I agree. I myself am a newbie in IM and I follow this same course of action. Yes, starting a blog might be slow but once you've established it, it's one of the most cost effective ways of earning online.

First of all: Welcome! Great you took the first step to be successful in internet marketing.

Like anyone else, you should start by reading, reading, reading. There is so much useful information in this forum that you should spent a couple of hours a day learning the basics of internet marketing.
After some time you will reach a point where you have an idea and think "I should try this method, this could probably work". At this point, stop the reading and start doing.
This is the step that makes the difference between 95% that don't succeed in IM and the 5% that do.

    Good luck!

    Hi

Information overload is the first barrier you come across.

I suggest you research and locate an already successful Internet Marketer and reads their blogs and reviews of them and their products till you find one that you like , that talks to you. Beware all the hyped products especially many on Clickbank and dont do what 95% do is keep buying the latest shiny object.

I joined an IM support community called SFM ( see the blog I am starting to write about it at kevanbutler dot com) after buying and rejecting many products.
I have settled on Stuart Ross and Lee McIntyre as honest ethical marketers and recommend them to you

    Regards

    Kevan

You already have a good niche to write about like cooking. But do more research on how to start. Forums and Google are your friends. Ask questions on this forum or google search your questions. It is amazing how much information your can get online.

I would recommend you to start out as an affiliate.

Pick one niche that you believe in and stick with it. Be determined and follow through and don't give up. You can choose from a wide variety of niches but the most important thing is to stick with your idea and follow through. The most common mistake that people do is jumping from niche/program to niche/program and, sadly never gets anything done...

    1. Keep learning and build your skills.
    2. Get help and ask questions.
    3. Take action and apply your training.

    Hope that helps. Good luck!

    I have an idea.

You're chef. You get the potential. I mean you can create product that relates to cooking, perhaps recipe or how to cook. Next, submit the product to clickbank and do JV with other vendor to promote yours and promote it to cooking forum(targeted traffic).

Since you're new, I recommend you to read some info about this or you can buy product(make sure to stick to the strategy) from authority people. Anyway, just to let you know that to become successful internet marketer required an effort.

I agree, looks like you can use your experience and knowledge of cooking as a niche. Then branch of other sub-niches such as - Professional Chef Knives (?)

But as for research, browse the forum to get an idea of what area on Internet Marketing suits you and then stick to it. The worst thing to do is flit from one plan to another.

You could always check my Signature link to my WSO, its got some handy info for newcomers.

    Welcome to the WF!

Been there, done that. The hours are bad enough, but what is brutal is being on your feet almost 100% of the time! Trust me, this is much easier in both regards but it's still going to take a lot of work - particularly at the beginning.

The first order of business is to get past the "information overload" stage and learn the fundamental concepts, terminology, and options available to you. One very effective way to do that, and completely free of any cost, is The Challenge

Browse through the PDFs and videos - in fact, that may be enough to get you up and running in a day or two - if you have a long weekend. Taking the entire course, doing a little bit each day, will only take a month or so. (I seriously doubt that many stop at the end of the daily "assignment" for the seven modules).

I don't consider this or any other course ideal or perfect, and some of the instructions in the Challenge literally make me cringe, but in the end they are relatively minor. The key point is to take action ASAP. That's the habit you need to develop right from the start.

What helped me more than anything was the time and effort I put into brainstorming - thinking about my strengths and weaknesses, my preferences, my interests, my passions. I wrote up a list of possible niches, and did a little research on the relevant keywords for each; and a look at what was available on ClickBank.

A few rational decisions mixed with completely random choices and I had the basis for my business plan, my business model, what I intended to do, how I intended to do it, and a reasonable estimate about how well it would monetize.

One other key point is that if you have more than one niche, only develop one at a time. That way you'll have income from each one soon after it is completed, rather than no income until they are all completed.
(There's a tremendous psychological boost once the money starts trickling in; you want to take advantage of that. Too much time and effort with nothing to show for it, and you start with doubts and second-guessing, and start making really stupid decisions to "fix" it. Experience can be a cruel teacher.)

Always remember that you don't have to do this alone. There is plenty of ready-made tips and advice in the threads and archives here, and there's always someone here 24/7 when you have a question.

Aside from your domain name and hosting, the only money should really need might be for WordPress plug-ins and other tools to make the work you need to do faster or easier. Stay away from the pixie dust and avoid Shiny Object Syndrome.

