Ok this is just too funny. You have to see the crap people actualy post on their blogs.

Follow this google search! Each one of them have the same blog post etc. This is just crazy. Are people really that desperate?

Google

People are selling these little PLR packs which others use too and creates this mass of junk content which Google will find and probably will SAND BOX your ass.

I do not understand why people use this crap content sold by people. At least rename it and rewrite the content.

THINK PEOPLE THINK!

  • This is what the PLR sellers tell you that you are supposed to do, when you buy their product...

    But people are lazy...

On your search, it turned up 4.3 million results.

The search remade with quotes around the search query turns up 55,000 copies of the article:

      Yes indeed.

And there's also a whole industry "out there" blatantly misinforming people about what duplicate content means/signifies, and how it "works", so this isn't a trivial one for people to work out. :p

I know what you mean ... I bet you'll find some of it posted in this thread, too, soon enough, from people who just see the title and (without reading the thread at all) add their few words to the effect that "duplicate content's a bad thing and a problem".
      • [ 2 ] Thanks
    • So that means that the person who put together that little PLR pack made 55 000 sales? Bet they are smiling.

I am not condoning it but apparently there is a market for it.

    • wow 55,000 is alot
    • However, thinking for myself, I decided to click through the SERPs and found only about 15 copies of the article.

And the reason these 15 pages ranked so high for the query is because, IMO, it was an extremely long-tail search query where these documents have an exact match for the search string.

Also IMO, Google uses different criteria for different types of searched. In this case it was a very specific, very long tail phrase. I doubt these doops would appear in any 2-4 word searches.

It also appears that there's some minor word substitutions going on. I didn't click through to any articles, but about result #7 it seems the descriptions, while very similar, aren't exactly the same as those above.

  • People grossly misunderstand what duplicate content really means. They think that just because they have one specific article or blog entry posted that you can't have it anywhere else. This is incorrect.

Duplicate content strictly applies to websites that have the exact same content throughout the website. For example you blog has two identical entries.

When it comes to the same article or blog post on multiple sites it's just a matter of getting the most exposure you can out of that piece. Sure it may be a eye sore after a while but the person has really covered their bases and marketed themselves well.

    • I am not so sure I agree. You show me where you get your information from and I may think about believing that. Duplicate content is the same content on one site or other sites. It is duplicate content. simple as that!

I look forward to your reply on this.

  • That is the challenge of having the computers doing all the work, but you are absolutely right! People need to do at a minimum some title spinning.
  • Yes, duplicate content will effect SEO

    • It is also easier to believe the myth than it is to think for yourself.

The above search queries show 55,000 copies of the same article in Google... THINK FOR YOURSELF...

    • Allow me to define duplicate content this way:

"My Article" submitted to YourFavoriteDirectory Jan 2011
"My Article" submitted to YourFavoriteDirectory Feb 2011
"My Article" submitted to YourFavoriteDirectory Mar2011
"My Article" submitted to YourFavoriteDirectory Apr 2011
"My Article" submitted to YourFavoriteDirectory May 2011

"My Article" posted on MyBlog Jan 2011
"My Article" posted on MyBlog Feb 2011
"My Article" posted on MyBlog Mar 2011
"My Article" posted on MyBlog Apr 2011
"My Article" posted on MyBlog May 2011

      Does that make sense?

  • Yep - people are lazy. I also take issue when someone spins the same article a boatload of times and sticks it up on the same article site. I know you can say the same thing 10 different ways but really why not contribute better content.
  • SEO effect on duplicate content????? This is one of the biggest myths out there. Hell, the whole sandboxing itself is a myth.

Let me put it this way: Search for any given application/game/utility online. The exact same program description you find on CNET will also be found on TUCOWS, on SOFTPEDIA and 50,000 other websites. These websites dont suffer or get penalized in any way, shape or form.

And no, it has nothing to do with the fact that "Google likes them" or that "they have a high PR and therefore are unaffected." There are thousands of other, lesser known software sites that aren't penalized.

In all honesty, most "Google knowledge" out there has been born from speculation in forums and personal blogs. Sure, many theories are educated and helpful guesses--- and i admire them for that. But in the end, they're still only speculation as opposed to facts.

    • Probably sold 50 or so. Then buyers load them into those 'post your article to 1,000 sites' programs and let fly.

      Wow...

      "Duplicate content is duplicate content."

Hard to argue with that one...
  • I found a definition of duplicate content here:

Duplicate content - Webmaster Tools Help

    It says:

That means duplicate content is having same content on a same website.

    • Can you please tell us what "across domains" means if doop content only applies to the "same website"? Thanks.
  • Interesting... I've always believed that having the same content of another website posted at a later date would have some negative effect on the rankings.... However, reading the discussion on this thread made me think.

So basically, if you have 1000 PLR articles and post them all on a blog... then if you do some SEO on those posts, would you not be affected at all with your rankings just as you were publishing 100% original content?

    • My day has been made complete. Thank you for using that thing God gave YOU!

      In short yes.

You just have to out-SEO your competition.
  • I am the type of person who admits when they are wrong I am proven wrong. I admit that and after doing my own research I found that I was wrong.

    I apologize!

I learned soemthing new today which is cool as hell.

  • I'll go against the grain a bit here (except for the usual cryptic few ) but if you are buying quality PLR from a provider that attracts a quality buyer then there often isn't a need to rewrite it; well nothing more than an optimised title, decent formatting, and a well selected image or three.

Not everyone is even using the content to directly increase search engine exposure. Some use it in membership sites; others user it in their email newsletters; others turn them into products. Out of the people who do use it for on-site content aimed to achieve search engine rankings only a few will have the skills or know-how to rank for the same keywords I choose. The content isn't an issue most of the time when it comes to rankings.

Avoid providers and memberships that get syndicated through the usual pirate channels and you can have a bunch of quality content that can really add some meat to your sites. I would rather buy quality PLR then buying poorly written custom content that is probably just a rewrite of cheap PLR to begin with.
  • Duplicate content does not affect seo, it will only be less "relevant". If there are 55k copes of the same article, then obviously, if you copy pasta it to google then it will be even less relevant.

Google = First come, first served.

  • Direct Quote From Google WebMaster Central Blog:

    • Google wants to serve up unique results and does a great job of picking a version of your content to show if your sites includes duplication. If you don’t want to worry about sorting through duplication on your site, you can let us worry about it instead.
    • Duplicate content doesn’t cause your site to be penalized. If duplicate pages are detected, one version will be returned in the search results to ensure variety for searchers.
    • Duplicate content doesn’t cause your site to be placed in the supplemental index. Duplication may indirectly influence this however, if links to your pages are split among the various versions, causing lower per-page PageRank.
Pretty awesome duplicate content, ya think? Oh noes, warriorforum will have it's rankings penalized. On a serious note, thank you for this link Alexa Smith.
