Does a Permanent Redirect Transfer Link Power to the New Address?

I have a .info site that has been around for a couple years now and is in a competitive niche. I want to give it some additional authority as I try to rank it by getting a .com/net/org extension but I don't want to lose all of my backlinking power I've built so far. If I permanently redirect the old URL to the new one will my rankings suffer in the SERPs or will I be ok in that regard?

Cheers to anyone who bothers to answer!

yes - 301 redirect (page permanently moved) will pass link juice and maintain your previous work.

There's some debate whether or not it'll pass all of it, but yes it will pass most (probably all) of it. Just don't expect the new domain to assume all of the same rankings as the previous.

One test I'd like to run is if whether or not 301 redirects pass EMD love to sites they point at. I doubt it, but I'm curious enough to maybe try to test it out.

I just replaced an entire static site that's been up for 2 years with a WP site (completely different page names and structure) with no problem at all - no change in ranking - in fact, it increased.
