tips on where to focus my efforts please!!

Hi there warriors,

I have set up a blog on 'how to make money online' (tom-lawton.com) and was wondering what the best thing for me to do next is?

I am slowly working on traffic generation, by posting on here and doing a bit on Facebook. I have a Youtube account with a few videos nearly ready to put up and I have a few blog set up guide style pdf's i will be making available to download soon, BUT,
I dont have a great deal of spare time at the moment, about an hour a day (im a chef and this is my lunch break basically, i have tried to do bits after work but am pretty tired and this has proved not to be very productive at all) and id like to know what you would do in this small amount of time and what is the most important thing i should be focusing on? ie, generating traffic, list building, blogging, etc.

There is so much that needs to get done and I find myself doing a little bit of everything and not really achieving anything so......

what is the best way to manage your time if you only have an hour a day?

all help is appreciated folks, and i thank you in advance for your reply's,

kind regards

Tom Lawton

Truthfully, it's going to take a while to get anywhere with the limited amount of time you have to work daily. I work 10 hours a day and it feels like my projects are barely moving along!

I would focus on content first & promoting second. Your website is a lot more likely to rank well later on if you have a good amount of unique content. Once you feel like you've got plenty of good content, then it's time to go out and start getting some good backlinks and social bookmarks.

Since your time is limited you may want to divide that time between creating good content and building backlinks.

What good is traffic if you can't make it stick? You need to give your visitors a reason to stay and a reason to come back. Content plays a major role in that.

And yes, your site needs to be inviting, but there are some ugly sites that I visit and buy stuff from regularly because they always have the information I need and they make it easy to buy it.

As for backlinks - the more high quality backlinks you have pointing to your site, the more love you'll get from Google. You can find great backlink packages in the WSO section here so you don't have to spend a lot of time looking for them. It's already been researched for you.

you mention your a chef by trade. it would seem to me that you might have better luck selling something you know more about such as something chef related (which you know) vs hoe to make money online (which you seem to be less proven at)

and i am not trying to make you feel bad, but people often times get into the how to IM market without knowing how to succeed at IM. Then they wonder why they struggle. i am sure you can understand where i am coming from.

if i were you, i might take a long look at your focus and see if maybe you should take your online business efforts in a different direction.

and i hope you dont take offense, it was not meant that way. i am just saying peyton manning is a damn good football player, but he probably would not do well in the NBA. focus on what you are good at and it will be much easier to succeed.

Have you had a chance to read "The Compound Effect" ? Darren Hardy's The Compound Effect

Don't stress about time... just organize yourself, put together a plan of action around the time you do have available, and your small efforts compounded day in and day out will results in big gains over time.

Tom, I'd suggest you check out challenge.co Just started for 2011 and it's claim is that you can do it in 30 minutes a day. Since you've already started, you'll be able to skip some of the steps.

Even if you don't do everything they have planned out, you'll learn a lot about generating good content and getting backlinks.
