Best way to stream videos...Need help on this one, please!!!

I am soooo close to launching my first website and I seem to be stuck on how to stream videos on a web page through wordpress. I have 14 short videos in .mp4 format.

Someone please help....

I've tried uploading the files using an ftp client and as a result it takes over 3 minutes for a 7 minute video to load on the site.

Is there another way to accomplish this? If I have to, I'll use amazonS3 but of course if there is a free option, I'd like that too!

Thanks for any all input!

tim

AmazonS3 is probably the best and most reliable service. It's not too expensive either. If I know I am going to get a lot of views, I will put my video on Amazon, but otherwise I host it myself.

Yep. There isn't really a free and reliable service that does what you need .

S3 is perfect. It's very affordable, so shouldn't bite your wallet much.

      Hi,

If you prefer free video hosting to stream videos and your site is not a membership one, then you can anytime use YouTube and over 30 other video sharing sites.

That is one way to make your video viral and drive traffic to your site.

    dude, it's really simple.

    1. upload all your videos to youtube. If you don't want people to view them them, set them to must have link to view.

    2. download this: WordPress › Smart YouTube « WordPress Plugins

it will make it amazingly easy to put videos on your blog.

What you can do is embed them on your site. Which means you upload them to youtube, then get the embeding link and put it into your pages HTML.

Or post the link on a page. Youtube hosts your video, but it appears on your site for people to watch.

EZS3 combined with Amazon S3. SO much easier than messing with a bunch of video players or plugins on Wordpress. You create and manage all your videos in EZS3 and then add some code to your WP site. If you want to edit a player, you can do it from within EZS3 instead of going back to all the posts. I've been very happy with this solution.

Amazon S3 is a great way to store videos.

To stream them use Amazon Cloudfront:

    Amazon CloudFront

Many common players (like JWPlayer and FlowPlayer) will work with Cloudfront, and the costs are trivial.

If the problem is loading time then the issue is likely with the buffer settings on the player you are using (if it even has buffer settings) and/or the bit rate you encoded your videos at is too high... which if either is the case then focusing on hosting as the answer would be a mistake as it woild not solve your problem.

What you need to do is optimize your video bit rate and use a player that provides you buffer settings. Get those things right and you can load any video in seconds and have it play without buffer stutter.

If I've learned anything in my time on this forum it's that for video questions Josh is the man - he's definitely an authority on the subject and I'd advise you to heed his excellent advice.

One thing I did when optimizing my bit rate was to take my netbook out to public Internet access points - in shopping malls, on the train, in city parks etc. These access points usually have pretty poor bandwidth, and it was a good test to see how viewers with less than stellar Internet connections would see the videos perform. You may see it fine on your high speed cable modem, but not all of your users have such a fast connection.

      Just a thought...

        Thanks for the input!

I think I'm going to do the youtube idea. If i make them private, then only the people who have access to my site will be able to watch them. So yes for now I'm going with youtube, although I'll be looking into Amazon S3 for the very near future.

I just want to get this darn site up and selling asap.

        thanks again,

I would upload it via AmazonS3 or on YouTube and with some coding, you can make it look very plain (no controls or anything).
