What would you do with a community site getting 5,000 uniques per day?

I have a 2 year old cake decorating community website I built from scratch.
(ning platform).
The site is just starting to make some money via adsense low xxxx per month.
I have tried selling ebooks but people on the community bash them and sales quickly fall off.
I will be creating my own ebook in the next 30-60 days.
I have never done any email marketing because I am worried it would upset my members.
I have over 15,000 members.
I also have a large Facebook following of 25,000 friends fans and likers.

Getting traffic has never been my problem. Monetizing it has.

    Why don't you try CPA?

Since it hasn't worked for you to sell something, in this case books, although the reason depends on many factors, I'd highly suggest you try CPA.

It stands for Cost Per Action. You can make money even if people don't buy something from you, but they simply complete an offer. That would be filling up some fields with their information or as simple as putting in their Zip Code. You get paid like crazy.

Look around WF. There's a section dedicated to Ads and CPA Networks.

    Good luck!

ATTENTION: Do you wanna make up to 100$ a DAY with 20 minutes of super-easy work?

It's never been easier. Send me a Private Message for details.

Were the ebooks that you had sold before good? I mean, did they have reason to bash it or were they just those types of people you get on forums who don't want to see any type of products/marketing at all?

If you do email marketing, you should just make it completely optional. For example when new members register make the option very clear if they would like to receive updates/newsletters/etc via email. For any existing members, just send 1 or 2 emails out to them asking them if they want to optin to a newsletter list.

The ebooks were crappy. I new it and I just wanted to make money.
      Now I know better.
I will be creating a really professional ebook in the next 60 days.

Since you have a great following of fanatics, you should write your own cake decorating e-book or have a membership site, new videos each month and charge $5-$10 per month for the membership and a $1 7 day trial. If your fans really like you they won't even think twice about about paying the money... (If i got all this great stuff for free, how good is the paid stuff??). However, you're gonna have to work for it.

    Hope this helps

I will be working on a paid membership in the future.
The problem right now is the cost to produce the content.
However it is in the plans.
I was actually going to charge 20 per month as just one cake decorating class is 50 -150

What is the topic of the community? Without this information, all of the answers that you get are just spaghetti thrown at a wall.

Put up some amazon products. Unlike ebooks the customer knows what they are buying.

In this case I'm sure that many would agree that Amazon is the way to go.

Problem with amazon is that the commision is so low.
I would almost rather not make money than make a 3 or 4 % commission.
However in a pinch it might not be a bad Idea.

I suggest hiring someone else to create the eBook.

Also, maybe ask your members what they would like to know. Do a little survey and you may be surprised the response.

I have two professional cake decorators interested in creating the content for the book
I will need to hire someone to write the sales page.
I would think with the traffic I get I could get 10 sales plus a day.
When I was selling the crappy e book a year ago I was selling around 15-20 per month.
It was a 40 dollar book and I was getting 1/3 the traffic.

If I were in your shoes, what I would do is pretty obvious, make a high quality Ebook myself and make a list than sell them or keep them to yourself. But I wouldn't start pop up or Adsense as you said it is a community. I would leave it to get higher reputations.

I agree ... outsource your ebook writing and sell your own product. You can use Clickbank market too for this.

Instead of creating ebook which is high possibility they will don't like, try using
premium content for very cheap $. Some kind of membership site, it will work the best.

You can use continuity with this, so kinda good passive income.

      Hi Kevin
I am lining up professional cake decorators to create 1hr long demonstrations o specific cake techniques.
I am thinking about adding 2-4 hrs per month of video and charging $20 per month.
The average local cake class is 50 per hr. Celebrity cake classes can be 150 per class.
So I think 20 is a good deal.
Just need to get the content sorted out.
I figure I can sell some ebooks and fund the content for the premium section.

Why would you create an ebook to teach someone how to decorate a cake? Surely a video course ranging from a basic cake to a professional cake would be a lot better, just a thought.

You should worry about upsetting your members with email marketing if you get their permission first via opt in. I'm sure you already have their email addresses already but ask anyway.

If you want to monetize your site email marketing will help. Also, get that ebook but out. If they're bashing it then maybe you should survey them and do some research to find out what kind of resources they'd be interested in then right about it.

It has to be relevant and of high quality to sell.
