive.

OptimizePress.com is a good sales and membership site that integrates with paypal, aweber etc.. but it's like sticky tape, it keeps things together, it doesn't do it itself..

It all depends on what you are looking for..

    • Some things you have to also consider.
What payment system will you be using?
Do you want to use a self hosted affiliate system (built in?) or use a 3rd parties like clickbank?
Do you need to issue coupons?
Do you plan on growing the technical needs beyond those you already requested?

  • I've had Wishlist and Digital Access Pass.

DAP wins hands down. You can't even compare them.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I use wishlist on some of my sites, as I find it simple to use.

However, I am building my new site with DAP because it offers a built in affiliate system as well as a one-click upsell tool.

I also use flexsqueeze for the theme, but that's not important.

My clients use optimizepress and this gives a great clean look to the sites.

As suggested, first make a list of the features you want, and then work out your sales funnel.

  • Hi,

I use and recommend Wishlist member, DelMEM (integrates with Delavo - payment and affiliate system) there are no limitations I've come across by using these.

  • I use amember on all my sites.

    BEst one by far.

  • Since youwant WP integration I would suggest DAP as yourbest option in an overcrowded market.

    Dave.

  • First, make a list of the features you want. My list includes the ff:

    Free initial membership
    Profits theme
    Paypal integration
    Digital Access Pass
    Wishlist member
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I also use and recommend WishList Member. I'm about to integrate it with Delavo on 2 of my sites. Out of all the membership scripts I've used over the past 8 years WishList is hands down the best in my opinion. Combine this with Delavo and you literally have the perfect online business management system.
  • Dennis,
Traindom is perfect for this and matches all of the criteria (and more): Information Marketing Business in Minutes - Traindom

You can offer free trials (you set the period), very flexible price plan creation tools (can offer multiple prices at the same time), integrates with PayPal and many autoresponders.
  • Building your membership site using Joomla and plugins like AEC and Autoresponder should do the job for you. Best of all, they're free/GPL!
