What do you think of this idea?

I was thinking of creating an online directory of marriage guidance counsellors targeting states/counties/cities.

The listings would go on the bottom half of each page and at the top half of every page I was planning on promoting one of the "save your marriage" ebooks.

I'd write a small paragraph above the fold with something like..

"Before spending money on a marriage guidance counsellor you might like to read (name of ebook) etc...."

What do you think?

Just make a good banner or a video to present your product.

Could work, are you going to scrape the info for all the marriage counselors?

I was planning on contacting marriage guidance councellors and asking if they'd like a free listing.

Not sure about a video, I was thinking something less "salesy".

"Marriage counselors + City or State" would likely list Google local listings. I don't know how much traffic that captures but I'd imagine it's 50% or above.

Have you done any keyword research? It just seems like there wouldn't be much traffic there- but I haven't looked into it. Many niches end up surprising me.

Another issue I see is the amount of work involved. If you plan to rank for multiple cities/states you'll be doing a lot of research. Just a couple things I'd think about. Of course if the numbers are there go for it!

I've done quite a bit of keyword research and although there's not a great deal of search volume for the main keywords, people will be searching for state and city keywords even though Googles keyword tool doesn't show any searches. I know this from other niches.

I'll be running some PPC ads first to make sure though.

I like the idea, you could do very well with it

I actually had a similar directory concept in a different niche.

Here's some tips from my experience:

Add as many marriage guidance councellors to your directory as possible (without contacting them).

    Then delete one.

Then contact the marriage guidance councellor you deleted and say something like

"Would you like to list your services on my directory, all of your competitors are already listed! Only $100 per year..."

Then repeat the process with every other marriage guidance councellor.

As you mentioned, you could then go on to promote affiliate products, or even contact each marriage guidance councellor and ask if they want featured advertising.

    Good luck!