Since you're a chef, why don't you create book or ebook about cooking or maybe recipe book. If you want to create a book, sell it via Amazon. If you want to create an ebook, sell it via Clickbank. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Unfortunatelly, it's hard to give you one proper answer. But here's what you can research more about:

      • Decide what you know best (cooking as you say?)
      • Think how you can put all you know into product (video, ebook)
      • Make blog about your product and start getting passive income

Since you are a experienced cook, perhaps you should create a blog using wordpress to share your techniques in cooking.you can write articles send to article directories and also create your own e book teaching people how to create a simple and delicious dishes.so you would need a domain name, hosting account and auto responder to follow up on your subscribers.

First of all, welcome to the wonderful world of internet marketing! Secondly, it can be very frustrating sometimes.

My advice: Find a niche. You're already a chef so play off of that. You can write a short report on your top 10 favorite easy to prepare entrees and include the recipes.

Build a one page website around your product. Get an autoresponder. Put an optin form from your autoresponder on your one page website. Give away your report to people who come to your site in exchange for their email address.

Drive traffic to your page. You can start a blog about cooking and get traffic that way. Post helpful things of forums relating to cooking. There are a number of other ways to drive traffic.

Once you have a sizable list, you can promote affiliate products to them. OR you can create your very own product on how to become an amazing chef or something like that.

Good luck. You are in the right place to learn about internet marketing.

The trick is to come up with something different in your field. Something that your target market will be "hungry" for. (sorry, couldn't resist the pun)

There are a LOT of cookbooks out there, so not sure that is a good way to come up with something unique. I like the kitchen knives idea as a sub market. How-to guides on choosing knives, sharpening knives, etc.

    Here are some other ideas:

The Ultimate Substitution Guide - what do you do when a recipe calls for sour cream and you are out or allergic? You could set up a resource site that lets people figure out what can substitute for what. Lots of long tail keywords.

Arthritis Cookbook - arthritis can be less painful by eating differently. For instance, tomatoes are thought to aggravate arthritis. You could set up different cookbooks for various health conditions.

So there are a couple off the top of my head. I do have a 300 page "Internet Marketing 101" e-course I am beta testing. If you want, I could give you a copy if you would review it for me and give me a testimonial.

Just PM me if you want a copy and let me know if you want a Windows, Mac or Linux format.

I think one think you should avoid is getting sick of information overload... for it will make you stick around for years without making any dime online...
#the truth is that there is money to be made on the net...: you just need to know where to get started...

use what you have and get started with what you have s....
1- Just learn some few basic about website building an blog... You don't need to go through the scripting for there are softwares like NVU that can help you getting started building website very quickly... and talking of website you will need a domaine name and hosting... i advice you to go for cooking niche for you have knowledge there (it will help you build list by providing free and valuable information.... ) and also post on blogs for traffic... (do not think of the money yet) think on how you can help others ...
2- create a clickbank account for there i think is the easiest path to start affiliate marketing....
3- learn about list building and provide your list with real tips on receipts (cooking)
4- give the recommendations (if what you shared with them helped them and you have build trust and positioned yourself as an expert in the niche and someone who is not after their money...talking to your list ) they will take your recommendations at heart... and can then buy your product (clickbank product you will be promoting)
    ..

if you need more help on these steps pleas PM me.. i will then write a free report and sent to you will all the guiding steps in details related to the cooking niche...

As said above, find a method and focus on it. This means that you will have to take time and look around.

Do not allow those who promise you "30k overnight" pull you In. You will need to do work in order to do well.

For now I would suggest you search a method that you believe will work for you. CPA should be

a good start. Go to the CPA part of the forum and check it out.

Oh ya almost forgot. With whatever method you choose to carry you'll need to put a spin to it.

You'll have to be creative and unique.

As a newbie, my current experience with learning how to generate an income online is confusing as well as exhausting because there is so much information out there. And to add to that some of them contradict each other, some call other tactics old fashioned and claim their tactics new. It leaves me wondering what really works? What's the truth? Which guru really wants to help "newbie's? Every guru claims to be making thousands or millions using the "exact method" their selling but when you buy and apply their method it seems to never be enough or they just flat out don't work. Is it me whose always doing something wrong?

I know there are people out there who actually make full-time incomes on the internet but where are they because I haven't found them. I'm really glad to be in the Warrior forum and I really hope that I can finally find good advice and resources. And hopefully one day I can be a contributor.

ROFL! The so-called "gurus" love to brag about their gazillion dollar launch day, but never tell about the refund rates that are equally outrageous.

Besides, those launches are hyped for weeks and have dozens of JV partners to achieve maximum sales in minimal time. I dare say 90% or better of them are pre-sold and completely swept up in the manufactured drama of the launch.

To a certain extent, it's comparable to buying designer clothes - you're paying for the product AND a premium for the label, the brand.

