Autoresponders Or Broadcasts?

Now I've seen lots of advice regarding lists, but they are generally from MMO gurus and I'm not actually in the MMO niche.

I have a few music and health niches with lists that are building up, some slowly, some fast. I follow the rules of adding 5-10 autoresponders, building up the relationship and giving out valuable information before dropping affiliate product offers.

What I don't really is what happens after that. What happens after these first 10 autoresponders run out? Do you leave them out and then they only receive broadcasts?

I'm testing out one of my lists with 30-40 autoresponders filled with valuable information and occasional offers. It's too early to see how it goes.

What is everyone's take on this? I'm tempted to just put just 10 autoresponders in there and after that broadcast to my lists once every week or two. This appears to be better for reporting, does everyone agree?

Any advice appreciated

I have just finished setting up and autoresponder of 36 messages which go on for 90 days.

I haven't done any split testing on this, so I can't say for sure which is more effective.
But what I am sure is that I'd much rather sit down for an hour or two and come up with 2-3 new messages, place them in the autoresponder and never worry about not having time for broadcasts.

Another issue that I could encounter is to have 2 launches at a time. I have set up 2 PLF-style launches over those 90 days, so if I broadcast later another launch I might just hit some users when they're already going through one launch, so that would be a waste of money and resources.

If you're in a non-MMO niche I think you're better off with an autoresponder sequence and only send broadcasts when you have a new affiliate product to promote or some interesting new information on the topic.

I understand the benefits of autoresponders but I'm just not sure about it generating enough revenue. With the improved tracking of broadcasts, getting improved and more focused results seems to be possible, although I've yet to try it. It'll be interesting to see what everyone has to say.

        Here's an idea...

When you find a broadcast that gets particularly good results, add it to your series. Unless there is some time-dependent reason for not doing so (like a product launch or limited time offer).

I'd say get them off your freebie list as soon as you can... provide quality content PLUS an offer, at the same time.

It's a good idea to train your list, so they understand they will get some great stuff for free but will have to pay for the really great stuff. Use the free stuff as a sample of what's in store for the folks who take their (insert niche) serious enough to invest in it.
