My parents anniversary is coming up.
We planned a huge party. I needed to get a cake. Found out the cake I want will cost around 300 bucks.
Here is what I did.
I went to Godaddy.com and looked at all expiring domains with the word cake in it.
Found a really good cake domain and bid 30 bucks.
I won the auction and took ownership.
I then contacted a bunch of cake decorators in my area offering the domain in exchange for a cake.
Within in a few hours I had a taker.
Sometimes its not about making money but saving money.

      Well I was on my way to find the joint venture section when "think outside the box" caught my eye. I don't think everyone is ready for anything this radical because most people won't think at all. Outside the box means you're an exceptional person!!

      Get someone to wear an automotive type of uniform with a name patch so the job is perceived as being professional. You don't even have to be there! Just have one uniformed worker and another person to help survey the area in case too many people start wondering what they're doing!! After the job is finished, your workers can leave a fancy calling card tied on the door handle with pretty ribbon and then you wait for the phone to ring.

      I got the idea from regional sales reps doing product demos for store owners and local distributors doing demos for auto detailers, body shops and new and used car dealers. They like the idea of adding more income without added labor cost which is unusual in the car washing and detailing business. Might as well make it very unusual in parking lots too! Flyers are so 1990's!!!

        I have been buying and selling domain names for a couple of years.
        I never really make more than a few thousand extra per year.
        After the cake success I am now thinking I will be looking for domains that would make for a good barter or exchange for a product or service rather than just straight up try to sell them.
        Maybe I should have kept this one to myself

          You don't have to worry about keeping anything to yourself because people talk, talk, talk but only about 1% or is it 2% will ever do anything. That's not because anyone is lazy like some may think. It's just that nobody does anything without motivation [a reason] and money is not a reason and it doesn't motivate people to do anything they don't like doing for very long.

          What you say, right down to your choice of words is clearly the reason why you make money. It's not what you're doing or how you do it, it's WHY you do it that makes all the difference.

          You enjoy saving money, finding domains and turning them into more value because that's more fun than just selling them. Your parents anniversary is good motivating reason to get you going but unlike most people you're already doing what you want and "a few thousand extra per year" is the result because you didn't turn it into a reason.