Haven't you ever wondered how they could afford to offer the laundry list of "bonuses"? Quality aside, they're all at inflated "prices" or "values." And if you pay close attention, their high-priced "coaching" or "one-on-one" is with one of their "associates" - an euphemism for hireling who may have graduated from one of the boiler room telemarketers to a cubicle and maybe, hopefully, a better compensation package than straight commissions.

Seriously, though, what you perceive as contradictions is more about the endless number of choices. Any of them CAN make money if you apply them properly. But it's entirely up to you whether you follow the more traditional route - content, SEO, traffic, product or service, etc. - or leap over them for the newer ones - viral marketing, social media, video marketing, offline marketing, etc.

In the end, these choices are as unique as the choice of niche and the keywords you're going after.

    Step 1: Create a product/service

You can learn the basics right here in a single afternoon or evening!

Then it's simply a matter of doing the brainstorming, researching the keywords for your niche(s), registering a domain name and getting hosting - all of which you can do in WAY less than two hours.

I think I can save you even more time: my time is worth more than the few shekels I might be able to save with some coupon deal to register a domain name, so I don't chase bargains.

Similarly, you only need to check the hosting packages at BlueHost and HostGator (and whichever other "fantastic" host will surely be recommended now that I've singled those two and not the other(s)).

You can install WordPress inside your host's control panel - it takes about 15 seconds. The default is wide open as far as security is concerned, so you'll need to go through the security section after you log in to admininister WordPress. With all the themes, plug-ins and customizations, getting WP set up may take more time than you think - or veteran users claim. Don't worry about ANY of this! You can fix it later. And that applies to doing a radical overhaul of your "look and feel" with a different theme - 99% of the time it will not affect your configuration (and those are usually some Mickey Mouse compatibility issue from older versions of WP).

Why belabor the point? Because once you have WP working the way you want, you can clone it from inside WP admin, and reuse it on another website AND change the theme for the new niche! That's an enormous time saver if you're going after dozens or hundreds of domains!

You may not be thinking big enough now, but you probably will once the money starts flowing into your bank account.

Lots of good suggestions here. I would recommend you start as I did. Don't quite your job. Start by building a simple website or blog. Since you know about cooking, it will be a good ideas to base your site on that, so you wont have much trouble creating good content.

Don't worry about making it perfect at first. Just build it and work on it as you learn and go along. You can always edit things and make it better.

I did the exact same thing and Ii was in the same situation. I had no idea about how any of these things worked. It took me more than a year to finally start making real money. Its a lot of hard work, but believe me, any one can do it, if you commit yourself and not give up.
    I wish you the best.

As others have said... there is so much information available thru this forum you could spend your entire life doing nothing but reading what others have shared. Don't get caught up in the "I don't know enough to start" mentality.

Do some keyword research on your cooking niche to make sure you have a keyword phrase that has good traffic but not too much. Find forums and blogs on the topic and get involved there. Comment and offer good advice and establish yourself as an expert.

Set up your own blog w/ great tips and articles for others to benefit. Offer a free report or newsletter as an opt in to start a list. Then keep those on the list happy while you develop your first product.

Don't go for a huge first project... a video series would be great as that seems to be a big interest these days. You don't need a lot of equipment... just a camcorder, lapel mike and good lighting. You could even do a onscreen video with power point and only using your voice.

Set it up as a WSO to test and get some great testimonials, then build your sales page, get product listed on clickbank, find some affiliates and launch!

On affiliates, you'll need to help them w/ sales tools like email templates, banners and ads, press release info, FAQ info, and reviews that they can modify and use for their own lists.

As far as your list... be sure and set up a good auto responder on those opt ins to capture the name and email and to ease the burden of mailing new emails to your new friends.

Remember, those on your list will be your friends... so treat them that way!

The first thing you should do to start is decide on a niche.

Once you have that selected google = "your niche" + forum and find a forum where you will be able to leave your signature link. If you cannot find a forum, your niche is to specific , either broaden up or change your niche.

Create a quick 20 minute interview (either by yourself or with someone else) and add that to a squeeze page... this will be your free gift that people will get to signup to your list.

You will need an autoresponder service - either mailchimp.com (free) or aweber.com (19/month) to create the optin form on your squeeze page.

You can use a free program such as goldwave to record audio.

Once you have people on your list... start promoting offers (affiliate product in your niche or create your own product to sell).

Hope this is a good start for you!

    Jbarros - Brad here.

Portugal - wow - fantastic experience right away - international chef etc.

Here is my advice for what it is worth. Number one - put your wallet away - no money spent now. I strongly recommend you study the landscape and learn what is available FREE.

There are some marketers who did it all without spending a dime on training or mentoring. They may have been unique but they did it and who is to say you are not as good as they are.

