So I'm using this tool to monitor my keyword density:
Keyword Density Checker - Keyword Cloud
When I check my home page:
Dog Training | Dog Obedience Training | Smart Pet I find that the most dense word used on my page is dog, scoring over 10% which i have been told is very high.
I'm trying to reduce this number, but since all my posts deal with dogs, and I'm showing 10 posts on the main page, this is driving up my keyword density to "spammy" proportions.
Anybody have any idea how I can bring this down to a more normal level?

    Hi lutherlars,
I wouldn't worry about that at all.
Worry about keyword density when you're using 'long tail' keywords like:
    • secrets to dog training review
    • how to stop puppy biting
    • easiest dog to train
(These are 3 pretty good keywords by the way - nice balance of searches to competition)

If you remove the word 'dog' from the content when it occurs naturally in your writing this will make it a worse experience for the reader.

I don't think this is really a problem at all. You're doing a good job - by taking it off it will end up hurting you in the long run.

I believe you have a great site with great contents! I don't think it will be a problem.
Are you using "clickbump seo" to check your on-page seo? I think the plugin will help you as well.

not using any form of software. Thanks for the suggestions so far. I think simply lengthening my posts will also help as they are fairly short.

Hi Luther, you basically have two options here: (1) decrease the keyword count (2) Increase the non-keyword word count.

It is important that you monitor keyword density in order that it not exceed 6% (I prefer no more than 4%).

However, of all the on-page metrics, kewyword density (as long as its not too high) is the least impactful on page ranking.

Your far better served making sure your title tag, post titles and h1 headings contain your keyword phrase.

Automated tools like mine (and others) can monitor this for you without having to rely on outside programs.

Check this case study for > what it can mean to page rankings. < Hint: I took a page from > 200 to position #1 in under 2 months solely on the basis of on-page optimization with ClickBump SEO! (no backlinks).

Hello Lutherlars, Your keywords are Ok all you have to do is write normally and include you main keywords within your text. There are a couple of things I would advise to improve your on page SEO.

Have your keywords in H1 H2 and H3 tags
Keyword in Title and description (beginning)
You need to include and image with the keyword in the Alt tag
Main keyword should be bold, italic and underline
have 1 link out to a authority site

Finally use a plugin by Yoast for your on page SEO it hands down beats all others, and gives you loads of useful information as well as complete control over titles and descriptions. Just go to plugins and search Yoast it is the first one in the list. This is the first plugin I load for all my blogs, I just love it.
