Blog Necessary to Support Product?

I have a question to pose to the members here... do you feel it is necessary to have a blog to support your sales page and squeeze page? Or do you think it's better to submit articles to directories for higher viewing?

You need both. Ideally the blog can provide valuable information and draw traffic which can ultimately be directed to your sales page. And the articles should be posted to the article directories and then linked to the blog. The problem with linking directly to a sales page is that you'll lose credibility in terms of providing helpful and useful content.

It's always better to support your sales page with a blog. I have managed to get many websites to the front page of Google just by posting daily optimised articles on my blogs everyday consecutively for 3 months. Alexa Smith will tell you the cons of submitting your article to the directories before adding it to your blog, you should get the articles indexed on your website first, then post them to article directories for more exposures.

I always thought u could do it this way, but I have been told that u can not use an article in both places... that Google will devalue your site as duplicate content. True?

        No ... completely wrong.

This is just the standard confusion between "duplicate content" and "syndicated content".

If a very succinct but clear explanation of that point, from a successful, professional expert marketer will help to clarify it for you, just have a look at this post.

I always post an article on my blog first and have it indexed there before I submit it anywhere else at all.

As Suzanne observes above, having a blog can be good way of "keeping people coming back". (Having some sort of opt-in and building a list helps, too, of course).

That isn't directly the reason for submitting articles to directories.

Nobody would want their potential-customer-traffic reading their article in an article directory rather than on their own site/blog. Saying "I have a 25% click-through rate from XYZ directory" is just another way of saying "I lose 75% of my traffic at XYZ directory".

An article directory is a depository of content freely available for webmasters and ezine compilers to syndicate. This is the potential benefit, for authors, of submitting articles there: it's a stepping-stone to producing targeted traffic and backlinks from context-relevant sites (i.e. not from the article directory itself - that's intended to be only a "directory", i.e. a place where content-seekers/publishers can search and source content).

Thanks for making that perfectly clear! Great article too...

I use both and I add an article very few days - I first put it on my blog then I submit to ezine - seems to bring me some traffic but it is slow in coming from these sources.

Kepp at it and it will pay off - a blog also gives you credibility with your product

I always post an article on my blog first and get it indexed before I submit it to any other places. I don't post them all over the place at any rate, but no, Google does not "devalue" your blog when you do it this way.

Having a blog to support a sales page is a great way to get repeat visitors. Most people wouldn't bother to visit a sales page more than once or twice, but with a blog with fresh content, you can keep them coming back for more.