Anyway, check out Internet Business Mastery dot com. Jay and Sterling, in my personal opinion are primo for advice and instruction - all free. Their podcasts are in ITunes for FREE. They currently have numbers 56 through 135 available. Download them into your FREE ITune account and then listen to them to and from work, running, walking, shopping, etc.

I have listened to some two to five times. Every time I hear a new point - something important.

Take a look at Smart Passive Income dot com. Pat Flynn is terrific. He has a lot of very practical recommendations and a niche site challenge anyone can learn from. In less than three months he set up a money earning site ranked on the first page of Google. It only earns a couple hundred a day - but how many sites can you build? See the possibility?

I am in the Chris Farrell Membership program. He has a series that in 21 days takes you to a full blown website.

Buddy - I think you are sitting on a GOLD MINE. A chef in a foreign country! Wow. Imagine the opportunity that awaits as soon as you learn just a few internet communication skills.

Look around at the training. I would caution you to be very critical of any program that promises all kinds of profit overnight. Every ethical marketer in the business that I have studies says the same thing -- it takes 1) effort, 2) burning desire, and 3) time.

You may also want to look at Yaro Starak's blog mastermind program. A membership site seem appropriate for at least one market I could see you in offering training in special food preparation - Portuguese, Italian, French etc. There may be a real market for that - done right.

Hope that is helpful. Check out the free stuff first - it should spark some great opportunity for you. I have high hopes for you and wish you all the best. Cheers !!!!

I would suggest taking action! Don't just read about what to do but go out and try to do a few of the methods you find most interesting. Book knowledge isn't much without some hands on experience. Once you've got a good combination of the two working in your favor you'll be earning money in no time.

I agree,we should take action and see which one really suits us better. There is no point for us to keep on reading and yet we did not do anything.

If you expected IM would make your life any more relaxed or something, I'm afraid you'll end up being disappointed or frustrated. You should expect to work your ass off online (even 'ass offer' than your offline job especially around the beginning.

    BTW, welcome to WF!

I have some knowlege about computers been reading about several ways of doing passive income. There's so much information out there that I haven't got a clue where to start. Actualy it's quite confusing.

So could someone tell me how to start or how they started just to have an idea? Besides programs they use to create sites for affliation etc.

    thanks.
My best advice: STAY AWAY from all the info products, ebooks, reports, and video courses. Most of them are garbage and won't do you any good at all. Just get yourself a credible well-known coach in the warrior forum and have them train you on the basics of affiliate marketing. That's all you really need. If you would really like to know the secret to start making money in any niche no matter what all you have to do is set up a sales funnel- It's a no-brainer but it's a little hard work at first. Simply set-up a squeeze page with a free offer, a thank you page with your one-time offer, get targeted traffic and then have follow-up emails with high quality content to make your prospects like you and want to purchase something from you. Or you could ask them what they want with your autoresponder by surveying them and then either creating what they want in a report or video course you made yourself or recommending a service which already offers what they want where you can make a commission. That's all there is to it, nothing more. Hope that helps some...

If you need quick money, then don't be afraid to use service sites like odesk or fiverr if you need money now. You can get instant payments to your paypal account and start investing into bigger and better things later on. These service sites will basically get you off of your feet when your first starting out. I made my first sale on fiverr so give those sites a look in case you need some quick income.

Dang - Gary just said what I was going to!

Or just join the War Room for $37. You are going to get far more information in there than from all the hundreds of guru plans and schemes available.

I would go with building your own product rather than being an affiliate, but do make your own niche - Garland had some good ones with cooking for arthritis sufferers and the substitution cookbook, but there are plenty of others too - just look at all the programs chefs like Jamie Oliver have done (30 minutes meals, school dinners) and all the allergies out there.

You could have a separate site and book for those with nut allergies, gluten intolerance, dairy intolerance, heart patients .......

Do keyword research on cooking. I'm sure you can find good opportunities in healthy eating and healthy recipes. Anything that's related to being healthy can drive traffic. There are plenty of courses that can teach you how to start your own niche business but before enrolling in those, read lots of reviews. If you think you already have the skills, you can just rely on the forum to help you through. Once you can get one niche site up, you can proceed with the rest. Good luck!

Even though you say you are looking for something outside of affiliate marketing, you should know that cooking is quite a popular niche. It's also something you already know about and are passionate about. Given your work schedule, having a blog that generates residual income would be ideal for you since it would allow you to work around your own schedule. For this, I recommend Unstoppable Affiliate. In addition to the basic course, there's also an 8-week coaching program you can choose to take part in.

The only other alternative that seems possible for you would be to open your own PLR store where you write content (or outsource it) on a variety of topics and get ranked in the search engines. You could also take PLR request and/or run specials. There's also the added benefits of generating residual income and getting paid via Paypal.

    Good luck,
    Joey
