Wordpress application url/homepage??

Greetings

I'm not exactly an expert on internet marketing yet, and was hoping someone could help me.

Today I installed wordpress onto my site, and spent hours setting it all up. After I was finished, I realized i had to type "myurlname.net/wordpress" to get to the site, but if I just typed "myurlname.net", it sends me to a hostgator screen.

I stupidly decided to try to change the url name in settings so the site would show up on "myurlname.net", but alas, I jacked it up. I was so angry.. I just deleted the wordpress file and decided to start back over.

Now before I install wordpress again, can someone please explain the url thing to me? I would really appreciate any help you can give
#application #url or homepage #wordpress

Was it a manual install? If yes, the error was uploading the "wordpress" directory to your host server's root directory (most likely public_html) INSTEAD of uploading just the content of it!

When installing wordpress via Fantastico there is a field that asks you what you want to name the folder for the installation.

The field is called "Install In Directory":
    http://cdn.technostarry.com/wp-conte...-wordpress.jpg

You have to leave that BLANK to install wordpress into the root so it loads directly from the url and not a folder.

This question is extremely confusing for anyone new to Wordpress. It's the one mistake consistently made by newbies.

Normally you log into your cpanel account. Once logged in you look for FANTASTICO. Inside Fantastico there is usually Wordpress.

Fantastico is a web server tool that helps install and uninstall certain elements - like Wordpress, bulletin boards, shopping carts, etc.

Once you find Wordpress inside of fantastico you look for existing installs to see if you already have worpress installed on the particular domain. If it is already installed on the domain there would be an option to Uninstall it.

If there is NOT worpress installed on the domain there will be an option to install it.

Contact the support department of your hosting provider if you have more questions about this.

          Good luck!

  • As i guessed you haven't uploaded your wordoress on hostgator and just crated a web site on wordpress. You must download wordress from wordoress.org and upload it to your host. i manage this bu using filezilla, client which uploads your files to you host. And you should upload these files on your host directory "public_htm"

The real answer is what to do if you happen to be a newbie and the answer by Weblink is what you should do, the guy who configured my site did exactly the same thing.
