Best Unsubscribe Page I've Ever Seen...

I just tried to unsubscribe from a daily deal site for designer apparel and accessories. I was on their list just to see how they operate.

Their unsubscribe page was simple but awesome and prevented me from unsubscribing. When you click unsubscribe in one of their emails, they don't automatically unsubscribe you like most newsletters.

Some companies don't automatically unsubscribe you, but instead give you these options: 1) stay subscribed, 2) unsubscribe. This company gave way better options. You'll see why it will significantly reduce unsubscribe requests.

Here it is the page that you see after you click unsubscribe:
________________________________________________

Email Options

How often would you like to hear from us?

(*) Always: I want it all! Send me all sales emails, giveaways and special events.

( ) Once a day: My morning isn't complete without knowing what's on sale every day.

( ) Once a week: Let me know about upcoming sales and event highlights.

( ) No emails, please. Unsubscribe me from all sales and event emails. I only want to receive
emails related to my orders.
________________________________________________

I ended up clicking once a week rather than unsubscribing. It's easy to understand why this works. Give people options on how often they want to receive your emails. Put them in control.

Sometimes people want you stuff, just not as often as you want them to have it. When people try to unsubscribe from your emails, let them choose how often to receive your emails and watch your unsubscribe rates decrease.

Excellent page to point out, Brandon. My kudo's to the person who owns that page.

Yeah that's cool. Be good if Aweber could somehow implement that with their service.

you can with most any AR service. you just need to operate multiple lists.

ie main list, daily list, weekly list. most allow you to auto unsubscribe people from other lists when they subscribe to a new list of yours.

i like the idea by the way. cool find.

Actually that is not to hard to do. Instead of the optin email people get normally send them an optin email that has lists with different frequencies. You would have 4 seperate lists in the above case, bu you wouldn't be pestering your potential clients.

Good stuff, but I think the best unsubscribe page is from Groupon.com

    You are unsubscribed

Yeah I've seen that before and thought it was cool. Daily deal companies are all about conversions, rather it is selling their deals, or reducing unsubscribe rates.

I like the idea, and it really allows you to identify buyers, potential buyers and non-buyers.

I've come across a similar page before. I don't remember whether it was an IM list or a website I frequent. But I do remember how refreshing it was to see a different unsubscribe page. Not the generic one that is provided by most autoresponders.

It did the job. It got me to remain subscribed because they allowed for less frequent mailings.

I always wondered why we don't see more of that in the IM field. Maybe people just haven't caught onto this yet.

Fantastic thread. Thanks rushindo for bringing this to our attention. I suspect there's much to be gained here. I definitely need to bone up on my AWeber technical know-how to implement these techniques.

Thanks Jamie for the Groupon unsubscribe link. That's awesome.

I love it when people have optimized pages such as this. Other honourable mentions include the "check your emails" page and the "thank you for subscribing" page!

That's an interesting way of "putting the customer in control". In reality, the advertiser is controlling the email subscribers to stay subscribed.
