I do not think it is fake either. A lot of people who are on my friends list on Facebook that I have known a long time have liked the page and are continuing to like it.

I about made a post about a week ago talking about this viral explosion but decided not to. It is interesting to watch.

Ya, tech4mommies was not a glowing review. I just found a news story about it, though. They just say it went viral. They don't seem to be tech-savvy at all. They said they just made the page as a hobby and only expected 30 to 40 fans. Perhaps they did hire someone to get them likes and had no idea how they'd actually be getting them fans. If they did that, perhaps once they got some fans by paying someone to do it for them, then it went viral naturally.

I don't know, it certainly seems weird that a new page thin on content went viral so quickly.

But here's a news story about it, they seem pretty innocent, really.

Admins of new Pages looking to establish an initial fan base should use the new “Invite Friends” link that appears on their Page. Adding a large number of admins that can all use the feature on their own friends could be an effective growth strategy for smaller Pages.

After a few minutes of investigation, I have changed my mind, lol.

I think there are some other things going on behind the scenes on this and I'm not convinced it is au natural.

Definitely a great case study to prod into and see what the real culprit is.

I have no actual proof or stats, but when you compare and analyze, it makes no sense what so ever.

And one girl hitting the road is not a good sign.

I think they are real girls regardless of one of the blog posts repeatedly calling them "girls" as if they were fake. But it does seem clear that the guy behind the scenes is the brother-in-law of one of them and obviously doesn't know how to get Whois privacy, ha ha, as the bloggers got his name from the domain registration and then noted he's an affiliate marketer. Uh oh...He's probably the mastermind behind how they got so many fans whereas the girls just don't have a clue how it's going down.

Although I guess that new Facebook feature could have played a big part? I don't know...

No they are real girls, they even posted a YouTube page. But one of them left the group and created her own "RARE" buzz that is growing at an equally rapid pace. Which is another reason I smell bull droppings!

You guys have to understand on the service it's legit, Any fan page with 1,000,000 viewers is going to TURN legit. But the rapid growth from conception to where they are at now in less than 2 weeks is not Legit.

My daughter actually mentioned this site to me yesterday. She did "Like" it thinking it would be helpful for her since she doesn't like or have the time to cook. So, that's one legitimate "like".

Fake..Fake...fake...fake... Even the news articles are fake. Have you followed the stream of wall posts... they keep repeating themselves because they are all automated.
The latest facebook software that came out in August says boasts:

Sound familiar?

I did a spot check on a dozen or so profiles. These are real profiles with lots of friends and activity. This software must be the greatest software on earth if it creates aged accounts with tons of photos and history.

It's a real fan page that went viral, people!

Yes! It actually can. You can choose any dates you want as facebook status updates from years ago, you can add as many friends and pictures as you want. However, like I said, that was the first million fans, now there are real people on there.. what a shame.

I asked my daughter about the site. She said she "liked" it earlier this week and at that time there were about 200,000 likes. Many of her friends have liked it also and many people are posting their own recipes on their walls. Apparently the site owner asked everyone to start posting all their recipes on the site, so the site will soon have lots of user generated content. Then of course, everyone will want to see their recipe "published" on the site so will visit and tell their friends. Works well and as Suzanne indicated, the mommy market is ideal.

I don't know what is so surprising about its rapid popularity. It is exactly the kind of Facebook page that would go viral. Mommies and cooking and all that domestic stuff.

It's a real topic with real people behind it and people like it. It didn't need a backup site to get traffic. Facebook can generate tons of traffic all by itself. Some of the most popular Facebook pages have been about ordinary stuff. No big IM campaign.

1,000,000 in less than two weeks. If you search for it on facebook it doesn't even come up on top, last I checked anyway...so how the heck are people finding it? They are not the first people talking about crock pot recipes and NON have had this success...so the question is, what did they do?

When somebody likes a page, it appears on their wall. Friends now see that like and then like it themselves. It doesn't have to appear on any search listing to go viral.

Getting a million real human likes in two weeks is very unlikely. If the likes were generated by a robot then there's really no trafic. At the same time, the publicity of such likes automatically creates a viral effect as more and more people will check it out and like it. It may be brilliant but not truthful and may have a negative consequence in the long run. Good reputation is very important.

  I could be wrong, by all means. But it's not like they were on some major broadcast. They were completely unknown and just "popped" out of no where.
  
  You don't just pop up a fan page one day and get this without something else going on. I'm having a really hard time believing it.
  
  It was a few years ago, but I was in on a major campaign where a site got a lot of visits - but they had been featured in a major magazine.
  
  To my knowledge there was no featuring of these people in any major media setting. And their other social media sites are not keeping up the same pace.

This has happened with youtube videos, by the way, getting millions of views in a week or two after going viral.

So it's possible, but...

These are "likes" not just views.

At first the page just had one video and was getting hundreds of thousands of likes already? And nothing particularly special about the video?

Sorry, if everyone read the blog posts investigating this, you'd see that a lot of the earlier "likes" were from profiles that seemed to exist solely to like the page.

What you're seeing now, however, IS natural viral momentum, but I do believe the system was gamed in the beginning.

If any of you have been involved with resell rights ebooks in the past (there was a classic 'set' of ebooks that did the rounds, including 'crock pot recipes') - I'm talking about eight years ago or so and if you also watched your analytics, you would know that for some unexplained reason (particularly on ebay) that keyword gets (got) a disproportionately large amount of searches.

I think they could have done something artificial to get this thing rolling. But the growth going on right now could very well be natural.

I mean if you think about it, what is probably the largest demographic on facebook? Moms. And the largest portion of the moms demographic that are on facebook, would love to stumble upon something while on facebook that saves them a little more time to spend on facebook. And what better than a crock-pot recipe to do that? Combine that with the beginning of the NFL season and you've got even more moms escaping to facebook. And thus a viral fanpage is born.

And as far as the growth rate goes, that's not indicative of something nefarious. It just looks more impressive when you can see stats updated live like you can on a fanpage. But there are a lot of people on Facebook, and so far a tenth of 1% of them have signed up to this fanpage.

Any page generating explosive growth catches my eyes. What do you think would happen if you sent a message to everyone who liked your page telling them you are going to make them an admin for 24 hours and if they click the invite the friends button in the right column and send an invite to check you page, you'll give them "Put your give away here" when 5 of their friends join? I believe there is a WSO out there with software that can do this for you. PM me if you can't find it.

I totally had the same feedback about it, that it is not fake since checking the profile, they are real people who just wanted to share their skills in Face book. We can't take away the fact that Face book, as a social networking site, is by far one of the popular sites and has more than millions of followers from it. We could safely say that Crockpot girls just went viral and reached around a million likes in a span of two weeks? Impossible it may seem but it is possible since there are more than a million or probably billions of people who are in the social networking site.
It is totally impossible at first since they are seemed "unknown" to the world then can generate a million likes in just two weeks. Well, they are no longer "unknown" today since having a million followers doesn't seem to fit the term unknown to them. As you can see, they are just simple ladies, that I think aren't that conscious of what had happen to their page as it went viral in the internet.

In April of 2011, Frito Lay received over 1,500,000 likes in 24 hours.

In Feb of 2011 Lil Wayne (the alleged singer) received over 500,000 likes in 24 hours, on a single post.

These seem like corporate orchestrations and so does this crockpot 'miracle'.

Edit: Don't know if it's corporate or not, but orchestrated, definitely.
