Dark Side Of Google...

We love Google, but not all do. From class action and civil lawsuits and also not a lack of government prosecutions, the lawyers on staff at Google are always kept busy.

Some of the more odd lawsuits Google faces include a Japanese woman that sued Google for showing her lingerie on Google Street View. A shooting victim sued Google over search results on his name since he claimed it showed him as a criminal instead. A women in California sued Google because she was following Google Maps’ directions on her cellphone and got distracted, thereby getting into an accident.

Google’s also been accused of click-fraud, forgery (from Google Books) and using copyrighted images (again, Google Books).

Additionally, Google Streetview has taken heat from many countries in the European Union, India, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and more. If they allow Google Street View, they insist on lowering the height of the cameras and blurring faces, amongst other things. (Guess they don’t want to use technology to catch their criminals.)

some of these issues are legitmate breaches of google intentionally. like many of its issues with google books.

but i dont think for a second had malitous intent or probably even thought about catching pictures of someones lingerie via its google maps project.

i do think google will resolve many of these issues and comply with the blurring of faces and such. google doesn't stand to lose much by doing some of these things that will make people look more favorably at them.

as for their moto of "do no evil" i still believe they mostly try to follow that.

but as with any big company, you just cant please everyone. take the maps project. 99% of the people love what it did, but they get bad media exposure because some lady leaves her lingerie out in public view on a clothesline. seems she was not too concerned about her neighbors seeing her unmentionables, just not the whole world.

Well, don't misunderstand me, I just find weird the fact that people sue Google for their underwear! It's just so funny...

Some people are just too proud to admit their own failures, or maybe they hope they can get some money.

There is all kinds of stupid stuff happening - people driving into a pond, and then they try to sue their GPS manufacturer.

Google uses all kinds of algorithms, sometimes they fail, that's why you can report that.

If we just used technology that was perfect, we'd still be trapped in stone age.

I guess Germany is one of the countries with the most blocked images in Google StreetView. I bet that most of the people that blocked their own houses went peeping on their neighbors.

Yes I realise that and I've been making a good living off Google and other search engines for 8 years now.

I don't love it though, I use it. The reason being it's a third party and third parties change their rules to suit them as and when they please.

That's why I also use a lot of paid advertising and that's why I get articles and so on published directly in front of my potential customers on niche specific authority sites, ezines and now even offline journals, that's why I build lists.

That way I can use Google and still be in complete control of my businesses at all times and not worry about the many algorithm changes Google makes as and when it fancies it.

I love my business not an enormous organisation like Google. I like the way they make me money but as I said, I'm afraid I don't love them.

Well I started this thread, cause I found amusing the fact that people trying to make money out of Google in the most weird ways. When I say "I love Google", I mean I'm glad it exists and I can make some money out of it (in a not such a weird way like SEO, Adsense etc.). No I'm not going to hate it if i stop making money out of it, I'll probably find another way to do it. But I will definitely going to miss it if for a reason it will stop existing.

Things like this are more trivial and any company will face this stuff, but I do think one much more legitimate concern would be that of monopolization. I personally think Google as a company is just great, even the way it is, but the problem with a monopoly is that the company isn't always going to be the same, and having that much power over markets can raise real issues...

As with any business model, its never a good thing to rely on a single method. No IM'er worth there salt will rely purely on Google ranking.

There is a multitide of traffice generation methods other than Search Results from Google.
    Theres Yahoo for starters.

    yes we dont love google.
    we just use google.

cos google doesnt love you. and google is also using u.
the day u try to trick them or exploit any "loop holes" or go against their policies they will not hesitate to slap u and u are out of business.

they day you stop giving valuable relevant content you get penalized.

they day they change their policy without tell you and if u dont keep up then out you go.

So google doesnt love you, they are using u too. so why love google.
just use them if u can.

    haha

personally, i do love google. they are the best at what they do. me and many millions others think they provide the best of breed search function.

most people use their search function because they return the best results. in order to continue to do that in the face of all the spam content and shady marketing tactics used by so many people, they must change their algorithm fairly often.

yes that affects many marketers and their businesses in a bad way, but if they didnt adjust their algorithm, they would be replaced very quickly with another search engine that did adjust to the market place.

of course many of the privacy issues google has in front of them are more concerning to me, but lets face it, in todays world someone is always going to be collecting huge amounts of data on you. and that comes with risks no matter if its google or anyone else that has access to huge amounts of data.

Even mother Teresa had her critics. Whether these things are intentional harm or not can be argued, however whenever you become successful, suddenly you have a whole army of critics.
