Personal Address in E-mails..

If you don't have a PO box or a business address, is your only option your home address?

Incase you don't know, I'm talking about mailing lists and the requirement of putting a physical address at the end of each e-mail.

Is there any way around this?

Have any of you had any luck using your personal address?

  • Why would you have a problem putting your address in? If you're sending business emails out then you need an appropriate address.
  • I've got a touch of the ol' time paranoia with that sort of thing.

  • In this day and age, anybody can find your address and probably get a pretty good view of your home from Google Earth as well.

    I've used my address on my business card, websites, email signature, and direct mail.

    The only time I've had to call the police was on my dates.
  • Go to this website mailboxforwarding.com and this will solve your problem. It's basically you use/rent the mailbox address. Well, I kinda too feel not comfortable to give my personal address and thats why I use this mailbox address. Hope you find its helpful.

    • Unless you're selling stuff illegally or intending to rip off your customers I don't see why you should have a problem.

      Sure there may be people who want to order a skip, or have 5 tonnes of manure delivered to you - but they could probably get your address already

      You know what to do if you really have a fear so it's up to you.
  • If you're living in a rented property or your parents home I'm sure they would not be too happy you're using their address as a place of business .

    I do own my own home but as a few above have said they feel a little shy of the internet, it's a big place and a few nutters do lurk out there so have personal details in full view is a little risky in my view. Things a little different if you have hired an office as a base to run your business.
    By the way thankyou Franz for the information it's worth thinking about if I was required for any reason to provide an address to put on my website.

    I believe there are other problems of mass junk mails (mailing lists are extremely difficult to get off); things of a similar nature attached to a private residence, for that reason I would'ent be using my home as an address on the internet.

    • That is a different issue to the one the OP has raised.

      If you're not even supposed to use your home in a business capacity - then you're already on the wrong side of things, so worrying about whether to include your address in your business emails is a secondary issue.

      One of the reasons so many people struggle with IM is that they don't treat it as a business and want to cut corners, do it just in their spare time - but want full time business results.

      You're either - IN business or you're not.

    I'm just hoping, because my niche is local, that I don't get random door knocks. .

  • I do have a PO Box that I rent from a local drug store.

    Not hiding my business - I have a business license for my residence from my town, but I prefer to have my business mail go elsewhere.

    This keeps people from "dropping by" to see me without an appointment and of course is a business expense I can write off.
