Would You Rather Have Facebook Fans Or Email Subscribers?

Whilst both email list subscribers and Facebook fans can have value for your business I'm interested in some personal experiences of *which* you have found more beneficial? Whilst obviously we'd all like *both*, if you had to prioritize, which option would you pick and why?

On a small side note, I have a quick question about the various listbuilding/Wordpress plugins I see around that let people join your list just by clicking a "connect" button on Facebook - do these plugins *just* add subscribers to your list or do they *also* get a like for your page when someone clicks the button? With FB advertising so cheap and so easy at the moment I was just wondering if any of these systems would kill two birds with one stone?

Looking forward to your opinions and experiences.

Warm regards,
Richard

Personally I've had more success from my list but that's not to say I don't actively seek more fans on Facebook. I think a good combination of both is the key.

I've always heard the money is in the list. FB fans are okay, but I don't believe that's really where you will make your money.

      yes i agree.

somehow i believe you will get more out of your list than from fans.

      in the marketing world.

But other industries your fans may be the one boosting your business.
like for example MAN U i heard is selling IPO in singapore.

and before you think MAN U being the best team will have good returns think again. i heard over news all the experts are saying MAN U IPO will not sell well.
Its not a sounds investments for investors. [investors as in those normal investors who seek ROI]

the only people who buys MAN U IPO will be fans.
they just want to brag that they have a share of their favorite soccer team.

so i think in the world of internet marketing, unless you have a very strong crazy fan base that will go for anything you promote, i would say email list are better.

that is if you compare 1:1.

try marketing to 1000 email subscribers and promoting to 1000 fans.

i think email will stand out.

      any one agree?
      =)

    Hi,

Facebook Fanpage is good for your branding.

while email marketing is good for you to consistent sales...

    so doing both is good.

Email list for my everytime. Facebook (and other social media) are great for marketing but you aren't in control if these platforms decide you've broken the rules. You risk everything. I was recently chatting to the manager of a cocktail bar that had nearly 2000 fans on facebook they used to promote party nights etc too. However without warning facebook suspended the account and the facebook fans with it. The manager is trying to get this sorted but 3 weeks later no joy.

The best, according to my experience, is having Email subscribers. For example, one of our new sites has over 1000 Facebook Likes and the same website has 300+ email subscribers. Of the two, we get more visitors from the email subscribers. I think this is because Facebook is cluttered with so many 'updates' from friends other pages liked by users. Email is still the best way to promote your website or blog.

Email subscribers obviously... from personal experience, most people ignore fb group messages especially if they are in too many groups... of course you can also argue that if they are subscribed to too many email lists, they might ignore your emails too... but I believe double opted in email subscribers are more valuable because they actually made the effort to sign up for the info you're giving...

nowadays fb has changed the settings such as when you send an invite to someone to join a group, they get added to the group automatically... that sucks for the "addees"

Email subscribers, by a mile. You might want to Google "Ben Settle" and read what he has to say about emails effectiveness today. I consider him an authority on the subject.

I think there is more of a commitment made by people signing up to an email list - and therefore more likely to take action (i.e. buy something) - compared to someone who just clicks LIKE.

I like using both. It's very easy to target a niche using a fanpage, and then once you get someone to your page, make it beneficial to them to opt-in to your email list.

Once you have a subscriber/fan, you can easily convert it into a fan/subscriber.

With that said, I would prefer having an email subscriber because you're not dependant on the middle man (facebook).

Subscriber is always better than fans. You directly get in front of them much easier and it shows more compliance and personal investment than a mere click of a like.
