must be permission problem, if you have a server access change the path to somehing like nobody.nobody where nobody is the owner and group is the owner, but make sure your httpd/nginx is running on that user, also make sure it is group/user readable writable

    here is a simple command

    chown -R nobody.nobody path
    chmod g+rw path/ -R

    hope this helps

Just finished dinner with a few glasses of wine, so am not going to bother trying to figure out what you have done or not done (beyond me right now). So I will answer this way. There are two ways to upload a theme -

    1. If you have a zip file, log in to your wp admin and go to themes. You have the option here to upload the zip file and install the theme. I am guessing this is failing for you.

    If so then ...

    2. Unzip the theme first. FTP into your account using a FTP program like Filezilla (it is free). Find the public folder .... keep going until you find your themes folder (hey, can't remember which folder it is in ... just poke around ... I think it is wp-content but it is amazing how a nice glass of merlot can daze a few memory cells). Upload the folder containing your files, login into WP and activate your theme.

Basically, if you can't upload in Wordpress, FTP the files yourself. If you can't FTP the files, upload using wordpress.

i actually uploaded from my admin panel on wp. im also guessing its a permission problem [i googled possible answers to my problem and most answers has to do with the permission thing]

but the truth is i lack the technical know-how on this issue. please is there a way i could get a simpler step by step action guide?

      i really appreciate your replies.

I would say it is a permission problem.

I had this issue with a clients website not so long ago. A good way of testing this is to try and install a few plugins aswell or upload some media files to your uploads folder. You could also try and do an update for either WP or a current plugin is possible.
        what plugins should i install
i have done the updates for wp

but im still getting the same error

i have tried to install the theme through ftp, when i got the same error message i deleted every file and did a re-installment through the admin panel and im still stuck with
"The uploaded file could not be moved to /home/..../public_html/....com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08."

If it's a theme you're uploading, then it needs to be uploaded
into the themes folder within wp-content, not the uploads
    folder.

    i.e. /home/..../public_html/....com/wp-content/themes/

    NOT /home/..../public_html/....com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08

Alternatively, if you have the zip file for the theme, you
can install it via your WP-Admin area by going to...

Appearance > Install Themes > Upload and then Browse
to the zip file on your computer and press the Install Now
    button.

    I hope that helps you.

i actually uploaded to home/..../public_html/....com/wp-content/themes/ and not the other way round.[typo error]

i have also done the alternative you suggested. it has never failed me before but this theme is something else.

im hoping to get through using the change permission technique but i just dont know where to start from....

thank you all. im still hoing to get the answer resolve here

I'm sure it's different for different versions of Windows, especially xp

I didn't open the zip. I merely changed permissions. Follow the advice in the link I put in the post for XP instructions.

Have you solved the problem yet?

If not, I always upload bought themes using Filezilla.

Start by unzipping the theme and saving it on your computer. Then use filezilla to upload the unzipped theme to your theme folder.

When you unzip the theme, check so see that it hasn't created a folder within a folder on your computer such as mytheme/mytheme/subfiles

If it has you need to upload mytheme/subfiles to your themes folder.

If you're still having problems, give me a shout. I'm at home and happy to jump on Skype and see if we can sort the problem.
