Hey everyone!

Well this is basically my first sort of real introductory post lol. I've been working in the freelance programming field for some time now and really am ready for a change of scene. So I have a fair amount of tech skills that i'm able to throw at a project.

A while back a friend of mine introduced me to internet marketing and I did dabble in affiliate stuff for a bit and promptly dumped a whole heap of cash into Google Adwords with almost no return. It sort of seemed that sales were becoming pretty difficult to make online and I was competing with some of the big names in overcrowded niches etc.

So pretty much after discovering this forum the other day, it seems that there is a whole huge world to internet marketing which isnt just hawking someone elses affiliate product. So i'm actually interested in creating my own product for sale in a good niche and seeing how that goes. Considering i'm a geek, I figured that I could design a piece of software and sell that.

So if anyone has any ideas on where to start developing an idea i'm all ears. From what i've seen alot of niches for software are WELL covered and id be competing with some very established products.

Cheers and Hello!

One of the best things for newbies is a coaching program. You can get it with Amy Bass at Thenicheblogger.com

Well that is where your creativity comes in... take a look around in various niches and see what people are asking for... see what holes need filled.

IMHO, before you spend hundreds on a coaching program, absorb some information just by looking around.

That way, your money is better spend on learning OTHER things.

    You've been a freelance programmer.

Did you spot any trends that people seemed to be asking for? A recurring theme?

As a programmer, you've got some definite advantages for product creation.

Think back through some of the questions you've been asked, projects you've been asked to work on, etc...

Scroll through the posts in this forum. A lot of people are asking, "How Can I ..... ?"

Can you create something that fills that need?

    I'd start there.

Adding to what Brian said, you may want to leverage on
your programming skills. Not everyone can do it. I can't.

You may want to start with a blog or site, giving ideas
for your potential customers such as what to look
out for when seeking a programmer etc.

Place an ebook for opt in. The ebook can be on "9 tips
to note when looking for a programmer" and can
    be around 15 pages.

Use that as the start of your product funnel and move
them up the funnel till you are managing their sites
for them for a recurring fee such as $47 to $97
    or even more per month.

    My 2 cents,
    John

Thanks everyone! There are some really good suggestion in those responses.

Regarding a recurring theme, the biggest one seems to be always requests from web masters/site owners for SEO and Marketing software/scripts. Thats a pretty heavyily covered niche...but it might bare having a look to see if I can carbe out a little sub-section thats not being tapped yet.

    Cheers
