DOH! Internet marketing lesson

I was looking for a new product to review on my web site, so I was searching around to find one I thought would be good.

So 45 dollars later I bought a product, and I wouldnt dream of promoting it to my list.

it was a pretty crappy product, and I'm not sure the methods would work.

And there was one method in there that I know doesn't work at all.

So if you are trying to build your business based on trust and promoting only good products, be sure to buy the product and actually review it.

Sometimes you will be out 45 dollars but you will still have your integrity and the trust of your list.

Do you really think every affiliate (say from Clickbank) would buy and try it out before promoting? It is a very good idea, but what about the practicality?

      YES.

It depends on if you're looking at a short term or long term business model. Are you looking to make $100 from a few sales or $5000/month from a list that trusts you?

Every affiliate marketing expert that has any pull makes it very clear that you should review every product before you start promoting it. It makes perfect sense to me.

it does get expensive, but if your in the make money online/ internet marketing niche dont you want your students to succeed.

If you are promoting crappy products, all the time dont you think it would affect your name as a brand.

I dont want my list buying crap products, do you.

If you do buy a good product and decide to promote it, you can easily make back your money.

If someone just walked up to you and said here endorse this product, with your name on it would you.

I'm sure you would want to know what you were about to put your name on is good or crap, Right?

I use to do nothing but affiliate stuff, and I have to admit, i sent out many emails that were promoting products that i had never even read the sales page. I have matured alot since then, and built a completely different list that I market my own products to. I do still sometimes do affiliate promotions, but I have never sent my new list a promotion that I personally do not use or have used in the past...

like it or not, that product says just as much about you as it does the creator if your the one sending it to a list of people that trust you.

I have been working on my product for 3 months now, that is with research and giving people what they want.

I am creating it based mainly from feed back from my list, but I want it to be a long term income, and not just a few sales then create a new product.

I strive to create value so people can earn money, and maybe promote my product because it worked for them.

If I am promoting crappy products they cant expect much from mine.

Thats a good way to think about it, and the exact way that i looked at it before i had a product of my own. I actually started by picking a certain "niche within my niche" and would put together a survey to get feedback from my list...

I would take the survey results and put together a product for my list and then give it to them for free and get feedback... then pick another "niche within my niche", and repeat...

before long I had some great stuff to create a product with some real value.

You can't realistically be expected to 'try' everything yourself first. Simple example: weight loss product, when you are very slim. (Could you outsource that?).

I do, however, agree with the overall premise of not promoting rubbish.

I have nothing of value to add here. But we can't let a signature go to waste now, can we?

I agree - it's a good idea to look up as many reviews as possible.

There's one way to circumvent this when it comes to affiliate marketing. Promote only tangible stuff?
