I've been working on my blog for a few months now and I think it's pretty good. I'm also working on a couple of info products that I'll be selling on there.

The only thing is that I'm not happy with the traffic. Maybe it's me, but I revamped the entire site about three months ago and this month I've only had a little over 1,300 visitors.

I'm not sure if it's the content, or because the blog is still fairly new or if it's just fine for being only 3 months old after being re-done.

Any ideas about how I can drive more targeted, quality traffic to the site? I'm posting stuff daily and I use Onlywire for social media stuff. There's also a page on Facebook that I just started.

I didn't want to start monetizing it until I had some more content on there. Anyway, the link is in my sig if anyone wants to give me their thoughts. Thanks!

Have you tried making videos on Youtube? That's one of the best sources of traffic in my opinion.

Maybe make tutorials, review popular product, etc.

By the way, I like your decision about not monetizing your blog until you have some quality content.

    Good luck!

Really comes down to how well your content is being ranked on the search engines. If you are relying 100% on search traffic, then it all comes down to ranking for keywords that people search for around your topic.

Specific targeting - on-page, domain name, title of blog posts, tags, and backlinks - will all get you ranked higher for targeted keywords faster which means you will get more traffic.

If you don't specifically target, but generate allot of content, eventually that content will hit as well, but it will be more sporadic, haphazard and as such, take much longer to get the traffic ramped up.

Believe me - I have older sites where I used the massive content approach and eventually things started to really hit, but it took months and months.

Over the last few years my sites and blogs are now optimized much earlier around target keywords where traffic ramps up much faster - and it is quite relevant so conversion improves as well on things like list signups, affiliate clicks or sales of my own products.

Keyword Research! If no one is searching for your content, well, it won't be seen.

Google keyword and use the Google Keyword tool. Find keywords with high traffic and low competition.

Thanks Jeff! So I guess what you're saying is that I need to do better keyword research and make sure the keywords are what people are looking for and then make sure the keyword density is strong in each post?

It's not always the easiest thing to do with a site like that, but I will try to do more of it.

Here is what works for us. Maybe you can try these yourself.

    - PPC
    - Joint Ventrues
    - Articles (high quality)
    - CPA
    - Press releases
    - Guest posting on high traffic blogs in your niche.
    - Commenting on high traffic blogs in your niche.

We outsource this now, but I hope this helps you increase your traffic and sales.

Remember you want high quality traffic. 10 visitors taht are high quality is far better than 10,000 people just stumbling over to your site, not interested in what you have to offer. That is why our traffic sources work.

Test and track what works, and then keep doing that! Pure common sense really.

good luck, and god bless bloke.

Heya. it's where you're getting traffic and how.
Are you any good with SEO on your niche?

A good thing to do is you could JV with another marketer who's good at seo, he seo's your blog & you do the content, you go 50/50 on it.

Or another thing you an do is use social media to generate traffic, targeted traffic, targeted people for the niche you're using completely. It means that the people who're going to your blog are interested in your blog and are looking to buy a product.

Your content is really good, Steve, and it is obvious that you care about the subject you are writing about. Your design is clean and your navigation is pretty straight forward.

I have a similar site and I get a fair amount of traffic to it, but a lot of it is information so it doesn't pay my mortgage every month but it is a very consistent earner, and a very useful site to the people who visit there.

Here's a couple of things I can see looking at your site. If I am misinterpreting something, I apologize.

All in one is a nice plugin, I like it and I use it on every blog I set up. The titles of your posts are OK but they don't seem to be really pointed at any keywords that people looking for that information might find.

Some of your descriptions are kind of long. There is a lot of debate about how useful they are for SEO, but often (not always) they are what shows up in the search results. You only get about 160 characters in your description, maybe you could rewrite some of them to be a bit shorter and more keyword focused.

If you are promoting Canine Savvy as a brand, then using the pipe configuration in your title is a good idea. If you are not, it would be OK to use that space to write a more keyword focused title.

I did not look at all your posts but some of the ones I saw maybe could benefit from an image or two named and with alt tags that have keywords in them.

It would also be OK to use and H2 on your longer posts to split them into smaller sections for easy reading and to get a chance to put another keyword into your posts.

