Newbie's first post - I need lots of help

Hello everyone. This is my first post on WF. I am a newbie who wants to get started the right way in learning online marketing. I am hoping many of you will share your thoughts with me. I was told that the WF was the place to go for help. Right now I have nothing - no website, no money, nothing to work with. What I would like to get from you is this: put yourself back in time when you first got started. What information do you wish you had had that would have made beginning your online business a little bit easier? What websites would you highly recommend that I look at to help me get started on the right foot? I'll take anything you can throw at me - web building sites, marketing sites, affiliate marketing sites, etc. Absolutely anything and everything you can suggest will be greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead of time for your time and efforts. Rick

You say you have no money. This presents a problem to answering your
question because you asked what I would have done differently when I
first started to make things easier.

I would have taken out a loan if I had to in order to hire a recognized
mentor with proven success in starting and running a home business.

This will save you more grief than you can possibly imagine. The learning
curve in IM is huge, IMHO, and doing it on your own can be frustrating
    and take a long time.

If you can swing a mentor, get one.

Ask for hard proof that this person is successful.

This would be my suggestion in order to get yourself off on the best
    foot.

    Hi Rick,

Welcome to the WarriorForum! (I wish this forum was around when I started ) You are in the right place to learn everything you mentioned. Browse around, and my first suggestion is to play around with the Advanced Search, and the Tags.

Here is a great thread to get you started:

the best thing that helped me was having a mentor to guide me through the process and around all of the potholes that can trip you up.

Sure it was my own son but I wonder sometimes how I would have made it without a good coach or a mentor.

Find one... you will find plenty of great people in here that will help mentor you if you show that you are willing to take some action and willing to help back in anyways that you can.

Look around and see what value you can offer to others in the forum and watch what amazing things begin to happen.

    Hi Rick,

    Another welcome to the WF.

Remember there is no such thing as a stupid question. (Although I shouldn't say that because someone will ask what color is the inside of the moon or how high is 43?)

The knowledge base here is tremendous. Take your time, read away.

    Welcome,

You are doing the best thing right here. There is all the information in the world here. Just watch out for newbieitis. That's hopping on new idea you find and then before you can even get that read you are off on another tangent. I think that's the biggest cause of failure in this business. People drown in information before they learn to swim. I know I have a lot of business ideas sitting on my hard drive.

So, the best advice I can give you is to pick a business model and go with it until you start to make some money and then expand or find something you like better. That way you will have some experience and a little cash to get your new thing going.

One way to get started without any cash is by "bum marketing". You will see it mentioned a lot in the Warrior Forum. But, like anything there are right and wrong ways to do anything. So, do your homework by going through a lot of the free info about bum marketing.

    Wishing you much success.

I agree with Steve and others that the Warrior Forum in itself contains a wealth of information, and probably can teach you everything you need to know for free - But, as Steven mentioned, a mentor or mentoring training program, can save you a LOT of time.

Sometimes the problem with the Web is information overload. Having more information than you will ever need can be a problem if you have no idea where to start, no structured approach and system to build from.

With no budget, I think the best place to start is to join affiliate programs and using article/squid/hub marketing (with social media/bookmarking) to drive traffic and sales to your affiliate link (i.e. you don't need to create a website or landing page.) Once you begin to make sales, you can channel funds into building a site (which is pretty cheap) and using PPC, SEO, and Article Marketing combined. (BTW, you can build a site for free with Blogger, Weebly, and many others.)

The guy that invented the training course known as Bum Marketing, Travis (also over at Wealthy Affiliate) teaches a very systematic way to do this. Highly recommended.

Best of luck in your IM career, and do remember to read as much as you can at the Warrior Forum, it's priceless...!!

    Hi Rick.
I'm also just new to this forum, but been into IM for over a year now.
Steve has hit it straight on the head here. The information here is fantastic, there are loads of great people that want to help you,the trouble is you can start to feel a bit like a kid in a candy shop.(After a while the room spins and you start to feel sick and need to lay down). The
best way for you to stop this! Is pick someone who is making it stick to her/him copy what their doing.Ask them questions. familiarize yourself with the tools you need. Then act like a horse with blinkers on.
    To your success.

Welcome to WF. One advice I can give is learn how to write articles or content for websites. Article marketing is free to start. All you have to put in is your time. Steven Wagenheim is a great guy to learn article marketing from. He has some great reasonably price products that can give you a head start and he can be your mentor. He has the first post on this thread.
