Help needed with relationship blog

Hi,

I have a relationship article (blog) website ... The site currently gets around 20k unique visitors per month (80k page views)... Majority of traffic is coming google with yahoo, ask, and bing coming next. Germany and the US are the top two countries.

The articles which get the most traffic are to do with love and relationships ... The audience is mainly female between 18-24 years old.

I currently have adsense on the website which is generating around $60/month ... I also have CPA offers on the website to do with women's cosmetics etc .. but they haven't generated any revenue (maybe only $1 / month)

The question I have is that with 20k unique visitors I should be able to make a bucket load of money right? So what can I do to generate more revenue from this site?

Note: I do not want to list the site in the forum as I may want to sell it later on and also for privacy reasons... but for anyone wanting to take a look I will PM you the URL.

Any help/suggestions would be absolutely fantastic!

Thank you,
Gerald.

    Hey,

Are you building mailing list? If yes, how many people you got in it?

I would write some email follow-ups then offer a product. This way you will not only create more relationship, but also more money that you could imagine.

If you don't want to make product, try to promote one as affiliate, from CB.

    Hi Gerald

I would test articles and ads, maybe they don't care much for cosmetics, find out what they do care about then promote that by building articles around it.

    thanks

    Dave

As a 27 year old female...I dont buy cosmetics online and I dont know anyone else who does either. You get such good deals on this stuff by actually going in the store. I bet half of your audience would click on ads for dating websites!

the short answer is to begin to build a list by giving some sort of free report or 1o secrets to xxx type of thing.

your offer needs to be have a high perceived value.

but you need to build a list so you can make all those visitors you get today have some value to you tomorrow.

right now, you are at the mercy of google. i would not be comfortable with that.

you need a list to help you make todays traffic have lasting benefits. not to mention, make yo more money.

You think this is a blog problem. It's not a blog problem. It's a people problem.

      Understand your customers better.

What are women ages 18-24 interested in? And why are you asking a large group of people, probably > 90% of whom are men?

Honestly, what I would do is take your AdSense income and use it to pay a female writer for a once-a-week column with photo and byline.

You also need to cobble together a survey to find out what else your readers like. One survey idea I've used to good effect with women is an Advisory Panel. Do you have active commenters? Invite them to join your Advisory Panel. People won't fill out surveys just for the heck of it, so give them an ego boost by inviting them personally and valuing their opinion.

Alert readers will note that an AP is the seed for your mailing list.

Without looking at the blog, it's tough to say exactly what the problem is. Just off the top of my head, you could be dealing with a few different issues:

    - You're getting a lot of traffic, but how long are people sticking around? If they're only there for a few seconds before leaving, it doesn't give them much time to click on any of the ads. Take a brutally-honest look at your site... would YOU stick around if you were one of your visitors? If not, that's your answer

    - Do your ads LOOK like ads? In today's world, most people are pretty adept at spotting (and then ignoring) ads. You might want to try adjusting the color, positioning, etc. so that they blend in (instead of saying "Hey! Look over here! I'm an ad you should click on!")

    - The cosmetics thing may not be what your audience is looking for. Just because I'm looking for relationship advice doesn't mean I need to buy more makeup You might be better off offering things like self-help books, dating websites, etc. Those are things that solve the immediate problem - and may result in higher clicks.

    Hope it all works out!

I agree with the above. I would never buy cosmetics online. They're easy to get in many local stores and you can test colors on your own skin, etc.

Dating offers seems a natural for relationship sites.

Some great suggestions there!!! I'll be removing the 'cosmetic' type CPA offers ASAP

I'm really keen to implement the list building approach and trying out some dating site ads for a week or so, however I did try eHarmony (via cj.com) for a time but got absolutely no takers?

Does anyone have any experience as to witch dating site offer converts the best?

    Cheers ....
    Gerald.

    Hey Gerald,

Here's an idea- Offer a guide about online dating. Use a catchy title like 'How to set up a magnetic online dating profile", "Find true love within weeks online- here's how" etc. Those are just off the top of my head, spend some time with this.

Then offer the free guide as an incentive for signing up for your mailing list. Have an opt-in box on every page where people will see it.

Within the report recommend the top online dating sites and use your affiliate link for them. See how that converts, if it doesn't no big loss you still have them on your mailing list and you can try a different offer.

    Good luck,
    Dan