There are a couple of WSO's that have been run in the last months on how to utilize social sites to post some content on to interact with communities and to get a few links to your site.

Your site is a good one, it is probably OK to monetize it now if you like. It is nice and solid and has a good amount of content on it that is a good help to the people who visit.

Hey JMichaelZ thank you for the advice! I will take it and try to do some of the things you are saying. I also will start trying to monetize it. If you have any suggestions about that, I would appreciate it.

Is your similar site in the dog market? If so, maybe we could do some kind of project together if you're game? Some kind of JV project?

I am creating a couple of info products and have thought about maybe some CB products in that niche, although I'm not sure how well they would do. If you have any suggestions about that, I would also very much appreciate that! Thanks again!

    Hi Scrofford,

I'm going to try and not give you the same advice you hear over and over; however you have a site that people are super passionate about.

One - try and build a relationship with other pet sites. Comment frequently to the same 10 blogs. Your content is great so they will align to you, add you to their blog roll and comment back, providing some super strong backlinks.

2nd - and I will give an example because that's the best way. On Facebook create a fan page about something Dog related that is a hot button topic for dog lovers. "Like a Page Save a Pup" or "Adopt a Puppy". The closer you are to a topic the better you can find a passionate topic to start a page over.

I started, "Tiger Will Break Jacks Record" , I posted comments on the Nike Golf site, the Tiger Woods site, and a few other key sites. Fans saw the title and were drawn to it immediately. Now when I post on the blog - it posts on facebook and I get instant readers. I also now monetize this by offering "Facebook Fan only" discounts. Here is the site, and you can see the fan page in the right hand column. It's grown to over 3500 fans.
    www(dot)tigerwillbreakjacksrecord(dot)com

I will be adding more details about this project in my blog.

Lastly - install Google Analytics or some other tool and find out exactly what users typed into Google to find your site. Usually that's an indication of a lack of information on that topic, so expand on those topics and you will soon be an authority on that niche within your niche. Those posts will then high-light other hidden topics, and so on, and so on. Before you know it, you will be on Page one of Google for 13 or 14 niche related terms that you would have never thought of, and your traffic will reflect this.

Usually fresh unique content is an issue, but you have that nailed so it's just a matter of time.

    Good Luck!

Hey Steve, where is most of your traffic coming from now? Is it 100% from search engines? I have an ecommerce site in the niche and I'm going to be starting a blog section real soon. Maybe we can link up if you're interested.

    The website looks good.

I would also start monetizing it now.

As your next visitor could be a sale and your traffic will grow as you keep at it.

As others have said trying building a relationship with other people in your niche and the bigger blogs.

You can also try syndicating your articles in the hope they get picked up by some of the bigger publishers. Other than that keep on building backlinks and also branch out on to youtube which works well to get rankings on Google.

    Hi Scrofford,

Here are some tips from my side:

    - Optimize your blog post by placing accurate & descriptive tags. Also take care of navigation, accessibility & internal linking of the pages. There are several plug-ins available which actually makes bloggers life easy. Also, create a sitemap for your blog & submit that in to major search engines like in Google thru webmaster tool.

    - Be a part of Blogsphere- Submit your Blog in to Blog Directories & Search Engines. The collective community of all blogs is known as the blogosphere. To increase the back links, visits & rankings of your blog you should submit your blog into blog search engines, blogging communities & blog directories. Several blog search engines are used to search blog contents, such as Bloglines, BlogScope, and Technorati. Similarly, Several online communities exist that connect people to blogs and bloggers to other bloggers, including BlogCatalog and MyBlogLog.

    - Encourage Comments, Trackbacks and Pingbacks. Always support comments on your blog to increase participation & involvement. If anyone is asking something from you thru comment box then always try to respond them.
Trackbacks and Pingbacks also helpful for your blog as readers of other blogs may follow pingback/trackback notifications back to your site & back links increase the number of external links to your site, which increases your search engine rankings.

    - Comment on Other Blogs. Start reading others blog in your niche & make useful comments. Name box phrase will be linked to the blog URL that you enter. It is advisable to use your blog name for anchor text. Don't try spamming using comments that offer no value to the blog post. With this you can get the back links from Do Follow Blogs.

