Keyword Research Tools

by Chris_Willow 12 replies
I've been using Seobook's keyword research tool for quite a while as it shows the daily search count for my keywords. I enter my new keyword and get 400+searches per day. I thinik it's cool, BUT I go to keyworddiscovery and get 4 searches and MarketSamurai gives me 0 searches...
I'm wondering wether to trust seobook or not...

Any ideas why the difference is so huge?

Thanks!
Chris

Most keyword tools use downstream search engine's for data.. and then multiply the number they get by the remaining percent of market share that the SE's being used don't have..

So if the data is from search engine's with 20% of market share.. they have to fill the other 80% with expected results, based on the data they get from the 20%...

Take from that what you will...

Just like Jay is saying...it is a guessing game. They are just making a hypothesis based on the data they gathered from other sources. So it is not accurate at all. The only way you can be as close to factual as possible is by using APIs that search engines offer and scraping...When building a tool for keyword research. So you will find many of them make up the stats based on a formula for guessing.

    Hi Chris,

Keyworddiscovery uses metaengine data (like http://www.dogpile.com/ etc.)and doesn't include Google's data. You can use Keyworddiscovery results to compare the ratio among different keywords, but not as exact numbers.

that is why its more often called " keyword research" cause you have to put some time into it .. compare results, change the keywords,

However ... i'd suggest http://www.keywordcountry.com" they are really providing cool data ....

and you can get the highest paying keywords list emailed back for your subscription ....

hope this adds to the thread ...

I aplogize -- I mentioned that Keyworddiscovery uses metaengine data - it's wrong.
I used to use Keyworddiscovery.com services a while ago - their figures bore the bigest resemblance to the real picture.

The one I meant was Wordtracker.com -- I always confuse these two...

Yes, especially since they've started showing the actual figures instead of just volume, https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal is one of the best options an average IM guy may wish!

Thanks for all the massive input!
I guess it comes down to using one keyword tool and comparing results.

          Heh.

          Chris.

I'm assuming that you are using Market Samurai without having watched Ed's videos.

Dude -- they gave a video showing how to do the research OUTSIDE of MS.

It's exactly what MS does, only by hand.

And it uses the tool most people here think is the best -- Google's own Keyword Tool.

If you aren't getting data with MS, the instruction is to try the same search "by hand".

If you are still getting zero data -- then the problem is on Google's end.

If you aren't, then you need to submit a support ticket with the Noble Samurai folks.

          Oh heck.

          Why should I bother?

If you can't follow instructions on how to use this great tool (MS) -- maybe I should just let ya suffer by doing it by hand, LOL.

I can't be bothered to watch 3 hours of videos
I am the lazy type of marketer and time is what I don't have...

Market Samurai returns all the results I want except there are no searches for the particular keyword, so there is no need to piss me off with that...

        See, that's why I don't use it - I'm way below average

There are a massive array of excellent keyword tools out there, some free some paid.

    Some of the great tools:
    Googles Keyword Tool
SpyFu.com (Excellent Trend Analysis for Free, also paid membership)
KeywordSpy.com (Great for getting the edge over competitors)
Keyword Elite (Brad Callen's tool, very useful all around software)
    WordTracker.com

I may use any combination of these depending on that I am doing for a client or my own research and each has it's own strengths and weaknesses.
