Apple Marketing - Rinse & Repeat?

Found this interesting story and thought I'd share it.

Prototype iPhone 5 lost in bar, right on schedule ? The Register

So what do you guys think, marketing ploy or history really does repeat itself?

And yep, I know that I'm now an accomplice in Apple's evil scheme, if it's a marketing ploy to build hype for the iphone 5. Oh the shame.

I actually thought this must have been a joke when I saw it. If it is true, I'd err on the side of clever marketing, either that or the people at the top of Apple are literally as stupid as they come....it really could be either but it does amaze me that I've managed to keep my Iphone on me on a night out but something as important as this and it goes missing.

    It certainly smells odd.

Apple is smart. They know what works, and it certainly worked before when someone 'lost' the iPhone 4 before it came out.

I saw that last night and couldn't believe it. How can this be an accident? They should ban all employees from bars. It appears that a couple of drinks in a bar turns them into idiots. Or is this advertising for them? lol.

Yes I saw this yesterday as well, and I really have my doubts.

My son did a work-study program at RIM this summer and was working with the soon to be released version of the BlackBerry. The security they had there was unbelievable - double metal detectors, searching for USB storage devices and shielding the building from cell phone signals to name a few. He was not allowed to bring any prototype out of the laboratory testing area, nor was any other employee.

Apple has a similar, if not even stricter, security policy in all their labs. The chances of the same stupid mistake being repeated twice seems highly unlikely.

Or maybe it is true - an indication that the company is going downhill since Steve Jobs left last week!