    - Participate in Forums & Discussion Boards. Join forums of your niche & actively participate. Always give genuine inputs which make sense & are helpful for others. Participation just because of marketing point of view can hurt your credibility. Do follow forums also helpful in getting link back from signature column.
In forums you also have an option to put RSS feed of your blog which will highlight your current post in every thread where you participate.

Apart from these, Content & Networking is the KEY. Write great content which are very unique & useful for other. Be a part of social communities.

    All the best!!

So do I, Steve. I think you've done it really nicely.

Normally, when people ask for advice related to a blog here, I have a look and feel I just don't know where to start with comments, because there seems so much that's wrong/questionable/inadvisable/badly displayed. Not so here.

I have only one Big Question: why no opt-in yet? You must be planning to build a list, with this, surely?

Good ... all the more reason to get the opt-in up now? (I'd put it where the Facebook thing is at the moment, myself, if you just want to put it up without getting involved in split-testing ...).

I know nothing about your niche. Really nothing. But am going to make one suggestion anyway, with my article marketing hat on.

If you can produce a much longer, expanded and entertainingly-written version of your article on "10 Human Foods Damaging To Your Dog", I think it would be possible (and maybe not too difficult) to get that really widely syndicated in front of targeted traffic.

I'm sure there are other subjects on which you can do the same thing, but that one sticks out as being so readable and curiosity-arousing. I have no dogs, and no intention of having one, and even I wanted to read it.

But don't try that until you have an opt-in, to "catch and not lose" some of the traffic you get from it!

(Or ... possibly ... you could write a PDF report on that subject, and use it as the incentive for people to opt in, when they get to your site? I think it might be popular).

If I have this all wrong, and everyone already knows all about that subject, or has no interest in it, then please excuse me and attribute it to my total ignorance of the niche!

Wow Alexa! Hearing this from you goes a long way with me!!!! Thank you so much! You are not "off" at all! As a matter of fact I'm in the process of creating an incentive product for an opt-in email list. If you are looking to establish some CRAZY traffic, here's what I would recommend!

P.S. My traffic increased 564.1% in 6 days using these techniques and I began averaging 300-600 views/day

    1. Facebook Groups:
Join many different, similar-niche groups and post updates linking new content whenever it's created. (Only post to 3-4 groups per half hour to avoid Facebook's "bad list.")
    2. Tweet: Tweet 3-4 times per day with a shortened URL to your new content. (Once ever 2 hours to not appear a spammer...)
    3. Forum Marketing: Answer 2-3 questions per day on a forum that is similar to your niche. This brands YOU as a leader and with a nice signature box linking back to your site, this can generate some nice, interested traffic! (If you are into online entrepreneurship like myself, WarriorForum is a great place to answer questions and receive some nice traffic!)
    4. Youtube Video: Post a short video promoting your new content to Youtube. (Seeing as Youtube is the most visited video site on the web, this can create mass traffic!)
    5. Tribe Syndication: Have your content syndicated thousands of times through a tribe and your content will easily get to the front page of Google--Which is a MASS traffic generator in itself. (I personally have my content syndicated to more than 700 different sites EVERY day using Tribepro. And it's only 10 bucks!)
    6. Article Marketing Robot: This tool will submit your new content to more than 300 different article directories! (This will boost your traffic ridiculously..)
    7. Facebook PPC: Although this can be costly, it can enable some INSANE traffic and good, quality leads! (I have a friend that is making crazy money doing it..)
    8. Blog Commenting: Comment on like-minded user's blogs. Simply put! lol.
    9. Tags in posts: Seemless as they may be, put relevant tags in ALL your posts. Search engines LOVE this!
    10. Google Keyword Tool: This will help you name your post something that will be searched thousands of times a month! (I have reached the 3rd position on Google's front page with this! Just Google: "The Perpetual Traffic Formula" and see for yourself! Living proof! lol.)

If you use these tricks for every new piece of content you create, your blog's traffic will increase EXPONENTIALLY.

Like I said, I use almost every single one of these techniques and in doing so, my blog's traffic increased 564.1% my first week..

    HOPE THAT HELPS!
