How to make money from Clickbank (as affiliate, as vendor, that's different story)

The basic of making money with Clickbank is:
  • Plan everything from the beginning
  • Pick a niche
  • Go to Clickbank marketplace and choose product to promote
  • Make a promotion

The detail:

Plan everything:
First, you need to plan everything from the beginning, like do you want to create website or not, this website, it will be blog or static website. What promotion method do you want to do, etc. Don't do random actions.

Pick a niche:
Generally, the most popular niches are:
  • Internet marketing
  • Weight loss
  • Dating
But when you pick a niche, pick a niche that you like, that you have interest in it. Why? Because if you don't like the niche of the product you're promoting, soon, you'll be bored

Choose product to promote:
  • Higher gravity or lower gravity?
If you're confident about your skill (i.e, you can make your website number 1 on google for competitive keyword), choose higher gravity. Why? Because higher gravity also means that the product converts beside a lot of competitions. If you can win the competition, you'll get more sales. If you can't win the competition, choose lower gravity. But generally, don't choose product with gravity lower than 50, because product with gravity lower than 50 doesn't convert as well as product with higher gravity.
  • Choose product with $20 commission or more
  • The most important, would you buy the product if you were interested?

Make a promotion:
Methods to promote:
  • PPC
The easiest and the fastest way to make money from Clickbank. Note, PPC is not just Adwords. There are other PPC companies beside Adwords. Because these days, Adwords will reject Clickbank affiliate websites
  • SEO
Good method, but super boring and tedious
  • Buy advertising space
You can buy advertising space from other websites with the same niche. The price is vary, some websites only cost you $20/month
  • Article marketing
Doesn't work anymore since Google Panda update
  • Forum marketing
Go to forums with the same niche and promote the product there. To find those forums, use Google search. The keyword: your niche + forum, i.e weight loss forum, dating forum
  • Web 2.0
    Create articles in squidoo, hubpages
  • Video marketing
If you have skill in making video, try video marketing

That's it. If you have anything else to add, feel free to add.

Sorry, but I just cannot agree with this statement.

Personally, I promote products with gravity between 5 and 25. This flies in the face of 99.9% of all the other advice you will read, but understand that this figure is very often contrived by the vendor and doesn't necessarily mean people are selling lots of the product.

Gravity simply reflects the number of affiliates who have sold at least one copy during the preceding eight weeks, not the number of sales made. Unrealistically high gravity is nearly always associated with IM niches. Why? Because many people in IM are using their own affiliate links to purchase the product for themselves.

For anyone who is interested, I did an in-depth post on my blog in June. I'm not promoting anything, just offering (I believe), useful information, based upon more than twelve years of being a Clickbank affiliate.

Here is a link: Become A ClickBank Affiliate--Sell ClickBank Products the Right Way | Internet Marketing and Publishing

I hope it helps a few of you...

I would have thought that not many will supply one but have never really tried ..
      Terry
      Hi Terry

I always contact the vendors and ask for a review copy, and mostly, they are always happy to comply. I have a "form email" I edit to personalize and use for most requests. In it, I explain my experience and provide them with a list of my established websites they can check. This immediately establishes my credibility.

This correspondence also serves to illustrate the level of customer service behind the product. It's another benchmark to judge the product against.

If they do not supply me with a review copy, I don't bother promoting their product. Simple as that...

The major downside for me about clickbank is that the refund rates are kind of crazy.

I agree, if you promote IM products. Follow other channels and the refund rates go down dramatically.

Is there a way to know what the refund rate is for any particular product on Clickbank?

I was wondering about that, Annie, because in the blog post you refer us to in post #3 one of your pieces of advice is to find out if the refund rate is too high. ???

What about running a minor or test campaign before starting our main campaign? Because there are many occasions when a product happens to have a high rate of refunds after it passes the other qualifications and we start promoting it.

But in most cases, if it passes the other qualifications that are listed on the blog post (plus some others), chances are low that the product will have a high refund rate.

well, there is nothing stopping you from buying the product first, to make sure it lives up to its name.

Refunds are just a part of this game, there is no way to get past it. You cant please everyone!!!! That is a gimmie.:p

It really depends on the niche..

IM/make money online niche as the highest refund rates for me..

      For obvious reasons

Sorry ... don't want to start an argument about a small point, but this really isn't right at all.

Quite often the exact opposite can be true, in fact.

Some ClickBank products with gravities around 4.0 - 10.0 have seriously good conversion-rates and huge numbers of sales made by their small band of superaffiliates-in-the-know. Some products with three-figure gravities (often produced by marketers just buying one copy each through their own links - that all adds to the gravity!) have dreadfully low conversion-rates and very few sales.

Contrary to popular opinion, "gravity" in itself doesn't actually relate to either conversion-rates or numbers of sales. Explained in much more detail in this post.

Edited here to add: sorry, just noticed the link kindly provided above by AnniePot - relevant to the same point - is also excellent.

It's certainly true that some markets/niches ("MMO"/"IM-advice"/"Forex"?) do tend to have higher refund-rates, for some fairly predictable reasons!

There are various parameters by which you can search the Marketplace (click on "Advanced Search" and have a play with it).

If it helps, I have a little 10-point checklist to select suitable products to promote as an affiliate.

Article marketing does still work. You just have to write unique, quality content that provides value to the reader. Writing one article and spinning it a bunch of times, however, doesn't work.

      - free press releases also PRWEB for paid press (works well)
      - blog commenting
      - Web 2.0
      - Making your videos viral, so they spread around quicker
      - guest posting on other blogs
      - paying admins of high traffic blogs in yoru niche to post about you and your websites.

    Hey Guys ,

Promoting a high gravity clickbank product is never been easy because higher gravity products are promoting by top dogs i mean super affiliate B.S even though you will never make a penny with the product.

I have generated a whooping of $250+ last month with Banner ads not AdWords because Sometimes AdWords will become the world's worst thing any way i am promoting only medium gravity offers because there will be no more high competition and it will convert well so, i am used BuySellAds.com to Advertise with my offer and i have choose an ad space for $100/Month in a Make Money Online Niche Blog and in return i have earned $250 so that's easy and exactly Auto-pilot .

You can easly promote any offers at low price.

Choose a niche that is not very competitive so that you won't die with cutthroat competition. NPC even suggests that a gravity of 7 and up is good to start with. But yeah, returns can go crazy in clickbank.

Pick a micro-niche with low gravity, make an interesting site around a good, solid product and then rank your site in Google using some link building.

I would not advise using CLKBNKS gravity score to decide what products to promote.
the high gravities are often mobbed with competition, whereas the low ones, if they are good products, can sell well. The IM products in particular, have 'gamed' gravity scores.

One method I noticed conspiciously missing is email marketing. Email is a very powerful marketing tool. In fact, for me, article marketing along with email promotions have been the most effective methods bar none.

Some otherwise outstanding CB products may just have crappy sales pages as a reason for low gravity, and are ill-advisedly shunned. These respond especially well to email promotions to niche lists along with effective preselling articles.

Gravity is really more of a refection of it's popularity on Clickbank. If a lot of Clickbank affiliates try to sell it and make even 1 sale each it will result in a high gravity. That doesn't mean it is a good seller, in fact it may just mean it was popular on Clickbank and a lot of affiliates bought a review copy so the could make a good review website to sell it.

Me personally, I don't look at gravity at all. What I look for is a lot of juicy buyer keywords. If easy targeted traffic is available then who cares about gravity.
