Auto responder advice please?

I have a client who deals with training courses, and is being given a list of companies to contact (he deals with mandatory training for businesses), due to a lot of gov budget cuts quite a few in house training places are being shut down so my client is being handed a list of over 40k of contacts, and that is just for starters.

I have had a look at various auto responders and they are going to get seriously costly with numbers that high, I thought about just doing it through his site but I imagine thats going to chew up the bandwidth.

any one have any advice?

What about a cheaper autoresponder such as MailChimp?

@MJSEM ty for the response. I looked at them, anything over arround 20k of email per month (or 20k subscribers depending on the company you look at) and the price starts creeping in the hundreds $ per month.

Search for threads about 'autoresponders versus self-hosted solutions' (similar topics) - you will find a lot of alternate solutions, although none of them are free.

Don't try just to use a site and the related email to send out such a huge number of messages.... his/her host will shut you down!

One possible concern to consider about having your client use their own site is possible SPAM issues ... meaning it is possible that their hosting site might shut them down if they get an out of the ordinary number of SPAM complaints. If the list is not a double-optin list, you might want to have them consider consider a 3rd party service.

Here's a page that compares 3 of the most used autoresponder services and you can get an idea of monthly costs Compare Autoresponders.

Also, MailChimp is one that I have used in the past, but, their pricing band of 10-000-25,000 is $150 & 25,000 to 40,000 $240 a month ... so, at the volumes you are talking the pricing is the about the same for any of the services mentioned.

I use AutoresponderPlus and I send probably a total of 200k emails a month.

I do have my own server because at those numbers, I was clogging it up for other people, but if you have a more reasonable number, it's a great program. Easy to use, reliable, easy to add to. I have a ton of autoresponders for courses and other things and my business depends on them.

great thanx I will take a look.

I think the problem is that there is that an sales will only be annual sales (the training is mandatory safety training) and as with any list you cant gaurentee that all of the info is going to be up to date or even valid any more so I dont want to recommend that the guy spends $250 or w/e without having an idea of what the lists actually are going to be worth

unless you get someone to implement a self hosted solution that really knows what they are doing, you may never know what its worth due to a large number of deliverability issues. and those costs will be far higher than paying $250 and if the list is not worth anything, you are only out $250. if it is, you will pay for it many times over.

just a giving you more food for thought.

I've been testing out Imnica Mail for the past several months and have been quite happy with them. I still use my old Aweber account and am still happy with them too.

I'm not quite sure what the self-hosting issue is. I host my mailing program on my server. I send to lots of real people and I send a ton of emails. I don't have a problem with it. For paid subscriptions, I have them on a separate server.

I guess it depends on whether or not you expect to be sending a lot of mail and if you plan to have it profitable. Mine are newsletters, kind words mailings, sermons, samples of courses, etc. And there isn't too much problem with it.

Have you tried List Wire? It is a FREE autoresponder but I don't know if
it is suitable for your needs. It is probably worth checking out.
