Deciding the Profitable

The last month I've been writing an eBook about Making money online. It's turning out quite cool but I'll tell ya the biggest problem I've had so far is deciding how technical to go with it.

I mean.. I can lay out the basics for a newbie to make money but some seasoned IM vets will feel it lacks the "gems" but if I go advanced.. how advanced lol?

Do I lay out a complete formula all the way up to page 280 "Selling your fortune 500 company"

Is it only me who ponders such things?

Seriously I could have released this a week ago on eBay and made a bunch of newbies some dollars but through fear of not providing any value to the vet's I found myself writing more and more adding more steps up to a ridiculous point.

Let's imagine you're writing a book on article marketing. Do you go as far as teaching people how to spell and use a computer keyboard lol? Obviously not but you see where I'm coming from.

How do you decide when enough is enough? I can't seem to find the balance where a newbie will not get overloaded and vice versa.

It's difficult to be all things to all people with one product.

Write a beginners book. Sell it.

Write an internediate book. Sell it to your "beginners book" customers and others.

Write an advanced book. Sell it to your "beginners book" and "intermediate book" customers and others.

    Job done!

Just do this and skip the analysis paralysis step

One of my favourite phrases that - 'analysis paralysis'.

That's the way to go though in my opinion. If you try to cater for all levels of experience in one ebook you will end up going round in circles (and I'm sure we've all been there).

Identify your target market (beginners) with the first ebook and then you can upsell to them when they have moved on to the next level as Neil proposed.

[quote]I guess I fear not making everyone happy at the same level of experience.[\quote]

Your fear was telling you something - that you would likely need multiple products to cover all levels of experience.

Cool - now you can profit more than you originally thought!

I tell them clearly in the intro: I'm not going to tell you how to FTP because you can easily find that out on the web. And if on the other hand you read the first few pages and think "nothing new here", skip on because there will be higher level info for you later.

Newbies expect step by step and sometimes more but people who have been around a while should know that if they get ONE NUGGET from an ebook they have their money's worth. And if they don't know that you can tell them. Explicitly :-)

    You can have too sections.
Release the first part for Newbies
Then look at the response and the comments
Write the next one for the vets.

You could write an e-book catering to beginners, mid-level and advanced marketers but in the end you won't connect with anyone.

As previously stated target a specific market. Give the valuable content. Rinse and repeat...my (.01--deflation )
