UK Web Hosting - UK Reseller Hosting - UK Managed Dedicated Servers - UK Domain Registration Services

The support is utterly epic... i've never had to wait more than 10 minutes for anything to be sorted!! Seriously!

I'm on their reseller hosting and have never looked back (tried lots more incidentally).

I know its not a UK hosting but I am in the UK and use hostgator which has cPanel. They offer 24 hour support and I have never had any problems with them. They get stuff sorted out very quickly.

I'm in the UK and I also use them, Tristram, for many of my sites.

But they're no use for sites targeted specifically at the UK market which need to be hosted on a UK-domiciled server to get that boost in Google searches made from within the UK, you know?

I have one UK-specific niche, which obviously needed a .co.uk (or .uk.com) domain and UK hosting, and I did a lot of research (I mean really a lot) into finding the best UK hosting I could, and came up with a company called "Heart Internet", whose customer service has an outstanding reputation. I've been using them ever since, and happily recommend them. I'm sure they won't be the cheapest but with hosting, the price-difference between "cheap" and "expensive" is pretty small anyway.

    • We always use FastVision for all our clients.

Being a web design and SEO company we have reseller accounts at most hosting companies and have also used our clients hosting packages for upgradeds, etc and we like FastVision.

UK based, fast, good price as you can have unlimited websites on a normal package which means our clients get value for money.

Hostgator would be my recommendation - their support is awesome. I'm in the UK and they have a Live Chat functionality - every time I have any problem I go on to Live Chat and talk with someone helpful. On one occasion they had over 400 help staff online - you just can't beat their level of support in my opinion.

One time I messed my site up and they reinstated the site from a back-up copy for a very modest fee.

Mark, many of us agree with all your comments about Hostgator, but it isn't a UK host.

The point of these discussions is that when you're targeting the UK market specifically, you need your site to be hosted on a UK server. Google notices this and its algorithms adjust the position of your ranking on searches made from google.co.uk accordingly.

This simply isn't a facility which Hostgator can provide.

This is why so many of us (even the Hostgator enthusiasts like me) have separate UK hosting, if we're involved in a UK-specific niche, using a .co.uk domain-name and wanting to rank well on UK-derived searches.

See for yourself what Google has to say on the subject ...

Thanks Alexa I was oblivious of this.

My sites rank well in the UK using Hostgator so the question is 'how much better could I be doing with a UK hosting company and what do I have to trade off in terms of hosting costs and service to get that improvement?'

In the meantime, I will certainly take a look at your recommended hosting company.

I found this in another Forum from another Google employee:
Apart from SEO, I would look at it from a user's perspective. If your site is hosted in France and your users are mostly in France, then chances are they're going to have a great connection to your server (high speed, low latency). If your users are mostly in New Zealand and your server is hosted in France, chances are that their connection to your server isn't going to be the greatest. Google - and other search engines - assume that you thought about this and have located your server in the rough area where you expect your users to be, which is why we use the server location as an aid in determining the geotargeting of your website.

That said, we know this is not always possible and sometimes local hosting companies aren't up to the task of hosting a high-powered server with great internet connectivity. This is why we provide the option in Webmaster Tools for websites that use gTLD domain names (.com, .net, .org but also .eu and .asia).

So if you are using a ccTLD (like .fr) then you generally do not need to worry about the rest (outside of making sure that your users are happy :-)) because it's pretty clear where the users you are targeting are going to be. If you are using a gTLD, you can either use the server location or the setting in Webmaster Tools to give us this information.
